Anyways, Reikaku = Spirit Sense And the ‘Dharma Doll Fell Down/Bodhidharma Falls Down’ that Lilie Barro recognized as ‘chocolate ingles’ from Spain are both similar, if not identical to Red-Light, Green-Light as a children’s game, which is the gist of Shunsui’s Shikai abilities and like all Bankais, his is the Adult/Inverse version of that concept. The Theatrical Bankai: KatenKyōkotsu Karamatsu Shinjū (Bones of Heavenly Blooming Madness: Withering Pine Lovers' Suicide/ Flower Crazed Heaven Bone Spirit Withered Pine Love Suicide) To release, Shunsui holds his Shikai out in front of him with the blades pointing down, which prompts several black tendrils to extend out from him like shadows (resembling ink-drawn pine branches) while his Zanpakutō Spirit, Katen or ‘Ohana’ manifests behind him who was revealed along with most other Zanpakutō Spirits in the anime canon Zanpakutō Rebellion arc (Eps 230 - 265) as the best in anime. A vast area around Shunsui is subsequently overcast by an aura that alters the perception of those it reaches, making their surroundings appear ‘gloomy, desolate, and full of despair’ while inducing chills, and making the sky appear as if covered in eerie yellow squares, like the paneling of a theater stage, and much like Yamamoto’s Bankai with its 4 directional phases, Shunsui’s is divided into 4 acts of an adult tragic play. Act 1: ‘Hesitance and Apportionment of Wounds’ - A man hits a woman, he feels great shame as if the wounds he inflicted he can also feel them, and it becomes real damage, from mental to physical. In context, Any wounds that Shunsui or his opponent inflict on each other will emerge on their body as well, shareing the pain. Act 2: ‘The Pillow of Shame’ - The man starts feeling even worse for what he did and develops a sickness cause of this great shame. In context, black spots appear all over the body of Shunsui's opponent, causing them to bleed profusely. Act 3: ‘The Severing Abyss’ - As a way to atone the man drops into an endless ocean hoping to drown and the woman also drowns with him because she pities him. However, the man becomes a coward, starting to swim up to the surface abandoning his promise to drown along with the woman. In context, Shunsui and his opponent are engulfed in a massive, inescapable body of water, which both are meant to remain in until one of them runs out of Reiatsu and drowns. Final Act: ‘Thread-Cutting Scissors upon a Blood-Streaked Throat’ - As a result of all this, the woman wanting to get rid of the man's regret and cowardness, cuts his throat. In context, After sheathing his swords, Shunsui winds a white thread around his opponent's throat multiple times before pulling it out, leaving a deep cut in their throat that expands before blowing up their head. As for Lilie Barro’s transformation, it’s his Vollständig/Voll Stern Dich: ‘Ziliel’ (Judgment of God) which is based on the biblically accurate Seraphim angels since he’s the 1st Quincy to be granted a Schrift by Yhwach as the ‘closest to God’ and has power over the ethereal light itself.

And this apparently only one of the plays that Shunsui’s Bankai can do. We’ve only scratched the surface with it. Also, it’s heavily implied that he and Ohana/Katen are more or less a married couple. You can see in how they interact with each other.

Now you guys know why Ukitake told Shunsui “You shouldn’t use your Bankai where others might see it.” As you can imagine, everyone in Fake Karakura Town nearby would’ve all been caught up in the Bankai’s effects which is why he waited until everyone else left when he used it against Lille. Also explains why he didn’t use it on Aizen either since everyone tried to gang up on Aizen at the time though it would be a gamble anyway due to Aizen’s perfect hypnosis.

#SundayRundown #Bleach Fun Fact Ohana character design was actually shown in the anime only Zanpakuto Rebellion Arc along side many of the other Soul Reapers Zanpakuto Spirits before being made Canon in the Manga. Also Shunsui lost his Eye in part one during the Quincy Invasion of Soul Society by a Quency named Robert.

Thirty seconds of fighting Starrk in his Resureccion and Kyouraku was ready to kill half the cast with this bankai to stop him. Starrk was casually toying with Kyouraku, who was rocking Lille's world until he used his god powers.

You got to love how all of Shunsui’s opponents mostly consisted of people who used guns. Coyote Starrk, Robert Accutrone, and now Lille Barro unless you count Chad’s muscles 💪 as guns. How did Ichigo put it? “I can’t even imagine Chad losing.” 😅 If that was me who said that, perhaps Shunsui would’ve lost to Chad that day. 🤷

#SundayRundown #BLEACH Really guys? REALLY??? You're now forgetting things that happened IN THIS ARC?! 🤣 NO, Kyouraku hasn't always had an eye-patch. He lost that eye in core 1 to Heisenberg. That's what y'all called Robert Accutrone. He shot out Kyouraku's eye with a gun when Kyouraku was distracted. He had 2 all throughout the first series. Now, he wears a patch like Kenny, but unlike Kenny, he actually needs it. --- You guys have caught on to the fact that "BLEACH"s art style is simple on purpose. It's been Kubo's style from the beginning. You can look at him and Kishimoto as opposites in that regard. Kishimoto is all about details. The "Naruto" manga is filled with wide shots of various locations that are filled with intricate details that draw you into the world. Kubo is all about LACK of details. "BLEACH" is filled with close shots of characters in front of completely blank backgrounds that draw you into the characters emotions. --- I freaked out when I saw Katen Kyoukotsu manifested. I ultimately soured on the Zanpakuto Rebellion arc by the end of it, but seeing at least this character design from that filler made canon was a special treat. 🤩

Presumably if pre-Hogyoku Aizen had been caught up in it, whether Kyoka Suigetsu is active or not wouldn't have mattered. He can't be that far away from his illusions, so it may have ensnared him too.

It’s crazy to think THIS is the Bankai that Starrk almost forced Shunsui to use on him back then before Ukitake stepped in to help. I think it’s safe to say, Starrk was not going to survive this, as well as others would would’ve got caught up in that Bankai.

The way Shunsui effortlessly takes centre stage is always a sight to behold, it looked tumultuous for the group until he turned the tables. Almost immediately gaining the upper hand, not only because of his ability, but his confidence and tactical nuance, in spite of some very glaring disadvantages. The music during the start of their battle is also called 'FIGHT THE FIGHT - version 3rd', another masterclass from the main man Sagisu. Eventually, Shunsui is backed into a corner, as just like Pernida, Lille unleashes a devastating new form, so in turn, Shunsui finally releases his bankai. The very one that Stark demanded to see, and Ukitake warned him not to use around comrades. You understand why given how large the reach it has. We see a shot of Chad and Orihime looking inquisitive and concerned respectfully. In the manga, Chad is curious over what is happening, and described the atmosphere as 'getting the chills', which is most comparable to As Nodt's power of fear. While this omission is a shame, it adds to the intrigue and you as a viewer are equally confused. The sound design was top notch as ever, as when Ichigo recognizes the spiritual pressure, there is a deafening noise spliced into the background, making it appear more claustrophobic and overwhelming. This is what an anime studio should do with adaptations, generate a sequence that propels the source material. In turn, we get a sense of how the characters are feeling through their interpretation. Then we finally see the performance, one inspired by the Japanese kabuki theatre, which I wasn't overly familiar until I read the chapter years ago. Again, the anime goes a different direction, in the manga, the background area becomes morbid, whereas here we see an almost a golden glow with string-like patterns referencing the kabuki plays. So it is strange that they kept the part in about Shunsui asking Lille if this world seemed more depressing, it doesn't jive with the tone. Nevertheless, Katen Kyokotsu Karamatsu Shinju demonstrates power which we've never seen before. Inflicting shared wounds, instantly poisoning the opponent and drowning them, all sequentially. It does so beautifully, especially with the soundtrack and sound effects wrapping around the scenes again. Telling the tale of a lover's suicide, which is seemingly inspired by the play Sonezaki Shinju from Chikamatsu Mozaemon. There was a brilliant breakdown on reddit about all this, which is honestly too stacked for you guys to discuss here, but maybe some other time. We also finally see Katen in the canon, as she made an appearance in the Zanpakuto filler arc. She represents her bankai very well, beautiful but mercilessly cruel and not in the mood for games. With the final act, the anime staff outdid themselves yet again, by creating a watercolour style shot as Shunsui lands the final blow, they did not need to add this much aura honestly. Oh and I'll need Penguin for another assist. They actually spoiled Shunsui's bankai in a trailer, which was insane to do, but as we've made it to this episode now, I highly recommend you guys to watch it.

Try turning off ad blockers, I was using fire fox with ublock and the website wasn't working but then I used crome without any ad blockers and it worked for me

Best episode so far, this was so hype. Kyoraku's bankai is fire af and I like how it has different acts. Kyoraku always fighting someone with guns lmao. First ofc Starrk, then the Sternritter Robert in season 1 of TYBW and now Lille Barro. Also love how we see Kyoraku's sword spirit Ohana who was in the Zanpakuto Rebellion arc. It shows everyone's Zanpakuto spirits and you get to see their designs. Idk if y'all are considering watching it, but it's worth it. Renji's monkey and snake (Zabimaru - which yall have seen before) is in the arc as well

Shunsui lost his eye during the Quincey invasion right before Yamamoto died. Somethng I always enjoyed about Bleach over other anime is how thought out the concepts of the Zanpakutou abilities and expansions between shikai and bankai. Something I've wondered about but never looked into is the actual japanese term for like a stage play/performance/show. Shunsui's Shikai is childrens games, while his bankai is more of an adult game and I'm willing to bet there is a very intentional word play somewhere in there. "Asobi" is "play", but I've only ever heard them pronouce "game" with an accent (geimu), so I'm not sure if there is a word for it.

I have watched both sub and dub. The sub bankai does sound better, no hate. And definitely the sub translation of the line before it, "time to make the next move from the end of the rope." It just sounds better than the dub translation. Dub still good though 👍

not where I thought this comment was going. if anything, it’s a testament to how strong and under appreciated starrk really is, especially seeing as he was fighting totally unmotivated and with half his spiritual pressure. it was bad writing in my opinion to never show the full extent of the no.1 espadas powers.
