Nick

welp rip the straw hat pirates had a good run, next anime reaction?

PEAK WILL WATCH AFTER WORK

GruntZ

I kind of like the fan translation I watched of this episode when it was released better. Instead of "suffered a complete collapse" it was "was completely and utterly defeated".

And they say one piece is too long? Only 405 episodes lol

soulieproud

the amount of mental pain Luffy took this episode bro... knowing his character, this really really hurts

soulieproud

Also 406-407 are fillers, just so you know And yeah, this feeling of going into the unknown after the episode 405... it's something

It’s crazy to think that this episode aired in 2009, almost 15 years ago. I remember one piece fans were going crazy when this episode dropped. Peak Fiction!

You have no idea how agonising 3 weeks waiting time was because those filler episodes. But manga bros suffered more becauce Oda did take 1-2 month break.

Man, even after rewatching the Luffy crying scene for like the 100th time i still cry....Luffy who's always cheerful and optimistic has finally felt the feeling of defeat, and it's so heartbreaking.. Idk if you guys remember this but back in Thriller Park Moriah actually warned Luffy about the New World, saying that " You gonna lose them all (the crew)" and look at what just happened :').... we didn't even get to the New World, so imagine how terrifying the New World could be.... it's a whole new level...

No, Oda took no break after this. The next chapter came out the next week. You are confusing it with a different part of the story.

Kurri

This entire arc, aswell as the end... I dont know what to say its genuinely so perfect. ALSO THESE NEXT 3 ARCS ARE SO PEAK UR NOT READY

Eastie

Adding to your final thoughts on this chapter.... Luffy was responsible for Kizaru and Pacifista being there because of his own actions of punching the admirals. May have been cool and a good move that time of the arc, but whatever happened later was the direct result of that one action.

Cloud Kitsune

This whole moment had to be tragic for the Straw Hat Crew. We saw Sanji breaking down after Zoro and Usopp got taken in front of him, and Nami and Robin's expressions of horror, that Luffy had to witness... Talk about traumatic.

One of them is my top 1 (maybe 2) arc of all one piece so DEFINITELY NOT READY

Calling it a collapse feels to me like they screwed up when they should've won, so yeah calling it a utter defeat would have been better considering they had no chance of winning

Mrs.Portgas

yes, but it's a part of a saga, like the water 7 saga is made up of Water 7 and Enies Lobby arcs

What I always liked about it though: Luffy immediately knows and somewhat apologizes to the crew that an admiral will now show up. It wasn't a situation where he didn't consider the consequences (even if he maybe didn’t fully grasp the full severity), but he made a deliberate choice that he rather risks an admiral coming than idly stand by what is happening. It's maybe still a bit naive in a way and with how things ultimately turn out for the worst but I think it's an important distinction that he chooses to do it knowing the potential danger it brings.
