Oh my god, I can't believe I missed this live! K-pop Demon Hunters is KIND OF on my shit list right now. 3/9 members of Twice did the soundtrack version of Takedown you hear at the end. They're on tour at the moment. I've tickets to see them both nights in London and they've just replaced probably their BEST song on the setlist with the three members performing Takedown. Not even a version that all 9 of them can sing, they've swapped out the best group song with a subunit song (as if it's not annoying enough that nearly half the concert is solo performances). And as crappy as it is that they're taking off 6 of the members for a unit performance, for it to be Feel Special of all songs. Like, you could listen to the song and it's a good song but it's one of those that you had to be there when it was released. Mina was on hiatus to treat her anxiety. There was genuine fears that the group would lose a member. And then they put out this song about how important the fans and especially the group itself means to each of them and brought Mina and included her for the video...it's just too important to their history. I get it, Takedown is a fun song. But FEEL SPECIAL? Please give it back to me. Don't do this to me. Take any other song. Not that one TT_TT Anyway, I have a lot of thoughts and feelings on this movie. The company EJAE trained at was SM Entertainment, one of The Big Three companies (SM, JYP & YG tradionally. These days a lot of people include Hybe as well). She trained with SNSD/Girls' Generation. Who are my ults. So it's been interesting hearing some new stories pop up about their trainee days together. I am also CONVINCED that Zoe is also based on Tiffany from Girls' Generation. Maybe it's just my bias showing because Tiffany IS my bias ever since Day 1 but she was THE American Idol. Or American K-pop idol, you know what I mean. There are plenty of other idols born and/or raised in the U.S but she was for a long time the person people thought of when you asked for a Korean-American idol. Maybe Jessica, also SNSD, but I think because she had her family with her and was raised speaking mostly Korean at home, she's not as aggressively American lol whereas Tiffany, having lost her mother and being estranged from her father, didn't speak much Korean for the first few years and was very much 'Made in U.S.A', as someone much more talented than I, once described her lol. ps. Natasha, if you're looking for 'local' kpop idols, there are 3 Texans that I can think of; Mina from Twice who is from San Antonio, Chungha the soloist is from Dallas and Yoon Mirae/Tasha (she's also a Natasha!) idk whether Mirae's actually lived much in Texas but her father is an African-American man from Fort Hood so that's the connection! Also, to go back to the actual movie, I don't think it's a coincidence that we're specifically told that Jinu was a demon for 400 years. Korea went through multiple horrific famines at the time due to both Japanese occupation and also multiple natural disasters (floods, earthquakes, little ice age etc.). Not the worst famines in Korea's history. I know in the 1800s, there was a famine which killed about 25% of the entire population but I think it's not a coincidence that he comes from the time of the Joseon dynasty and gave his soul to cosy up to the elite, possibly imperialists. And in death, he essentially does the same. Even if I do think he's not actually dead dead. His soul 100% went into Rumi's weapon at the end and I think there's a very good possibilty he'll be back in the next movie if they don't go the prequel route.
