Overall I am all for picking shows season by season from here on out. On one hand Parks and recreation is way up there on the list of shows I want to see your reaction to so I am a touch disappointed that it's not going to be a permanent fixture in the schedule from here on. On the other hand it would be nice to see you get tastes of more variety of shows on a season by season basis. That and it is quite a bit of a feel bad seeing a show one doesn't particularly care for eat up a permanent spot for months upon months at a time. I do hope for this case though you also do the first 6 episodes of the second season of Parks and Rec that way you will have done a solid first dozen episodes of both of this recent poll's winners and you (as well as any other new viewers) get a more solid feel for what that show is. I'd also like to you do the polls as such where the show that just won the poll has to sit the next poll out then come back in the following poll. That way we guarantee seeing a season of something different. Ultimately I am hyped for the season by season idea.

I lean towards supporting season-by-season. I would definitely much prefer it for shows that are much more about its episode-to-episode payoff than any season or series long narrative. (30 Rock is a great example. I'd kinda put Parks and Rec in that same boat, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt... even though it's not a binary, there's gray area there.) Although for Parks and Rec it'd be funny to watch only the first season then put it aside for several months, given how it didn't really get good until season 2. I didn't want it to win over even a similar type of show (I'd've gone for BNN), but I want to be fair: the writers very clearly figured something out between seasons 1 and 2 and the show changed (improved) in a pretty big way in season 2 and beyond. Also: season-by-season would work wonderfully, IMO, for: Westworld, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Heroes... ie I think the first seasons of those shows are good but you don't really need to keep watching past that.

This might be my dumbest suggestion:) but seeing as it was a tie and it's a 1/2 hour show of which you do 2 episodes per week why don't you do one of each each week?

Is not dumb at all, is just not enough content for YT since I also upload an edited version there

first arrested development now parks & rec just speedrunning through some of my favorite sitcoms

I am ok with picking shows by season. Some shows have a lot of seasons and it would be nice to be able to break things up a bit if needed.

I missed the whole discussion about the two front-runner shows but apparently I’m in the minority by liking both—not evenly though! Parks & Rec is a work place sitcom, one of the best but still a familiar kind of show. BoJack Horseman on the other hand is something truly special and original, which also makes it more divisive. I’m sure you’ll like the former but I’m really looking forward to seeing your reaction to the latter.

Steve

Thanks. I'd forgotten how awkward the first season was. It's still good, but it turns into something special later.

Robert

Yes, i was hoping this would win.

Imagine people told you not to watch the 4-5 season of Rick and Morty. A lot of people didn't like those two seasons, but is that really a reason not to watch it? I would say, don't rely all too much on the opinions of other people. Another example, people would 100% have voted not to watch Season 4 of Community. Because the fans hate that season. Do you think it would have been better not to watch that season?! To me that just doesn't make sense. You don't know if you like it or not, until you watched it, and if you are going to start something, why not finish it?! Many people would have told you to stop watching Archer after season 6-7. Some would have told you to skip Season 5. It only leads to unfinished reactions, because people have no patience and since they already saw it, they don't want you to waste their time with Seasons they don't enjoy. Leaving everyone else with unfinished reactions, or missing some of their favorite episodes/seasons because some haters on patreon didn't enjoy it.

My honest opinion on going season by season is that I don't know how to feel. I think there's an upside to the variety that will come with that format. But I also think there's some benefits to the consistency of knowing, for instance, that every week there will be 2 Always Sunny Episodes, and that there isn't going to be a month or two or three without any. For your sake, not mine, my one concern is that people searching out a reaction to their favorite show might be more apt to stick with you, or subscribe to your patreon, if they know youre going to stick with that show, and the season by season polls, makes that a little less clear. But as I see it, I'm not the one who is recording and editing, and putting the videos out there for the world to see. I'm the one ploppig my laptop up on the kitchen counter and cooking dinner, while watching a reaction video. So I'm along for the ride, and I'm sure you'll have plenty of other people far more vocal than me about whether this was the greatest decision ever made, or the worst decision in the history of the world. (I'm pretty sure it will be neither.)

The way I see it is Parks and Rec is a great comedy. Bojack Horseman is a great show, that you could call a comedy. P&R is great at making you laugh, and enjoying yourself. With Bojack you'll laugh and enjoy yourself at times, but that's just part of it. There's a lot more going on. It's like there are great horror movies, as in movies that will keep you on the the edge of your seat and scare you. That's what they set out to do, and they do it well. And then there are great films, that are horror. They will have you on edge and scare you, but the horror is a means to greater end.

It is one thing if the show is just a few seasons but some are 10+ and take years to get through. If you are watching a show as it is being made you end up taking breaks between seasons so I don't see it as being any different if we were to alternate between two shows for instance. I am not saying to skip anything. I think every episode of a show should be watched once started. Even if there are bad shows or seasons. I want to see complete reactions to something. That would be a concern about this format is if people voted away from a show but never came back to it.

Daniel M

Agreed. Variety is good, especially if some shows take years to get through all their seasons. However there is a concern about patrons voting away from a show and never coming back to finish it. On one hand it would suck to have incomplete reactions to a show, but on the other perhaps that means the makeup of the patrons have changed and they are no longer interested in that show. For instance, lets say we voted for a show that has 20 seasons. A few seasons in there is a lot of turnover in patrons and the majority no longer are interested in that show, however Ana is locked in to reacting to all 20 seasons. With voting by seasons that could be changed to match what the patrons want. I think both formats have their problems so I am honestly not sure which is best.

I do worry that you're going to get more shows that you just don't get finished now. I don't think there's much point in watching Bojack or The Good Place, for example, if you don't watch the whole thing.

Eric

ALTHOUGH... Heroes, Westworld? I'd say just watch season 1. Supernatural? I'd definitely say just watch the first 5 seasons. Batman: The Animated Series and X-Men: The Animated Series? Just the first 3. Because sometimes it just lasts too long and stops having a story, just ends up continuing due to inertia rather than any creative spark. And/or a new showrunner takes over, an entirely new writers room, something that makes it an entirely different show despite having the same title. The Mentalist kind of did that after Jane finally met Red John. (Which was then ret-conned so that we could get a much much worse storyline where a secretive organization had all their members get identifying tattoos, very secret.)
