I found out that there are a numbers of reasons why there’s footage of sitcoms “without laugh tracks.” •Some scenes have to be shot on location or not in a traditional studio, so the audience’s laughter to those scenes is recorded and inserted later •A lot of sitcoms use something called sweetening. Sometimes the timing or volume of the laughter doesn’t work well with the final cut, so those would be adjusted in post production to help the final cut run smoother. •Multiple takes. There’s flubs, or they need different deliveries, so they shoot the scenes again. The audience has heard the jokes already, so they’re less or not responsicr. This is where we get the “laugh track removed” footage people use as “proof” that some sitcoms aren’t funny/don’t actually have an audience Not to say there isn’t times where pre recorded laughter is inserted or used to enhance a real reaction when moments don’t land with the audience as intended. It probably just isn’t as prevalent as people claim.
