Github and SteamRomManager issues (Patreon)

hi, I've been getting a lot of the same 2 issues:- EmuDeck stuck in the splash screen

- SteamRomManager not parsing or showing error messages.

- SteamRomManager takes forever to launch on Windows.So I think it is best to just make a post about them so I can address this issues for everybody.

- EmuDeck stuck in the splash screenThis is where GitHub comes into account, I'm having issues myself with github lately, it just won't let me push new code. I don't know If they have changed anything or what, but I know I didn't change anything on the loading screen, only added the new animations. If you are having issues try this:

SteamOS: https://emudeck.github.io/frequently-asked-questions/steamos/#why-is-emudeck-not-downloadingWindows: Select the Start menu > Settings.

On Network and Internet, select Change Adapter Options.

Right-click on the Ethernet or Wi-Fi network you are connected to and select Properties.

Choose Internet Protocol Version 4.

Select Properties > Use the following DNS server addresses.

Add 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 or 8.8.8.8 adn 8.8.4.4, try the one that works best for you.

- SteamRomManager not parsing or showing error messages.The dynamic parsers was a new feature and all new stuff always have bugs, they all should be fixed with the latest release, if you are missing some parser, best you can do is:- Reset SRM configuration from EmuDeck, Manage Emulators.- If that didn't fix it, try a custom reset and make sure you are enabling the emulators you want to parse.- SteamRomManager takes forever to launch on Windows.Yep, but nothing I can do here, SRM is amazing but it's old and it's starting to show its age. Sometimes it takes 10seconds, sometimes almost a minute...That's all for today, going back to work!

I can't get the new look SRM to work, before it was really straight forward and now I'm a bit confused with it to be honest

I just installed emudeck and my SRM is not launching. It shows loading bar saying it will close steam and start SRM and then it disappears and nothing happens

Maybe this could help others. I was getting a fatal error when trying to add emulation station to steam. The error mentioned a corrupted file in the srm log. I browsed to that location in file manager and deleted the file. I was then able to add emulation station once again to steam.

Thank you for your wonderful work! I do need to point out though that twice now I've tried to open SRM with Steam not open and it just isn't working. I actually left it going overnight by accident and nothing.

Resetting config in srm has done the trick but when launching ES it freezes on the EMU DECK screen

I ran into an issue with the shortcuts file. Resolved by restoring the shortcuts backup in the same folder in steam for anyone having the issue.

I was stuck on trying to setup EmuDeck for the first time on Windows (Legion Go). I've tried changing DNS settings as listed above and could not proceed to do the first time setup. For me, dependencies kept failing to be installed (Git & 7-Zip), so I had to install them manually - then I was able to proceed. P.S. the install script does not wait for winget to be updated, as when it opens the MSIXBUNDLE Windows will prompt for you to install/update.

I've been using EmuDeck for a long time on my Ally and Windows, but just got a SteamDeck OLED today. I can't get SRM to detect any games. No errors. It just doesn't find games. I've reset SRM multiple times. I've done multiple custom resets. All the emulators and parsers I need are enabled. SRM doesn't find games no matter what I try.

Same here, I can run Dolphin independently and get it to play the game, but SRM won't detect it and add it to steam.

I've noticed 2 main issues since the last update, both related to PS1: 1) SRM parser defaults to the retro arch Beetle and no longer shows Duckstation 2) When launching PS1 games through ES-DE, it does launch Duckstation but in an initialised state. It asks me to point to bios and roms folders, but it doesn't save the settings. So everytime I launch a PS1 game, I get the same setup screen. I've tried searching online for answers but can't find a solution. EDIT - should add I'm using a ROG Ally, and everything else I've tried seems to work ok.

I've seen some folk mention that if you change the SRM theme (from the Settings) to something else, you get a more advanced parser menu. You could see if anything jumps out there?

Switching to SRM classic mode did help! I owned a deck in the past. Installed EmuDeck on a SD card on the old deck. EmuDeck is on the internal SSD on the new deck. I discovered SRM is looking for rooms in the old SD card path. Somehow the old config carried over to the new Steam Deck. Resets are not changing SRM paths back to default. So I guess I have to manually update paths for every parser I use.

I'm on a lenovo legion go and was struggling with the splash screen being blank and manually installing 7-zip instantly fixed it. THANK YOU!

I tried changing DNS settings and IPV4 and still no go on Ally. Installs to the steam deck wallpaper loading screen and hangs. No way to proceed atm.

Same Issue on Ally, just showed the splash screen and blank wallpaper when first booting up emudeck program. Installing 7-zip manually was an instant fix after trying for several hours. Thanks for the tip.

is anyone experiencing when opening SRM through EmuDeck a second time, everything resets to default after editing the parsers previously?

Mine just magically started working. Went to go get dinner, changed nothing and when I came home and loaded it magically worked. I also just a heads up changed all my network settings to auto before I came home so I don’t think that matters for troubleshooting

On the WE version SRM isnt loading because the powershell script is missing according to the log message below. Grabbed it from github and it loads fine now. stderr: The argument 'D:\Emulation\tools/launchers/srm/steamrommanager.ps1' to the -File parameter does not exist. Provide the path to an existing '.ps1' file as an argument to the -File parameter.

Hi, fixed the Duckstation issue, just do a reset config and it will be back to normal. The parser by default is Beetle, I'll post on the next release how to add additional parsers that are not on the default List

there's some issue with SRM ignoring changes and going back to defaults, I'm currently investigating it

Duckstation now works. Thanks 🙏🏼 Resetting the config on its own didn’t really work for me. Doing uninstall/reinstall followed by config reset seemed to work though

looks like the SRM parser config for roms and launchers isn't working because the folders don't exist. I'm able to fix this by manually pointing each parser to the correct folder and .sh file

Couldn't get SRM working to save my life. I've just reverted to the non-Patreon version of Emudeck and it works as intended. No matter what correction method I tried, kept getting the Configuration (Invalid) error. Will wait until all this all get sorted out to reinstall.

Hi, I used Emudeck all the time on Steam Deck with no issue. I've just got the Rog Ally and am trying to set it up. I've installed everything as normal, but no matter what I try, SRM is not loading. It just pops up with the loading screen, the bar goes up and down and then it just closes and I'm back to the Emudeck home page. Steam is not open, tried custom reset, tried reinstalling it through Manage Emulators, tried uninstalling Emudeck and reinstalling it. Nothing is allowing it to load up SRM. Any help with this, please?

In Windows Version, the step that i should log in Patreon, does not show anything, just a empty/blank screen

I finally updated to the latest version using emudeck but it never opens once I go back to steam and reopen it instead I get an error command line in the background that says emulationstationDE.bat not recognized... what did I do wrong?

I noticed if you select the startup for Steam UI and you load into that on a ROG Ally, there does not seem to be a way to disable or load EMUdeck to turn this off again if you want access to the desktop again. Is there a shortcut or option to exit the SteamUI and go back to the desktop while still on the same session?

It was this issue. I have it sorted now, in fact, I sorted it shortly after posting my message (typical). I was just clicking everything that was relevant, but I think what potentially did it was going into "Manage Emulators" and then clicking on SRM and then click "Reinstall/Update" followed by "Reset Configuration".
