Yo again guys, I just wanted to quickly drop in and update you all since we're only ~2 days out from the month's end (and from the third chapter being done).

While we weren't able to finish everything prior to the short trip that I'd been planning for some months (I was away from the 23rd - 28th) as I'd hoped... I am now home, well-rested, and in the process of finishing/wrapping this thing up. I'm hoping to be done with it in the next 24-48 hours. For further context, I'll detail where we are below.

All of the renders and animations are 100% done (and delivered). ✔️The final-draft of the script is 100% done. ✔️The code is currently about 95% done.Dev testing is currently under-way.

This leaves only a few minor things: playtesting, compiling the walkthrough, porting the game to Android, and coding the last remaining few scenes of the chapter. This may sound like a lot, but it's really not. The majority of the next day or two will likely just be used for testing, polishing, and communicating with testers... and the very moment that's done we will post the game.

Which leads me to the next point: if you'd like to test the chapter, we are allowing this for those that request it, but to ensure Patrons get this thing before anyone else we're distributing test versions in a sort of priority queue, so I can't guarantee that everyone will have the chance before the update comes out. This is just a precaution which allows us to monitor who is testing what in case of any leaks. If you're interested, feel free to send me a PM and I'll try my best to respond as soon as possible.

That's all for now! Getting right back to it so I can get this thing in your hands.

Love you guys!

Looking forward! 😘

No way man

I'm glad you had a good vacation! Looking forward to the update!

Pax

Great update and looking forward to more Radiant time!

Dark Pink

I am interested in the trial update

Dubsington

I always get worried when developers refer to testing & debugging as "minor things"

Odell_3328

Would be more than happy to test it out!!

Bigwyte

Are you able to give a semi accurate update schedule for the game yet? I'm not one of those people that constantly throws a fit about it I'm just excited and curious about what your plans are.

Dark Pink

I very much agree with you

RK Studios

Almost ready, guys! Sorry that it has taken an extra couple of days to get through the final testing and polishing-- it's a bit bigger (code wise) due to pathing and things like that than we're used to. I have about 10-12 hours of work left and then we're done! Appreciate you all.

Da Salty One

Are you gonna drop as soon as its done because that is like 12am- 2am or just drop it some time during the day 2morrow

Tom

Edgar 10-12 hours of work takes longer than 10-12 hours of real time, he cant work nonstop 😂

Da Salty One

Touche but a man can dream with how long we have had to wait 😂

Ricky DJ Moore II

Not sure how much use I'll be in beta testing, but I can't wait for Chapter 3 to come out.

Anton

Soo??

Key

i only speak for myself. I'm looking forward to the game too, but don't let everyone rush you, do it calmly and properly :) Will be a good new part for sure

Caryland

Rushing is not the problem. It was the same thing with the last update. Bad and misleading communication. You have a whole process to make sure your renders and scripts and everything else are done. Well when you get to the point where you feel your getting close and say - 10 to 12 hours of work 2 days ago - and still no release. What you should have done was given yourself more time then you needed to finish. Both updates have taken a while, which is why people are antsy for it, but at the end putting out bad or misleading information as to when its gonna release just has a bad look to it.

RK Studios

It's just hard to predict how long everything will take in these late stages of development, especially when running on minimal sleep which affects my ability to judge/guesstimate. For example, testing Ch2 took nearly *half* the amount of time that testing Ch3 has taken due to the sheer amount of branching and different outcomes I hadn't quite considered the scope of. In other words I was basing my estimate of how long this stage would take on Ch2: which is why my estimate was off by a couple of days. Another variable to consider is that we're being more careful about leaks this time around because someone leaked the last chapter in under 5 minutes when we uploaded it. Rest assured, we are not *trying* to mislead you/wouldn't do that on purpose. Please consider that it's a tough job -- and communicating timeframes *properly* isn't always that easy! Anyway, the game is in the hands of testers and soon to be in the hands of patrons as well.

RK Studios

The game *is* in the hands of testers. If you DMed me asking to test it, please note I'm making my way down the list and haven't forgotten about you. Also, since some of you may be wondering why it's taking a little longer than I initially said: I was basing my guesstimate on how long testing took for Ch2... however due to the sheer amount of choices and varying outcomes which I hadn't quite considered the scope of, it indeed has taken an extra 48 hours or so than I originally anticipated. Needless to say it doesn't benefit me at all to "stall" or not give it to you right away, so bear with us and it'll be in your hands ASAP. I'm not the type of dev to just push an update out to meet a deadline unless I'm 100% sure it's ready/going to be a smooth ride for you all.

Caryland

No I understand. That's why I'm saying you should take more time! Like if you figure you have 2 days till you'll be done, give yourself 5. That way you can get proper sleep, finish it the way you want and not give your supporters mixed messages. That's all I meant.

Jinx Defusing

OK so... I'm timeblind. so I am late to everything. I have been late to like every job interview in the last couple of years (it's been a lot of interviews, unortunately. But, believe it or not, I have never done an interview that didn't result in receiving a job offer). I have missed my first day of work at the last 3 jobs I had (thank god my qualifications kick serious ass... I may be totally unprofessional, but I am more competent than the majority of the people in my field). And I can't meet a deadline to save my life (hence, the reason I am always having to find a new job. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if I am the best at what I do. I have to deliver my best at the right time, or it aint worth shit). I have been given advice to double or triple my time estimates. And if I beat my time estimate, then that can only be a good thing. That makes sense. But.. At what point do I stop increasing my time estimate? Let's say I think something will take me 1 day to finish. I decide to double my time estimate. And now, my new estimate is 2 days. But wait.. I'm supposed to double my time estimates... does that mean I should say 4 days? Do I only increase my original estimate? What if my original estimate is way the fuck off? I won't really know until it's too late. And so that's when I found out. When it's too late. I have literally never been successful in giving myself more time than I need. I don't know how much time I need. So how on earth would I know if I am giving myself more than what I need? I can always say, "oh yeah.. so this will take me like 3 years". But that's not helpful. Obviously. I don't mean to be combative or cheeky. I am dead serious when I say I just don't understand how to do what you are suggesting.

RK Studios

Haha. Believe it or not Jinx Defusing I am extremely punctual... normally. When I was working normal/regular jobs -- I was always that guy that was 5 minutes early for every shift or 30 minutes early for interviews. I always made sure to clock out right on the dot/not work accidental overtime and meet my required deadlines. Unfortunately, however, that punctuality does not translate to game development, as coding/testing/writing is a completely different animal. xD Simply put, it's EXTREMELY hard (for me, not for all devs) to guess when I'm going to be done with something. I made the same mistake for Ch2 and Ch3 of Polarity, and I made it when I told you guys 12-24 hours left before the release of Radiant Ch3. That said, I've been slowly working on improving that/trying to communicate better which is why I never announced a specific or concrete release date for this. I always try to make sure I give myself extra time, and I've slowly been increasing that amount accordingly. Funnily enough, yesterday when I said testing should take another 12-24 hours I actually thought I had maybe another 8 hours or so left. Goes to show how bad I am at this. This is typically why I try to avoid announcing anything at all or giving a timeframe: but then you cross over into the "no communication" territory. It's a lose lose, lol. And Caryland, don't worry I know what you're saying. It's actually solid advice and I appreciate it. I think later on I'll make a post detailing just how bad I am at this so people are prepared x)

I have 2 cents here, in the spirit of being helpful. I've been a lead dev at a large national insurance company for 6 years. At first I was told to double or triple my estimates too. Like Jinx said, that's still hard. It depends on your original estimate being close. Sometimes its not, and you wind up still missing the mark. Estimates are HARD with dev work. Look at all the huge AAA games getting delayed here recently. Quickly I found that release dates work better in "windows". Which you technically did do originally, by saying 10-12 hours. (And yes, people see that as an announcement of a release date whether you called it that or not). But those units are too small. You can't do a task (ch3) that takes months, and then guess when you'll be done within 2 hours. No one can, it's near impossible. My personal strategy is to make the initial guesstimate. Hmmm I think 10 hours for this. Up it to about 16 because things happen. That's 2 work days... Then convert THAT into a time window using a *larger unit*. If my boss wanted the above task done, I would tell him I'll have it ready "this week". If I'm done early, great! I look good! If not, he's still happy! I look fine! And if I realize that I'm going to miss it, notifying the stakeholder right away is important. That's where the "no-communication" thing comes in. Communicate with me all month if you want, but if you miss the date and then go silent, I'm antsy. If you'd said 2 days ago "it'll be ready within the next week"... that's still great news, gives us something to look forward to, but you also make sure you give yourself enough time. Your particular Patreons are likely the more patient people who are ok with a longer wait for higher quality. Stating "this week" vs "10-12 hours" won't lose those people. Missing whichever of those you stated... that's what will. To reiterate, I know this is hard and I've fallen into the same traps. Wanted to share the final answer I came to.

Jinx Defusing

Awesome thank you so much. This will help me a great deal with my day job (lots of 40+ page reports for health insurance companies from hell). Especially the part about communication. And this will also help me with my side hustle (audio engineering), since that involves tasks that could take anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of days to complete. There is no way to predict how long it will take until I start working on the damn project. However, no one wants to hire you unless you can make some sort of guarantee. It relieves some pressure knowing that it's usually acceptable to provide an estimated window of time that they can expect the task to be done. Wow... I would have never thought that engaging in this depraved hobby/ obsesssion over three little girls would help me contact some useful career advice.

The post says the game is available for testing upon request, but the most recent post made today, July 5th, says the first release of the game is only available to those on $50 or more a month subscriptions to your patreon. So do Alpha Testers have to pay out half a C note? And when can we expect Chapter 3 to be officially available to the rest of your patrons?
