Foreshadowing in earlier episodes I picked up this time *Beatrice to Hollyhock* “It’s you, you’re back.” “Henrietta, you’re unfit to be a parent” “Where’s the girl?/Oh yes I took her didn’t I? Where did I put her?” Beatrice actually realizes that she isn’t in Michigan when Bojack asks her if she can taste the ice cream. Remember her mother told her she couldn’t have ice cream because it would make her gain weight, so she could have a lemon wedge with sugar on it. But she was able to have ice cream after her mom got lobotimized and stopped caring, after her brother died, her brother who Bojack said was there playing the piano. She couldn’t be having ice cream if he was there Remember Todd accidentally modeled his look and it blew up? That’s why everyone in the diner was dressed like him 😂

That final scene in "Time's Arrow" especially hits really hard when you've had a parent who went through dementia/Alzheimer's disease the last bit of their lives. Anyone who has had a parent who had dementia/AD has had to come to the conclusion that it's pointless to keep fighting them on when it is and/or where they are. For me, it was dealing with the fact that when my mother said she wanted to go home, she wasn't talking about the retirement community she lived at in her final years or the house that I grew up in but my grandparents' home (all in a suburb near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the US); and that while it was 2014 to me and my surviving sibling, to her it was 1953, and she asked us (probably total strangers to her by then) if her sister was getting a ride to a skating pond that no longer existed. At first, you just wanna say "no Mom, you live here at (the retirement community), I'm (my name), your son and Aunt (my aunt's name) can't skate at 74 anymore!" But then you start to realize that it's pointless to keep arguing about it when the physiology of their brain has dramatically changed, and it is all around a better option to just go with it if, for nothing else, than to avoid any unwanted stress for everyone. So when this episode aired almost ten years ago, I spent a good five minutes after the episode sobbing; because it really hit close to home for me.
