They stared at each other for another heartbeat after the matching words left their mouths, then the amusement in their eyes shifted into something hotter. Jason moved first, but Alex met him halfway, and their mouths met in a slow kiss. Alex felt the soft pressure of his lips and the quiet breath he took, answering with the same restraint while her hand rose to the side of his neck without thinking about it.
Both of them pulled back for a moment and smiled before going in again.
The second kiss lasted longer.
Jason tilted his head, and the angle improved, and Alex’s fingers brushed the warm skin above his collar as the contact deepened a little more with each exchange. Then the careful pace broke completely. Jason’s mouth opened against hers and Alex answered at once, tongues meeting and sliding with growing confidence. She tasted the faint mint from the gum he’d chewed after lunch, a low sound escaping her throat before she could stop it. Jason answered with a quiet hum that vibrated against her lips.
The tight space of the Nissan forced them closer.
Alex’s hands found the hem of his shirt and slipped underneath, palms meeting the firm plane of his stomach first before traveling upward across the hard ridges of muscle.
'Holy shit!' She felt the subtle shifts beneath her fingertips as he breathed, noticing how his abs tightened when her nails grazed him lightly. Moving higher, she felt the solid shape of his chest.
A sudden frustration washed over her. She wished they weren’t confined to a two-seater sports car with so little room to move. She wanted to push his shirt up further, to see what her hands were discovering by touch alone, and to have enough space to climb into his lap instead of being twisted sideways in the passenger seat.
Jason’s hands found her waist, holding her steady as their kiss deepened. When Alex’s exploration of his chest began to slow, she reached for his right wrist. Guiding his hand upward, she pressed his palm firmly against the left breast, right over her top.
The contact sent a jolt through both of them.
Jason’s fingers flexed, testing the softness beneath the thin fabric, before he began to squeeze her boob properly. He could feel the warmth of her body, the gentle weight, and how her breathing shifted the moment he gave her a nice squeeze.
"Mhmm~" Alex arched into his touch, never breaking the kiss. She was encouraging him to keep going.
'God,' Jason thought, 'she’s so soft and big.'
Alex’s thoughts ran parallel and just as heated. 'Feels so good. Keep going~ He actually wants this as much as I do. And Haley says I don't have any sex appeal and look like a dork. Ha. God, he is so good at kissing.'
The kiss became more intense.
Their lips remained locked together as Jason kept squeezing her boobs softly. Alex's hands continued their exploration beneath his shirt, one hand moving to the firm muscle of his back while the other rested on his chest, her palm flat against his racing heart. She could feel its rapid beat, and her own pulse quickened in response.
Neither of them said a word. Speaking would have meant pulling apart, and neither was ready for even that slight separation. The only sounds were the soft, wet sounds of their kiss, the occasional rustle of clothes against the seats, and the quiet intake of breath whenever one of them deepened the kiss.
After over fifteen minutes of continuous smooching and some small over-the-shirt action for Jason and inside-the-shirt action for Alex, both of them pulled back with a hard, long kiss. A string of saliva connected their lips as they pressed their foreheads together and both of them smiled a little. The saliva string broke.
"Where did you learn how to kiss that way?" Alex whispered.
"Would you believe me if I said I watched a couple of erotic documentaries on how to please a woman?" Jason said with a smile. "Did it work?"
Alex looked at him for a moment, then chuckled a little. She pulled her hand out from under his shirt and leaned back against the passenger seat. Her cheeks were still flushed from the last fifteen minutes, but she was already starting to look like her usual confident self again. "Unfortunately for my dignity, yes, it worked disturbingly well," she said. "Though calling them documentaries makes me wonder about your educational standards."
Jason adjusted his shirt and leaned back with a satisfied smile. “There were instructions, demonstrations, and educational objectives. By every definition that matters to me, those were documentaries.”
Alex pushed her glasses higher with one finger while studying him. “That argument would get destroyed in any academic setting with even the smallest amount of peer review.”
Jason rested an arm against the steering wheel and looked toward her. “I’m pretty sure I just completed the practical examination successfully, Professor Dunphy. Your peer review included fifteen straight minutes of participation.”
Alex’s mouth opened before she caught herself, and the color immediately returned to her cheeks. “You’re becoming dangerously confident after one successful experiment.”
“One experiment with extremely positive results,” Jason replied as he reached for the bottle of water sitting near the console. “I’m expecting publication in several respected journals before the end of the month.”
Alex took the bottle from him before he could drink and opened it herself. “I’ll be handling the publication because your methodology apparently consists of watching questionable videos and hoping muscle memory handles everything afterward.”
Jason watched her take a drink before raising an eyebrow. “You’re criticizing the methodology while benefiting from the results. That feels scientifically dishonest.”
Alex handed the bottle back with a small smile. “Science allows useful discoveries to come from ridiculous methods sometimes. Penicillin was discovered accidentally, so apparently civilization has survived worse research practices.”
He slowly nodded as though she had given him the greatest compliment imaginable. “You just compared kissing me to the discovery of penicillin. I’m putting that on my résumé.”
She immediately pointed toward him. “That sentence never leaves this car.”
He took a drink from the bottle, then handed it back with a grin. “As long as I get to participate in more experiments, I’m willing to respect the confidentiality agreement.”
'Oh, we're going to do so many experiments...' Alex narrowed her eyes at him. “That depends entirely on what kind of experiments you’re imagining.”
Jason rested his head against the seat and looked thoughtful. “Museum quizzes, competitive trivia, arguing over documentaries, testing restaurants, maybe seeing whether you can survive an entire movie without correcting something scientifically inaccurate.”
Alex gave him an offended look. “If a movie gets the science wrong, somebody has to acknowledge it.”
“See, that’s exactly the behavior I want to study,” Jason replied as he pointed toward her. “I’m thinking long-term research project with repeated observations.”
She folded her arms, though the smile threatening her expression ruined the attempt at seriousness. “Repeated observations require informed consent, clearly established parameters, and a legitimate research objective.”
Jason nodded along like he was taking notes. “Objective number one, determine exactly how many dates it takes before Alex Dunphy admits she enjoys spending time with me without attaching a sarcastic qualification afterward.”
“I’ve already admitted that I enjoy spending time with you.”
Jason’s eyebrows rose immediately. “Wow. Experiment concluded ahead of schedule.”
Alex realized what she had handed him and sighed. “I walked right into that one.”
“Yes. You really did,” Jason said as his grin widened. “I was expecting at least another three dates before obtaining usable data.”
Alex pushed her glasses higher and turned slightly toward him. “Three dates? You’re remarkably confident there will be that many.”
Jason looked at her for a moment before casually gesturing toward the museum behind them. “You voluntarily spent several hours memorizing historical information with me, tied me ten to ten in a quiz, participated in an intense kissing session with me, and you’re still sitting in my car instead of asking me to take you home. I’d say the preliminary results look encouraging.”
Alex tried to maintain her serious expression, though another small laugh escaped. “Your sample size is one afternoon.”
“Technically, this is our second date, so my dataset has doubled.”
“That is statistically meaningless.”
“It’s emotionally compelling.”
Alex shook her head while looking through the windshield. “You have an answer for everything.”
Jason smiled as he adjusted himself comfortably against the seat. “That’s one of the reasons you like me.”
Alex turned back toward him. “You’re assuming I like that quality.”
“You kissed me twice today.”
“That doesn’t constitute peer-reviewed evidence.”
He nodded gravely. “Right, because apparently affection needs citations now.”
“With you, probably.”
Jason laughed before glancing at the score still sitting on his phone. “You know what I actually liked about today?”
Alex looked toward him with genuine curiosity. “What part?”
“The fact that I didn’t have to pretend I understood what you were talking about just to impress you,” Jason said as his playful expression softened. “And you didn’t have to simplify anything for me. We could just talk, compete, disagree, and enjoy ourselves without somebody getting bored.”
Alex remained quiet for a moment. The teasing answer she had prepared disappeared before she could use it because he had landed too close to something she rarely admitted bothered her.
“That was nice,” she finally said as she glanced down at her hands. “Most people lose interest after I start explaining something for longer than thirty seconds.”
Jason gave her a small smile. “Then most people have terrible attention spans.”
“Or I occasionally explain things for twenty minutes without realizing it.”
“I noticed.”
Alex looked at him sharply.
Jason immediately raised one hand. “I also enjoyed it, which is the important part of that sentence.”
Alex studied him suspiciously before relaxing again. “Good recovery.”
They sat for a moment in silence before Jason started the engine...
Alex broke the silence. “You can continue your research.”
Jason glanced toward her as he reached for the gear. “That sounded suspiciously like permission for another date.”
Alex looked out the passenger window, allowing herself a small smile where he could still clearly see it in the reflection. “Consider it provisional approval pending satisfactory performance.”
Jason pulled away from the curb with a satisfied grin. “Professor Dunphy, I accept those terms.”
Alex looked toward him again. “And stop calling me Professor Dunphy every time you think you’re being charming.”
Jason nodded solemnly as they joined traffic. “Of course, Professor Dunphy.”
Alex stared at him for several seconds before finally laughing and shaking her head. “You’re impossible.”
Jason smiled toward the road. “Yeah, but apparently the preliminary results are encouraging.”
