Don't understand why The Vampire Diaries is getting the hate that it is lol, I watched it when it came on in REAL TIME and it was great then, and still holds up almost approaching 2 decades later! YES it's more for YA audiences, but it's not an immature kiddy show by ANY means. The only gripe I have with it is the writing in the last half vs the first... The Originals is LEAGUES better than TVD; it’s proven on several aspects, mainly ratings and views it got when it aired lol. When TO aired alongside TVD, TVD’s views dropped and TO’s views increased DRASTICALLY 😂

So, hey, quick suggestion: Interview with the Vampire is a clear outlier on this poll as far as length (current show with 15 episodes vs. the several seasons of 22-23 episodes per season that the rest of these options have). If you guys *do* want to watch the show for the channel (and it kind of seems like you do), maybe you could slip it into the schedule before you start whatever actually ends up winning this poll. (You won’t regret it; I have heard more than one person say that it is the best thing on television right now.)

I'm clearly in the minority here, and it is a democracy so I can't be too critical but I'm gutted this is the top 5... I've voted for Battlestar Galactica as it's undoubtedly the most critically acclaimed, but my only constructive criticism is that out of all the shows that could represent the golden age of television, you're potentially going to end up with something like Doctor Who... When I think of premium or classic shows, and I know you've done several of these, I think more of shows such as Lost, Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Black Sails, The Wire, Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, The walking dead, Game of Thrones, True Detective, Sons of Anarchy, Prison Break, Shogun, Ozark, Silo, 3 Body Problem, Mare of Eastown, Narcos, 11.22.63, Fargo, Black Mirror, Baby Reindeer, Black Bird, Peaky Blinders, Vikings, Westworld, Raised By Wolves, Snowfall, From, 24, The White Lotus, Barry, Succession, Reservation Dogs, Atlanta, The Righteous Gemstones, Freaks & Geeks, Power, TLOU, Stranger Things.... Putting aside the c-tier network tv YA quality, i don’t even think normies will like reacting to it. I started watching "Fringe" when my job posted me in Las Vegas for a couple of months. It is a very smart show that deals with pseudoscience... theories that could happen if the real science rules were slightly bent. I really enjoyed that show! As a gay man, I voted for Interview with the Vampire lol. Personally I think it's the gayer show and the better quality show! But to your point, IWTW does have the least amount of votes. It's literally from the producer of two critically acclaimed shows that straight men love, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Its actually tragic. Sopranos and Twin Peaks are literally peak television up there with the Wire (which they have already done of course). BSG is great, I am old enough to remember the original series and feel the remake did the OG a justice. Fringe I havent seen but mean to. OG Who was good, Ecclestone was meh, Tennant and Smith were great, anything after Smith is a dumpster fire. Interview with the Vampire......HAHAHA! Thats really all that can be said for that.

I'm glad science fiction is winning on the poll and hope BSG eventually wins. Not a lot of big reaction channels react to BSG. Aside from Fringe, it will probably offer the best post-reaction discussion out of all the series on the poll. Dr. Who is okay but the series has drastically fallen off in terms of quality and others on the couch have already seen it. It would be pretty amazing if they reacted to Fringe before the Blindwave crew does.

The things you listed as different are just evolutions of those things from various books, movies, stories. TVD just shows the genre is played out and was already played out before TVD even premiered. Even in the 90's the vampire stuff was overstaying its welcome. They've been making vampire entertainment since the beginning of cinema. There isn't a whole lot that's new to uncover.

Where BSG stands out, production wise, versus the other choices on this list is original musical score. Bear McCreary made a name for himself composing the score for all four seasons of BSG and has some of the best composed original music ever put to a television show. The quality is comparable to Ramin Djawadi's phenomenal work in Game of Thrones. The BSG soundtrack is still one of my most listened to things on spotify.

The Problem with that show. later on, there are spinoffs and cross over episodes. They would get lost if they did not also do the Originals, then if they get invested in some character's, Legacies. it's a whole thing. I Say Battlestar or Doctor Who. they are closed off shows.

It's hard to compare Doctor Who to BSG since Doctor Who is an ongoing show that doesn't have a defined endpoint while BSG does. Doctor Who has had multiple "endings" since 05. YMMV on how much each of them worked for you. I've tried to watch BSG several times & never got further than the second season. It just never hooked me. Whereas a show like Twelve Monkeys had me hooked from the pilot. I also feel like some of the strengths of the show were better executed elsewhere: the handheld shooting style works better in Firefly & the Cylon trope works better with the Actives on Dollhouse. The concept of the Doctor Who really allows for some really interesting experimentation in & outside the genre. I understand Doctor Who isn't everyone's cup of tea. For me though it's the more compelling show by a significant margin.

The fact that TVD is always compared to a show like Buffy which has inspired countless essays and scholar studies baffles me. BSG is a great show, but I don’t know if this crew, with their style of reaction will catch all the subtleties, philosophical influences and political commentary on the show. The same way they missed most of it while watching Buffy. Not that they are not smart, but they are so easily distracted. The same goes for Fringe, one of the best show out there, but not a good match for this crew. So many hints in each episode, cleverly written plots, blink and you miss it in the background. Frankly it requires repeat viewing. Anyway my choices were BSG, FRINGE and DrWHO but only for the ninth and tenth doctor.

the vampire diaries gets a very negative reputation i think because it came out during the vampire craze of the early 2010s and aired on the cw which is not known for putting out nuanced shows to put it nicely, as someone who has watch TVD multiple times the main thing to take away from the show is that it's about loss, it's about coping with and living beyond intense loss and finding ways to move through grief whether they be good or bad, yes there's a tropey love triangle yes there's some unnecessary drama it's a cw show but the girth of the narrative is in journeying through loss with the characters and growing with them beyond pain I will die on the hill that TVD is at its core a beautiful story about loss, grief, and finding the will to live through it

After a while the series lost itself in the plot to absurdity. It was entertaining but is just okay standard science fiction that's fun to watch on your downtime. If one wants to watch a mind-blowing science fiction piece of entertainment involving the "12 Monkeys" story, stick to the movie. TVD peaked from near the end of season 1 through season 4. During that period it was one of the most exciting shows on television. Julie Plec was churning plot like crazy. The show managed to burn through what could be a seasons worth of story in just a few episodes. Seemingly every episode was packed to the brim with gasp worthy moments. The shift that came following the forth season finale badly hobbled it. The longer it went on the show descended into a parody of genre television. Character deaths became more & more meaningless, alliances shifted frequently & characters hung around way past their sell by date. Another shift following the end of season six was the final nail in the coffin. It was a shell of the glory years by that point. Unfortunately hobbling to the finish line was entirely too common of an occurrence with CW shows.

No, Doctor Who consistently doesn't challenge the viewer's world view. It has god tier episodes but overall it's fantasy science fiction. Joss Whedon is a huge BSG fan and even cast Tahmoh Penikett on Dollhouse because of it. Why? Because it challenges the viewers and makes you think. Even Quentin Tarantino freaked out when he saw one of the actors of the show in L.A. He thought that the actor being there instead of shooting at Vancouver meant that his character was about to die in the show. Also, Spike eventually was cast in a BSG spin-off.

I mean it's more I have no interest in bsg and never have seen it so I'm not gonna watch it for the first time when them so yeah if doctor who loses I will have sadly nothing to watch cause most of their shows rn are stuff I haven't seen or care about (like 99 percent of the animes they watch)

@matthew why not try BSG? its highly thought of for a reason, maybe give it a shot it might surprise you. I didn't want to watch Succession and its turned out to be one of the best shows I've ever seen. I wasn't interested in Frieren and same thing it was amazing, one thing that I've found with this paetron is going outside my comfort zone I've found incredible stuff I would've never considered, and that's because of the polls voting for things I would've never watched otherwise

I'd be happy to vote for dr who next round, but its in the wrong category here anyway, for one its 1/2 hr eps and replacing a show that is 1hr long eps. Next rana and navi have already seen it and with chris and marketa largely unavailable (for a very good reason) This leaves the couch cut down to 3 (suraj, pat, spidey) at most, its just the wrong time and time slot. Now once chris and marketa are back and they can work out a proper 1/2 hour live action show time slot that isn't a "prestige" show like succession, the bear etc. then sure, but right now dr who really does seem like the wrong show at the wrong time. But next time which will be sooner then you think BSG isn't all that long then yes i'm voting for dr who.

I mean first of all I know what type of shows I like and trying to watch shows I know ain't for me just makes me hate that show more as it becomes a chore to get through. I do hope you enjoy their reactions to it tho I just hope one day they react to a show I've seen and like cause it's genuinely been a good couple months since they have. At least they can't skip out on arcane s2 like they've done with most of the marvel shows
