Freeze response or even the wrong response does not make you guilty of anything.

Here's some trivia regarding the whole argument of season 2:

It was born from two ideas. One was that I thought "there's no antagonist" while working on S1 and I started creating the idea of Eiji. The other was a personal experience of mine. Years ago I was travelling to Japan Expo in Paris and first I had to take a ship. I was travelling alone and I had my own room, and one of the workers from the ship, after checking my room ticket, started telling me "that I'd be bored alone, that he could keep me company". The whole thing was so surreal that I smiled and politely told him "no, thanks, I'm going to sleep". The guy insisted (even in front of other passengers and double-checking my room number) and I kept telling him "no" with a smile on my face. Then I barricared myself in my room with over 20kg of BL doujinshis right in front of the door because I was terrified the guy would appear in the middle of the night and come into my room (they do have master keys they can open every door with).

Ever since I've tortured myself with these thoughts: why did I smile to the guy to politely decline his offer when I could have glared at him and show him what he was doing was horrible? Why didn't I write down a complain note to the company so that he would be fired for harassing customers? I didn't know how to react that time, everything was new and confusing for me and I reacted in the way I have learned: be kind, be polite.

Some years later I heard news on the TV that a worker from a ship (a different ship in Spain) was found abusing one of the passengers (an underage girl). It made me sick to think "what if it's the same guy? What if I could have avoided this by writing that complaint letter I never wrote?". I will never know if it was the same guy or not. It wasn't the same ship, but that doesn't mean anything (in fact, I don't think I've seen this guy the other times I've travelled by ship, so either he was fired or he was moved somewhere else).

All this is related to the story because I made Izumi go through hell over the fact "he didn't have the best response when somebody did something wrong", and that's what truly tortured him over S2. But I also wanted to tell Izumi, myself and all the other people out there who went through such a situation that it's ok. If I can understand Izumi for freezing, then I can also forgive myself for what happened. We tend to judge ourselves more harshly than we judge others.

Sorry for the wall of text ;;;;;;

Siento muchísimo la experiencia horrible que pasaste. Canalizarlo así hacia unos personajes sanos y una historia que enseña sobre esos valores es, creo, una preciosa manera de hacer del mundo algo mejor

"Do you think I wanted to die?" That face expression! Hahaha! It's funny, and the same time a good comparison with the situation that Izumi has been through.

Demian's expressions here are the best. 😂♥️ I'm sorry for your experience. I don't think freezing and doing nothing is the wrong response. I took it as him being so shocked that he didn't know what to do. I've actually been caught in a similar situation and I reacted the same as Izumi. My mind just went completely blank. I didn't stop it because I couldn't get my head around what just happened. But I appreciate your thought process and I love the way Demian supports Izumi. ♥️

Thank you for this message. As someone who went through a pretty bad experience, I had these kind of thoughts, that it was my fault, that i didn't reacted how i was supposed to react, these kind of messages in stories i read mean a lot to me.

love this. i always freeze when i’m under pressure and i’ve beat myself up for not reacting in the best way, or at all. but over time, i’ve realized that if i give myself a minute or two, i can deal with a sudden situation just as well as anyone else. needing time to process before you react is never a bad thing.

The more I read the more I love them. Damien is amazing you can see the love between them both. No one is perfect and I'm glad they both understand that and try to overcome together.

To me, the ‘wall of text’ was just as beautiful as your art. Thank you for opening up, being vulnerable, and using your art to share reassurance and bring some peace to far more of your readers than you might realize (I think a great many of us can relate, whether we remember those moments readily or not).

It's so difficult when we go through a horrible situation and we are blaming ourselves for what we could have done differently… Thank you for sharing your personal story and for making this a teaching for so many hearts and minds tortured by the same kind of pain. With each passing day I'm more in love with the story of these two dreamers and it's no exaggeration to say that every day I update the patreon website hoping for more. Thank you and congrats! 💕

That is a true statement, we freeze and don’t immediately react. I’m glad that you are able to take the experience and reflect on it! As always beautiful artwork and lovely couple! Thank you for sharing! ❤️❤️
