I find myself anticipating future episodes easier now that the episode count each season is lower. I can't wait.

I agree that the Shawshank part of the thanksgiving episode fell pretty flat, but credit where credit is due, the part with Jeff and his father worked really well, which still makes it one of the better season 4 episodes in my book. I honestly did not expect the new writers to be able to pull off such a crucial character moment after 3 seasons of buildup in a remotely satisfying way.

I really don't feel like the Dean acts any different at all. In season 3 there was literally an entire episode of the Dean blackmailing Jeff in to going on a date with him at the mall. He's always been creepy it's just funny. The first episode is really all about Jeff. I never really cared at all about the side storyline with the others. I don't think the premise for them was all that interesting.
