Callum rendering proccess steps π€ (Patreon)

Hello! π€ Today I'm showing you a bit of the process I followed for this study / illustration.
First thing I made was finding nice references: try to look for a face shape you like, where you can cleary see the volumes (or as clear as possible). Also 3D models are extremely useful for references.
I started with a very simple sketch. Thinner lines will help you even more during the proccess. You'll eventually paint over the lines, but the clear you make the sketch, the easier it'll be during the rendering.
After that, I add simple colors. I separate them all in layers so I can play around with saturation, contrast, etc.
After flats, I start with shading. I know if feels like a huge step from flats to shading, but it's just a multiply layer on top of flat colors.
Once we have shadows, we can play with lighting too! I put lights in the oposite area from shadows, and play with contrast as well.
Next steps are basically paitning on top, changing contrasts (like, a lot of times), changing colors, modifing the drawing itself with the Liquify tool from PS... until I'm more satisfied with the result!
This is a neverending proccess. You can keep adding and adding details forever, so what usually helps me to avoid loosing my sanity is thinking about each painting as another study. We can stop whenever we want, but it's important to stop. There will always be a new painting for us to make, we can keep learning in those new ones π€
That's it for thist ime! Thank you so much! Love you all! π€
