The concept of users with their "awakened" fruit was mentioned before in impel down, although obviously at this point it is difficult for anyone to remember it. On Crunchyroll it is in chapter 447, at minute 13:00. In case you want to check it.

Man that IT'S JESUS deestroyed me, love you guys 🤣

Josep Guilaña

BTW you know what's Funny awakening was already mentioned by Crocodile in Impel Down.

Ciego

Prez, i think you are thinking of Kabuki, And for the bazooka thing the only thing that comes to mind is the little girl from Fate/Stay Night saying berserker.

Cloud Kitsune

While I personally don't like the design of Gear Four, I really do like the fact that it looks like Nightmare Luffy and really brings out Monkey D. Dragon's features in him.

Nite Owl

Don’t forget guys, Jimbei mentioned at the end of the Fishman Island arc that the Blackbeard Pirates hunt down Devil Fruit eaters and have found a way to steal their fruits upon killing them.

soniq

a popular theory is that when akainu and akoji fought they awakened there devil fruits and thats why half of punk hazard is fire and ice because it was originally a normal island

soulieproud

btw Gear 4 IS inspired by the Buddhist guardian entity known as the Nio Statue In the SBS(the column where Eiichiro Oda answers fan queries), he explains that Luffy intends to protect things important to him, and this is where the inspiration comes from, because Nio is like a wrathful and muscular guardian of the Buddha You can check out this image and compare Gear 4 with Nio if you want: https://imgur.com/a/EEqNSMF

I never really thought about it until now but I think the steam coming out of Gear Fourth's body could be a representation of his Haki?

Watching this on Easter and seeing Jesus return, made me laugh even harder with you two at [4:34] 😂
