While Brooklyn is a skilled photographer who loves her job (setting aside all the nerves), I think we can all agree that she does just as well in front of a camera and would make a great model!

I hope everyone had a Happy New Year. Thank you all so much for what you've done for us, and we can't wait to release Chapter 4, which we've progressed quite a bit. If all goes to plan, the wait shouldn't be too much longer.

While I can't give specific details just yet, I can tell you this year is going to be a banger for both patrons and players. This, I can promise!

Anyway, don't let me keep you. Enjoy your weekends, and remember to treat yourselves.

Love,

SirD.

Brooklyn is great. I really like her storyline. Also her daughter is the cutest thing. I would love to see them meet the triplets. I can't wait for the new update. You all are doing amazing with this story.

Timo P

It has been already been too long. For future updates may I suggest smaller update. A LOT smaller update.

Timo P

I thought that was that russian woman, but you are right, that is the one with the kid. Kid was funny.

Kris Essler

Yeah it's been a bit since the update. I'm sure the next one is going to be good. I've been messing around with other games, some are okay. There are a lot of terrible ones out there.

Kris Essler

The Russian lady had the child that he accidentally killed. She's a really good character as well.

Timo, I saw your other comments and responded to you under the public post (which I hope you'll read). There are many who would disagree that we should shorten the updates just to get them out faster: a lot of people prefer longer, less frequent over shorter, more frequent... especially when it means getting full chapters. As I've said from the very start, the time between updates will vary depending on the size of each update. We don't plan to put a limit or deadline on ourselves because we'd like to stay true to the written story, and release the game in full chapters, not split chapters. That said you don't have to pledge every month in between said updates. I'd much prefer that you only pledge the amount you feel comfortable with or think we deserve. The content we post here isn't going anywhere, and all will be viewable even if you unsubscribe then come back at a later date. While I understand you are unhappy with the wait, there's no need to keep repeatedly commenting about it, as unfortunately we can't wave a wand and be done with the chapter (as much as we'd like to be) and no amount of criticism can change that. If it helps, I went into great detail explaining why the updates take a while in an earlier devlog. You can find it here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/devlog-2-common-53515943 Hopefully you can understand that working on these games takes time for a reason. This culture of skepticism and impatience when it comes to lewd game devs is something I completely understand... but have I ever let you guys down once after releasing an update? Because I don't think I have. Every single one of them has been extremely good and well received, and I hope to keep it that way.

Timo P

Well, I hope it too, but your words are not enough. See what this long wait between updates is doing to your patron count and you see I'm right. You are losing them even now when update is close to release. Make the update interval shorter. After release I expect your patron count to crash. You might not be able to keep up working on this without taking another job, and that is bad, really bad.

What you just witnessed is the reprocessing that occurs at the beginning of each month. Patreon automatically attempts to charge cards (on the 1st), and many of them decline (especially after the holidays when people are spending a lot more than normal), which automatically causes their pledge to drop. This is perfectly normal and something that happens at the beginning of each month. This isn't even the first time we've dropped to 950-something between updates. It goes back up throughout the month when people sort their cards out, and of course we see a spike when we release an update. I'm not saying the number wouldn't be higher if we released smaller and more frequent updates, because it would. A large subset of people seem to respond better to that than the alternative. But I am saying I wouldn't let it alarm you, and I think it shows that Alorth and I are in this for more than just making a quick buck, because if we weren't we could easily just do smaller updates and see the number steadily go up. We care more about giving subscribers a quality game and decent sized updates than our own income, and I do believe this is why people always come back.

Timo P

Lets see if they do come back. You were at 1500, remember. That's one third gone. I for one am feeling that I'm being scammed, paying for nothing and will cancel my pledge for next six months unless the update is freaking massive. Not having any indication where the development is going feels like there isn't any development. "Too much longer" means what? Couple of more months? I hope not. I would like to see Maddies expression with her vibrating pants turning on.

I feel like we're chatting in circles a bit here. Yes, we reached 1,500 patrons after the release of CH3. That was more or less exactly what we assumed would happen, much like I assumed that CH4's larger size (among other things) slowing us down a bit would mean we'd see a substantial loss of subscribers in between updates. Neither of these things came as a surprise to us. Yes... we could've taken measures to avoid the loss.... but for us this isn't just about money. We love making the games and care about the quality of the updates we release more than their monetary value, and it is for this reason that we don't just cut chapters in half and release them as soon as possible to quell outrage. I'm sorry if you feel like you're being scammed, but I have repeatedly told everyone that the time between updates will vary and sometimes be long, I have repeatedly asked people to only pledge if they feel we deserve it, to only pledge the exact amount they think we've earned... I've even asked people to stop supporting us and just come back when we release the update if they believe we are taking too long. Outside of this, there's not a whole lot more I could do other than offer to refund some of your pledge dollars (Patreon lets us refund 3 months). Pledging to us is completely voluntary, and I certainly don't recommend continuing to do so if you feel like you're being scammed. You may not believe me but I just want you and the others to be happy, bro, and to enjoy the games we create.

Timo P

That last one is my point, with this long wait big bunch of us are not happy. I would even say vast majority of us are not happy, but some of us are just more patient than I am. See you again when you release the update.

RK Studios

I don't think anyone is happy to have to wait for something they like to be created. I play the games too, just like you, and it's not fun to have to wait for updates from my favorites (most of which, take 6+ months to release updates, mind you). But this is a personal choice: I'm the one who decided to play the games now rather than later, so I don't fault devs for simply not creating as fast as I'd like them to, or for not releasing their games in increments I personally would be happy with. Which is sort of my point. Such is the double-edged sword that is early-access gaming. By releasing them in early-access, it allows people to play the game episodically and the moment something is finished. But the game still has to be created from start to finish, which is something that takes time and a great deal of effort... countless days of hours upon hours of work. Especially for something huge like Radiant (which will be a minimum of 30 chapters). I want to make something very clear: we are not forcing you to play it early, and we're certainly not forcing anyone to support or subscribe to us especially if they're not happy. All we are asking that people understand that releasing the game in chapters is how we've chosen to create this... and it's for good reasons. This is something you should consider/ask yourself: what good would releasing half a chapter now and the other half later do, when you'd just end up playing for 20 minutes and ultimately be left wanting for more/unsatisfied? You're seeking short-term gratification over long-term fulfillment. By releasing in full chapters, we're at least giving you something that has a clear beginning, midpoint, and ending. Something that you can take your time and playthrough for a couple hours, or even split over the course of a day or two if you take your time playing like me. The fact of the matter is, unless you understand that we can't just wave a wand and release a game that will be close to 40 hours long when it's finished being created, I don't think you're going to be happy with us if you just sit around waiting rather than allowing us to do what we do, then come back later. And as much as we'd like to, we can't please everyone. Maybe you're right that the majority of people would be happier if we did this, but I don't think the game would be met with anywhere near the level of praise and success its seen if I based my decisions on what the majority wants... as doing so would mean reducing the quality of the updates and just throwing something out as fast as I'm able. You don't seem to understand the implications of this, as if I did... you wouldn't be playing the same game. You'd instead be playing a watered down, half-assed version of Radiant.

DiamondHands

It's been 6 months since the last release. That may seem like a long time, but have you ever tried to develop a game/visual novel? I'm sure the developers also have lives outside of the game. I have no problem holding my pledge, because I'm enjoying the content. You really think a scammer would say you're more than welcome to cancel your pledge until a new update is released? C'mon man. Cut them some slack.

Louisa May

There is a concept called 'delayed gratification'. Basically, the resistance to the temptation of an immediate pleasure in the hope of obtaining a valuable and long-lasting reward in the long-term. Having seen the results of RK Studios in their production of "Radiant", I am confident that the wait will be worth it. My own impatience, especially after having experienced the pleasures of the story so far, is palpable. Of COURSE, I would prefer the story to continue ASAP! Like, NOW! But, as someone who has created works of art, I understand that quality takes time. In the world of clicks, it is sometimes difficult to take a breath and let the creators create -- and to TRUST. Let be...
