Shinji's bankai is one of the few bankai that is forbidden to use in the soul society especially when around allies for that very reason it turns allies into enemies and enemies into allies.

#SundayRundown Bleach TYBW The perception inverting BAN-KAI: Sakashima Yokoshima Happōfusagari (Reversed Evil 8 Treasure Blockade) This Bankai inverts all opponents perceptions of friend and foe by admitting a gaseous hazard, it’s especially dangerous as it can work on anyone but Shinji himself due to the flower guard that surrounds and protects him. While his Shikai can only affects an individual opponent, his Bankai affects a whole group of opponents. It is for this reason that usage of it around allies is forbidden. A cool little parallel is while the Soul Reaper Captains gain a Hollowfied Banaki as a comeback, Shinji as the top Visored (being a Hollowfied Soul Reaper) reveals his Banaki finally acknowledging his Soul Reaper Captain side. Fun Fact: Shinji’s Bankai is another thing exclusively from the novel CFYOW as it was also not shown in the manga. It getting incorporated proves this is not the end of the Bleach as we know it as they have future plans of adapting that novel. Side Note: Lastly remember, Vollständig/Voll Stern Dish = Complete Holy Form (Quincy Bankai Equivalent) and so, This is where the real battles begin.

Bleach #SundayRundown So much happened in this episode, get used to that. The anime does a great job at distilling the chaos, and adds even more sauce. For example, Shinji's bankai, aka 'Saka-shima Yoko-shima Hap-po Fu-sa-ga-ri'(broke that down so even Rana could pronounce it) was NOT in the manga, it was revealed in a light novel, and later debuted in the mobile game 'Bleach: Brave Souls'. However, when it made its anime debut, it shocked all of us, and it is one of many changes that the adaptation makes for the better. While they've done their best to streamline this production, they stepped it up by adding scenes like this. Something so simple, and yet insane. Could you imagine if Shinji decided to go to Las Noches and used his bankai against the entire espada, it's so broken if used right. The track that plays when he fights Bambi is beautiful too, it's entitled 'Everything I lost' and is sung by Bazil Meade. A quick google will tell you that he's the founder of the UK’s first gospel community choir, a major player in the scene, which gives you an idea of the connections that Shiro Sagisu is able to string together. I posted Sagisu's tweet about this specific tune in the discord channel, which also reveals the level of detail and effort put into it. For instance, the song was recorded in London through two different studios(one of which being Abbey Road!), but mixed by Sagisu in both Paris and back home in Japan. He's truly Mr. Worldwide and a master of collaboration, I know you all will continue to enjoy his work. Really dope that you guys finally watched the opening too, and that the rest of the crew saw the foreshadowing clip from the original series. And what about that post credits scene??? 👀

Despite him getting slumped almost immediately afterwards, I fucking love Shinji's bankai so much. It's top 4 bankais for me in the entire anime I think.

Shinji's bankai Sakashima Yokoshima Hapo Fusagari allows Shinji to reverse alignment so he can turn enemies into allies and allies into enemies

Shinji's Zanpakuto Sakanade(Shikai) - Translates to "Counter Stroke" and the release command is Collapse Sakashima Yokoshima Happōfusagari(Bankai) - Translates to "Reversed Evil Eight Treasure Blockade" the ability turns allies into enemies and enemies into allies. Which is why the soldat attacked each other. Fun Fact: There are Bankai that are banned form use in the seretei, not necessarily because they're too strong but because they might be too dangerous. Shinji's is one of those banned Bankai's, because it's an area of effect ability that effects everyone, friend or foe. The 8th Kenpachi I mentioned in another comment also had a banned bankai because it also was an indiscriminate AoE type. Also, you're gonna get a lot of these comments probably. We did already see Vollstandig before. Quilge, the guy Ichigo fought in Hueco Mundo in the first cour used it. He also explained that Uryu used it in his fight against Mayuri, but it was called Lets Stil what they use now is an upgraded version.

Is there a reason BG9 was completely immobilized by the Hollow poisoning but Cang Du could still move more freely and attack? BG9 didn’t even have Soi Fon’s Bankai out so I would’ve assumed it would be the other way around. Kinda a shame Soi Fon didn’t get a Hollowfied design like Toshiro did when using her Bankai.

It’s most likely cause Cang Du still had energy to fight who wasn’t fighting at all, unlike BG9 who was already fighting and being attacked prior.

#SundayRundown #BLEACH You were wondering if Ishida had a Vollständig (Voll Stern Dich) in his fight with Kurotsuchi. The answer is no. When Ishida broke his sanrei glove (which he wasn't supposed to do), he gained Letz Stil (just say "Let's steal!" with a German accent. 😆) This was the original form of what became Vollständig. As we know from that Ishida/Kurotsuchi fight, and as was expanded on by Quilge during his fight with Ichigo, Letz Stil came with a bit of a drawback: loosing all your powers. Ishida's grandpa was the only one who could use it properly, and rather than helping to refine it (as we see they eventually did), he preferred Quincy's just not use it at all. --- Yes, it's certainly unethical for Urahara to place a listening device on Kurotsuchi without his knowledge...but if you recall, Kurotsuchi placed monitoring bacteria in Ishida's body to analyze his every move; which he used to gain the advantage over Szayelaporro before their fight. So our mad, shiny boy really has no room to talk. --- I love how with Shinji, everything is reversed. As a refresher, he was introduced floating upside-down looking at Ichigo. Then, when he briefly joined Ichigo's class, he wrote his name backwards on the board. Lots of little reverse details like this are shown, and also, not only do his shikai and bankai have reversal powers, but how they're used is reversed. A bankai is normally used for fighting the strongest opponent, where the shikai is used on several weaker ones. Because of the way his powers work, however, Shinji's bankai has to be used on groups of fodder enemies, whereas his shikai is used one-on-one.

I think the jazz song playing during Shinji's part was a callback to the "turn back the pendulum" arc when he was telling aizen about this hip new style called jazz. Ikakku's voice actor is different since his original voice actor was Vic Mignogna... now it he is voiced by Todd Haberkorn who previously voiced Moeh Shishigawara in bleach (the fullbringer kid who has lucky punches) A little fun with the title "A Fundamental Virulence", Virulence is defined as "the severity or harmfulness of a disease or poison." and what did we learn about hollows and quincies?

#SundayRundown: Bleach Imagine if Toshiro had his Bankai against Bazz B. Do you think he would’ve won that battle? Keep in mind, Bazz B didn’t go into his Vollständig and only went up to 2 fingers during that battle. I can see arguments for both though.

Uryu use Letzt Stil against Mayuri back in Soul Society. Is like a primitive form of Voll Stern Dich. In the previous court when Ichigo face off against Quilge he wonder if that was the quincy's secret move that Uryu use before.

BG9 is a robot and he mentions his systems are not functioning due to the hollow interruption. I’m assuming Quincy mechanical magic made mixed with hollow reitsu made him shut down

Show could have explained more instead of hammering the same thing again and again with repeated lines. For example, Shunsui can go inside shadows like against Stark he did. What would be the difference.

He's won almost every fight, if you consider it winning that he defeats his opponent, but then an outside force releases them from his ice. If you don't consider that a win, then he's also never lost a fight, except against Aizen. That includes not loosing to Baz-B, who temporarily defeated him, but then an outside force got him back up again. 😉

- The idea that Quincy's grudge against hollows is one based on fear of death is an important bit to remember, especially so since Yhwach is the foundation of what it means to be Quincy. Additionally you must remember that Quincy have more spiritual energy than average humans, therein they'd be targeted very often by Hollows, so not attacking them isn't really a choice. - Shinji's Bankai occurs relatively quickly here, so for any who don't quite understand, put simply: it specifically inverts the perception of Allies and Enemies. Therein all of those caught within his Bankai view their friends and partners as enemies, thus they begin killing each other. (Basically Teaming up against Shinji is a bad idea.)

Shinji bankai was so hype and I loved that R&B style ost that played when he was fighting Bambietta. Shinji always has the best theme songs, remember 'Escalon' from OG Bleach? Basically the alien invading Mexico music 😂 I seen a comment of someone saying that and its accurate. I swear Bleach soundtracks are unmatched. Shinji VA definitely changed, I liked Roger Craig Smith way better (Deidara VA) but Shinji voice changed along with many others including Ikkaku which I didn't even realize. I thought it was still Vic but it's Todd Haberkorn and he's doing great imo. Still sounded the same this episode to me. Glad you guys checked out the opening it's so dope it's giving slice of life vibes, everyone looked fire in their outfits but Urahara and Yoruichi stuck out for me. As always the drip is immaculate, shout out to Kubo the fashion icon. This op kinda reminds me of opening 4 "Tonight Tonight Tonight" from OG Bleach. I agree with Suraj it's like FLCL meets Cyberpunk it's so cool.

So a little fun note is that in the anime for the most part all the Sternritters with Voll Stern Dich have unique colours. While in the manga they were all the regular Quincy Blue. The choice to make them unique colours was to make each of them stand out a little and give a litte personality. The idea first came in the Bleach mobile game "Brave Souls" (do not look up its got too many spoilers). There we see Bambi appear for the first time in a game format and people at first were supprised that her Voll Stern Dich was red. Personally I think it works fine and makes the Sternritters stand out a bit more.
