Hiya Normies! This is the first time doing a Sunday Rundown, so I hope you don’t think of it as cringe. So interesting fact, 4 of the original Sternritters we saw in this flashback were the original generation of Yhwach’s Royal Guard, the Schutzstaffel. You’ve already seen 3 of them including Sternritter Vice Captain Huburt, who was the one who wanted to fight kid Bazz B, as well as, Seydlitz, and Algora. They were all first shown as corpses when Yamamoto used his Bankai to ressurect those he slain to hurt Yhwach(though it was Royd pretending to be Yhwach and had his memories) https://ww7.readbleachmanga.com/chapter/bleach-digital-colored-comics-chapter-509/ However, the blonde girl who shot and killed Bazz B’s mom, Nikita Deslock, was never in the manga and was first introduced in the anime during the flashback with Ichibe and Yhwach and who tried to take a shot at Ichibe. You’ll get a refresher at the end of this Cour by yours truly. Yeah despite them being the elite Sternritter back then, they still don’t hold a candle to the current generation due to them not even possessing a special Shcrift power by Yhwach back then 1000 years ago.

#SundayRundown Bleach TYBW This episode sheds light on the subtitle of this cour “The Conflict” (much like Ep 11 for cour 1 & Ep 24 for cour 2 as the set ups for their finales) between not just main characters Ichigo & Uyru but also a parallel between those of the same race: Jugram (Haschwalth) whose schrift is "B", while Bazzard Black’s (Bazz B) is "H" paralleling from each other as the Balanced Heat/Heat of Balance since B & H are located opposite sides of “Bleach” with Yhwach’s shrift “A” placed between them. Bazz-B’s backstory hints at a larger narrative: the Quincies existed long before Yhwach. Like many conquerors writing their own history, Yhwach created his own faction and erasing those who opposed him. He’s portrayed as a twisted Messiah-like figure, wiping out opposing Quincies much like how certain regimes rewrite their past. He's a conquering warlord, Bazz-B's family was the former ruling nobility, Standard practice. This mirrors real-world history, where not all Germans were Nazis, yet many dissenters were overshadowed or silenced by the Nazi regime. In regards to the further context subtleties between their conflict and for those that didn’t notice, Jugram had an uncle diddy so when Yhwach ended these opposing Quincy factions which included his uncle, although he didn’t emotionally show it, he was relieved as he was freed from that traumatic childhood. This is the reason why Jugram followed Yhwach since his uncle died from his attacks. Bazz B thought they both had the same goal of revenge but he didn’t understand what Jugram went through, and of course was forced to join after learning that he’s Yhwach’s other half as a Quincy who gives others powers rather than takes them like the rest as the average Quincy. Lastly, This Flash backstory took place 1000+ years in the past, and Yhwach was born 200 years before even that making him about 1200 years old.

Bleach TYBW Episode 38- “Friend” Keyword Page 1: Bazzard Black / Bazz B “A boy born into the Black family, lords of a certain region, and raised in a castle living without any hardships. From an early age, he was able to manifest Holy bows and was a talented Quincy. Six months after meeting Jugo, the castle was burnt down by Yhwach and since then he immersed himself in honing his skills. He met Yhwach when he learnt of the establishment of the Sternritters, but was discarded without being found of any value. He is a knight of the Sternritter, but rebelled against them when he was consecrated in the Soul Society by Yhwach. His Schrift is ‘H’ ‘The Heat’ representing the ability to manipulate fire through his fingertips by up to 4 times.” Episode 38 Keyword Page 2: Jugram Haschwalth / Jugo “A boy who grew up in an abusive environment, living in the forest with his uncle without parents. He had no talent as a Quincy and hunted for food using a common bow and arrow. Six months after his encounter with Bazz, the forest was burnt down by Yhwach and he immersed himself in honing his skills. When he learnt of the establishment of the Sternritter, he met Yhwach and was welcomed as “the other half” of Yhwach, finding a place to belong he had long sought. He is the Commander of the Sternritter and serves loyally as a close aide to Yhwach. His Schrift is the letter ‘B’ ‘The Balance’ representing the ability to scale fortune with misfortune and tipping the scales as perfectly counteracting his enemies attacks.”

We're now on the last chapters I read of the manga, so I might check out the last few volumes before we reach the final episodes. And yet... I'm not ready for Bleach to end, it's a big part of my youth.

2 more episodes, 1 more core than it's ONE PIECE.

You know what really sucks about this? Its Bazz-B never turned his back on Jugram, even in the flashback when he believed that Jugo was weak and could hinder his goal of killing Yhwach he still wouldn't abandon his friend however Jugo turned on Bazz B as soon as he was told he was useful by Yhwach.

Phil

The saddest part about the betrayal is that Bazz-B probably never considered Haschwalth as an equal. Yhwach attacked both of their homes, killing Bazz's family as well as Haschwalth's uncle. While Bazz chose the path of revenge, he was so self-absorbed that he never took the time to understand his friend's situation, which is why he didn't really understand him. Bazz frequently remarked on how he was a genius, while he dismissed Haschwalth as talentless. But tbf, even Haschwalth himself didn't realize his own feelings until Yhwach recruited him. Not only did Yhwach free Jugo from his abusive uncle, but he was also the first person to acknowledge Haschwalth's worth, even before his so-called "Friend" did.

Would you be able to tell me what the error code says or if it just says "error code?"

One tiny detail I like about this fight is how Bazz razed the Sternritter symbol on Jugram's cape, showing how this is not a fight between two Sternritters but two friends. This episode is my favourite from Cour 3. Last Sunday Rundown, I mentioned how Senjumaru's Bankai set things up for the people who were in the Bankai, and we see Jugram face off against Bazz B in this episode. However, there's the question of Pernida and Lille being dead while Jugram isn't, which raises the question of whether Senjumaru's Bankai had any effect on Jugram at all. If not, then why was he not affected? But if he did, how is he still alive? That's something for you guys to dwell on. Navi is right about Jugram. One man's fortune is another man's misfortune. Bazz had a legit reason for hating Yhwach, but Jugram had a legit reason for loving him, as he saved him from his abusive uncle. Also, we can't overlook the fact that they were kids back then, when all these factors were straining their relationship. Suraj, you were blaming Jugram for the relationship coming to an end, but Bazz had his faults, too. There are also parallels between Ichigo-Uryu and Bazz-Jugram, but with Jugram deciding not to keep his friendship, unlike Uryu. In Bleach, battle is a form of communication, and Jugram knew that if he had talked with Bazz, their friendship would have ended, as he never resonated with Bazz's idea of vengeance. That's why Jugram kept ignoring Bazz's taunts all this time, as he did not want to lose his friend until he had no choice but to fight with him now. To put it simply, Jugram decided to choose the side of the man who saved him from childhood trauma and gave him a purpose instead of his friend. I don't think you can fault him for that, as it is understandable even if it's heartbreaking. Also, if you still think Jugram did not care for Bazz, why does he still keep the pin that Bazz gave him to this day? It's on his sword if you look closely. We can also see that the blood on Jugram's face resembles a tear. We also know that Jugram is all about finding balance as his schrift is B and he probably thinks that the misfortune of losing his friend would be repaid by the same amount of fortune, making his decision even more understandable.

Quincies are humans, they are mortal, except for Yhwach. Humans are made of matter (protons, neutrons, electrons, atoms, molecules etc etc), souls are made of "reishi". Reishi is not the same as Reiatsu. Reishi are the physical particles that make up the different worlds of souls, and the obey different rules than our matter. Reiatsu is "spiritual pressure", it is the manipulation of Reiryoku as a weapon. Reiatsu is also the power that binds particles of Reishi together, creating objects in Soul Society, Hueco mundo etc etc. This is why Quincies cannot just simply absorb all the Reishi of a Soul Reaper and be done with it, before doing that they must first break their Reiatsu. Reiryoku is "spiritual energy", it's what you would call "chakra" in Naruto. Then there's Reikaku. Reikaku is the ability to detect Reishi, and thus Reiatsu also. Using these few rules you can figure out a lot of things that are not directly explained. Tousen was able to fight because he used Reikaku to detect Reishi around him. Shunsui tricked Lille Baro into shooting at his "after images", he was leaving his Reishi behind, so those "after images" were technically Shunsui's actual body from the POC of someone who only uses their Reikaku to detect their surroundings. (This is just my own theory, but I think that's how Yhwach makes people explode, like what he did to that guy in the first episode, or how he made Ichibei explode into pieces. I think he just overpowers their reiatsu, and the reishi just escapes in all directions. ) For this topic you need to know that a being made of reishi ages very slowly after a certain point in their life. What you're seeing in this flashback happens 1000 years ago, before the first attack on the Soul Society. After the the first attack 1000 years ago, the Quincies split into 2 factions. Quincies that hid in the human world, and Quincies that hid in the shadows of the Soul Society. Quincies living in the human world are simply humans with special powers, and they age normally, because their bodies are made of matter. The Quincies that fled to their palace in the shadows of the Soul Society, they could have discarded their human bodies and acquired new ones made of Reishi, which age very slowly. This is also what Ichigo does when he uses his soul reaper badge in order to leave his human body behind (and sometimes leave it to Kon). That's why Uryu is "the last living Quincy", because he's technically the only one that's still alive (except his father, who has no interest in being a Quincy), the rest of the Quincies have bodies made of Reishi, aka: they're souls. Some Sternritters have only recently been converted into souls, like for example Asnodt, which is also implied he died in that hospital bed in his short flashback, but Yhwach came and "saved" his soul. There are also other theories out there, like for example it could be the case that dimension behaves like the Dangai, the place where Ichigo trained to obtain the final getsuga. Another one is that Yhwach's blood makes you immortal, or converts your body into reishi.

Rewatching this episode. The ending of Jugram and Bazz fight, the art is like the best it has ever been in the bleach anime.

Thank you for letting me know. I will be doing some digging to find out why this is happening.

I like that you guys already picked up that Jugram was abused by his uncle before he even came on screen. When people read this part in the manga, it was mostly highly implied and like me, you would have to use your imagination. The anime makes it a lot more clear when you can actually hear the tone of Jugram’s uncle when he calls him, “My precious Jugo,” which explains why Jugram doesn’t like to be called Jugo. The first time we saw Bazz B call him that in the story is when after Uryu was named successor and Bazz B challenged “Jugo” for his position if he wasn’t going to care if a newcomer like Uryu would seemingly take his place by Yhwach’s side as a successor before Askin broke up the fight with a Gift Ball.

#SundayRundown Bleach I really loved this episode and the backstory presented, Bazz-b and Jugo’s relationship is difficult to explain but this is my interpretation after seeing many youtubers explanations: There is a power dynamic in play, Bazz is at the top and Jugo at the bottom, all this time Bazz believes he’s a genius and thinks he’s doing Jugo a favor by being his friend and protecting him, he truly cares but that sentiment exists in his mind. After his clan is destroyed, he goes on a quest for revenge and assuming Jugo feels the same drags him along, he still thinks he’s doing him a favor since a weak Quincy could not kill Yuha alone, also Bazz believes he’s the main character of his story. The problem is that Jugo has no hatred or reason to take revenge on Yuha, even so he trains even harder than Bazz, showing his great devotion to the cause. At the end when Yuha chooses Jugo, Bazz feels jealousy and betrayal. Think of it like this, you are the best in a subject and your friend sucks, he asks for help and you teach him, you want him to succeed but you still think you are better than him, your friend motivated studies even harder in secret and in the next test not only does he approves he scores better than you, now the power dynamic changed and you feel conflicted emotions of resentment, betrayal, jealousy, etc but he’s still your friend. That’s how Bazz felt at that moment. If you noticed Bazz and Jugo are a reflection of Ichigo and Uryu, even in their personalities, and how they could end. Also all of the flashback took place in the human world, this is before the first invasion a 1000 years ago so Bazz and Jugo are some of the oldest Quincy in record. You can tell the date because Yuha still had the Almighty, if you remember Ichibei sealed his eyes before the first invasion a 1000 years ago. Finaly to make things even more sad, Bazz-B’s ultimate attack is called: Burning Full Fingers- B.F.F. “Fuck Jugramm”-Suraj and the entire Bleach community

Meh

I'm fuzzy on the details too, but my understanding is that this "Quincy world" is in the shadow of Soul Society. The time framing they give here is 200 years so that coincides with AFTER the Quincy extermination, so I would place Bazz and Jurgam's life within that (assuming they live human length lives). 200 years also puts them right about pre-industrial revolution so it makes sense that they maybe did or did not develope beyond that into present day with no contact. It also sounds like that world's been there since at least after the failed Soul Society invasion 1000 years ago so Yuha has been making those moves at least that long. One question I just thought of watching this time was where did the rule about Stirn Ritters fighting each other come from? Was that Yuha, or was it actually Jurgam did himself so he'd always have an optical excuse not to accept Bazz's provocations or be forced to "discipline" him . Side note you are all technically correct at the end. Isekai does strictly refer to going to another world. it just happens that in the VAST majority of those stories they use RPG elements, and you're aware of the most iconic trope for getting there being Truck-kun XD.

dreamergenesis's

No all of the flashback took place in the human world, this is before the first invasion a 1000 years ago so Bazz and Jugo are some of the oldest Quincy in record. You can tell the date because Yuha still had the Almighty, if you remember Ichibei sealed his eyes before the first invasion a 1000 years ago. Also Yuha only awake after 900 years of being sealed, he regain his pulse; after another 90, he would regain his intellect; and he would absorb the power of every "impure" Quincy to make their abilities his own, regaining his strength after 9 more years. This flashback has to happen before the event of the first invasion of the soul society over 1000 years ago

#SundayRundown Just to clarify, Ywach knew who Jugram was because he has the Almighty and can see the future. Notice that this was before Ywach's confrontation with Ichibei from 1000 years ago, where his eyes were sealed, as shown in Cour 2, which was before Ywach's first invasion of the Soul Society, and before he was defeated by the original Gotei 13 and Yamamoto. He probably burned down Jugo's forest and Bazz B's home to lure Jugram to himself, since he was able to tell with his future sight that those actions would lead his other half to him. It's also worth noting that, although Bazz B was trying to be nice and inclusive to Jugram, he still saw Jugram as lesser than himself. Jugram hated the name Jugo because that's what his abusive uncle called him, so of course he didn't like it when Bazz B called him that too. Bazz B kept him close out of pity, and not wanting to leave behind a friend, but it also probably made Bazz B feel better about himself by comparison, to keep around someone who is less outwardly talented than himself. So when Ywach truly validated him and saw the great potential in Jugram, for the first time Jugram felt worthwhile, so of course he would be fiercely loyal to Ywach. And Jugram clearly didn't want Bazz B to confront him head-on, as he knew that would be the end of him, so he tried to avoid a confrontation with him at all costs, and even continuously asked him to stand down and walk away during their fight, but Bazz B gave him no choice, so he had to act, even though he didn't want to hurt his former friend 😢

Here's the timeline, as I understand it. 1200~ years before present: Yhwach is born in the human world 1000+ years before present: Yhwach Assembles the Licht Reich, presumably somewhere in central Europe judging by the names. This would be where the flashbacks from this episode happen. 1000+ years before present: Ichibe counsels Yhwach to be happy with what he has(his Licht Reich) and to not attempt to invade the soul society. Yhwach refuses, and Ichibe trades Pernida to seal off The Almighty. From Bazz-B's flashback, this happens at least three years after Jugram joins the Sternritter. 1000 years before present: The Licht Reich invades the soul society, ultimately ending in failure(due to Chojiro shanking Yhwach in a sneak attack while Yhwach was fighting Yamamoto). 999 years before present: The remaining members of the Licht Reich go into hiding in the "Shatten Bereich", a separate dimension hidden in the shadows of the Seireitei. From there, they go on for the next span of time recruiting for the Wandenreich(the quincies we all know, love, and loathe from the current events). Some question here as to how time applies to those who stay here, since this is technically inside of the Seireitei, there is an argument to be made that people here might age very slowly(which might explain people like Bazz, Jugo, and a few others that should've been around at the time of the Licht Reich. 200 years before present: Due to rising tensions with the remaining quincies in the human world, over the disturbance of the balance by their destruction of hollow souls, the Soul Reapers purge all known quincies in the human world. This is obviously imperfect, as we know of at least two quincy families that survive.

SUNDAY RUNDOWN - PENGUIN I BEG The song that plays at the start of this fight is called "Torn Apart - Heavy Metal". It's a variation of the same theme that played when Ichigo fought Grimmjow for the 3rd time. The difference is the original theme reflected what it was like to have your heart torn apart metaphorically. This version is what it's like to be torn apart literally, lol. Bazz B's and Jugram's relationship is defined by a lack of proper connection. Jugo, who was being sexually abused by his uncle, struggles to express himself to Bazz, and Bazz is too caught up in his own vendetta to wonder if Jugo actually feels the same way he does. After all, Ywach came along and killed Jugo's uncle, and burned down the hell of a home that Jugo was trying to escape. I don't think Bazz ever truly realized this, which is why he assumes Jugo would want to kill Ywach just as badly as him. It brings to mind Orihime's poem from early in the manga, which she actually does say in the anime: "If I were the rain, that joins sky and earth which otherwise never touch, could I join two hearts as well?" The point being about how people struggle to connect and understand each other. Bazz never understood Jugo. And when Bazz looked at Jugo with eyes of envy, Jugo felt betrayed. And while Bazz since tried to connect with Jugo (through fighting), Jugo never let it happen, closing his heart off to Bazz. It's a great parallel to Ichigo and Uryu.

Masked Void

[Thoughts][Lotta reading for those interested sorry, just an ep that I have so many thought about] - Haschwalth obviously dealt with physical abuse from his Uncle, but with the scene and voices here in the anime it's believed that he’s also dealing with sexual abuse. The lines “You can’t do anything without me” and how twisted the Uncle’s voice became when he said “my precious Jugo” seems to suggest as much. This reality certainly plays a role in Haschwalth's need to feel useful or wanted without circumstance. - We learned a few things from Kluboutside, for example Bazz-B’s and Haschwalths Schrifts are a reference to their friendship. Bazz-B has H and Haschwalth has B. We also know that those Schrifts are based on trauma’s and we see here that Bazz-B’s clan was burned down. (Additionally this battle was eluded too when Haschwalth was caught in Senjumaru’s Bankai) - As you said, whats interesting with Bazz-B and Hascwalth is that though Bazz-B proclaims that the revenge is for both of them, we never hear it from Hascwalth himself. It’s likely that Hascwalth actually had little issue with what happened given that he was being abused, but he was simply trying to help the only living person he cared for however he could, cause he wanted to be useful. - As noted by some, this friendship was always unfortunately built upon weak foundations despite that fact that they did care for each other. A point that always stood out to me was how Jugram said from the start that he didn't like being called Jugo (obviously cause that's what his abuser called him), but Bazz-B never stopped. This occurs because despite how much they cared for each other, neither properly took the time to understand the other. The relationship wasn't made on equal footing, For Bazz-B, Jugram was someone he was helping and bringing along his adventure and to Jugram, Bazz-B was a Bandaid for his Trauma. True Friends don't only help or care for one another, they must also put in the work to try and understand each other. - “Worth” is a Major theme here between these two friends, even when Bazz-B believes that Haschwalth has no worth in regards to getting revenge he still chooses to keep him by his side, but the reality remains that he doesn’t need Haschwalth, but with Yhwach’s arrival Bazz-B is made aware that the roles were actually reversed. This realization hurts Bazz-B’s pride and the way he looks at Haschwalth is the nail in the coffin, Jugram already felt he had little purpose, the only link chaining them together was the believed care for one another. The issue is that Haschwalth has a warped understanding of worth and relationships due to his abuse, for him “worth” is to be wanted and needed and a relationship must result in something being gained. Regardless, In this moment Jugram began to feel that Bazz-B no longer wanted, needed or cared him, and here you have Yhwach offering Jugram the exact opposite. [Personally I believe Yhwach used his foresight to manipulate this situation into happening, he seemed to know the best words to use and suspiciously let Bazz-B live when he destroyed his entire family] - Sidenote: Kubo tends to make a duo with this opposing dynamic every major arc, and they always get the chance to fight. Byakuya/Renji, Ulquiorra/Grimmjow, and Haschwalth/Bazz-B - Sidenote 2: I feel as viewers we are meant to think of worth and how people use it, how it affects the relationships between people, especially Yhwach and his followers or Ichigo and Uryu. [Reposted] #sundayrundown

Step B.

Fun fact: Bazzard “B”lack aka Bazz-B is Sternritter “H” the Heat and Jugram “H”ashwalth is Sternritter “B” the Balance; just another way they’re tied together as well as Jugram still after all that time kept the B pin on his sword that Bazz-B gave him all that time ago. You guys are misremembering some info; Jugram was supposed to be the successor until it was announced to everyone that Uryu was announced to be the successor, BUT that’s not what Bazz-B is referring to. Last cour Jugram explains to Uryu that he and Ywhach are linked and that while Ywhach sleeps his power goes to Jugram and vice versa as you will have already seen next episode

#SundayRundown Bleach TYBW To answer your question, the Licht Reich is in the Human World (pretty sure the mid episode card stated as much, but ofc it's not translated) what you are thinking of as a 'separate world' is the shadows the Quincy's decided to hide in after they lost to Yamamoto and the Soul Society one thousand years ago. Bazz-B's and Jugram's backstory we can sort of guess took place maybe 1100 years ago, maybe even more. Here Yhwach was still just beginning to plan his invasion of the Soul Society, this was also prior to the meeting he had with Ichibei (squad zero 'leader') where Ichibei sealed his eyes, since we see here in this episode Yhwach still has the Almighty. So the timeline goes sort of like this: Human World, most likely Western Europe: (1100sh years ago) Jugram and Bazz-B meet and become friends. Yhwach burns Bazz-B's castle and Jugram's uncle dies, Bazz-B takes Jugram on his quest for revenge. At some point after, Yhwach talks to his right hand man about creating a new combat unit. His right hand man seems surprised, since by then his empire, the Licht Reich extended for most of Europe and really they had no rivals, so what would they need one for? And so Yhwach here shares his plan to invade the Soul Society. They start recruiting, Bazz-B and Jugram have the issues we see here in this episode and Jugram joins Yhwach, Bazz-B later does the same. Here we can assume at some point, sensing the rising tension in the Human World, Ichibei travels to the Human World to have a meeting with Yhwach. Here, as you probably do remember, Ichibei tells Yhwach that they have no reason or intention to interfere with the unification of the Quincys under the Licht Reich that Yhwach was doing. Essentially he says, you can do whatever you want in the Human World, leave the Soul Society to us (Bazz-B's family was most likely a family of quincys in control of a sizable region, I can only assume Yhwach took them down because they were in the way with his idea to unify the Quincy's under his banner) As we know the meeting goes bad and in the end, Yhwach loses his eyes, the Almighty (but he gains the arm of the Soul King, Pernida) Some time later, 1000 years ago, Yhwach invades the Soul Society without the Almighty and is soundly defeated by Yamamoto and the Original Gotei 13. The surviving Quincys gather reishi around them and create a pocket dimension of sorts to hide in the Shadows of the Seireitei, which is now their own unique world technically. Hope that helps.

#SundayRundown Bleach TYBW So I want to clear up a misconception a lot of people have about Jugram I will let the great fans here explain other stuff about the episode (because I know many will). So there is a misunderstanding about Jugram not being able to use traditional quincy powers, many people seem to think that he never learned how to use traditional quincy powers bu there is evidence that he learned it later after joing the Sternritter. Yes in his childhood with Bazz B he could not collect reishi and make spirit weapons and use other techniques because he is unknowingly sharing his power. However just like Yhwach said, they are the same. Yhwach after learning how to take back his power was able to learn and use many quincy techniques. So Jugram, while being under Yhwach's army most likely learned how to use other quincy techniques and abilities through Yhwach. It is not stated but there are lots of scenes to check for evidence of this. for example; when Yamamoto was fighting, the whole area was burning and Fake Yhwach says he would have been dead if it was not for the Blut Vene he has, we can see Jugram was in the area meaning he has Blut Vein. Example 2, When Jugram was about to fight Shunsui in cour 2 we see the reishi gather around him when he draws his sword and also he mentions he was slowly absorbing reishi from Nanao's barrier. Meaning he at some point learned how to absorb reishi. Last example, when Yhwach absorbs The Soul King, all the Sterntitters around have a reishi sword each that they raise. Jugram has his own raised like the others. Long explaination but I wanted to clear that up. Bonus I am gonna cosplay Jugram in Oktober.

#SundayRundown #Bleach In your discussion i see you guys were confused on Yhwach power, how he can create arrows and why he’s so powerful and why Jugo can’t “take back” the power he provides Quincy around him. Yhwach. Sadly Season 2 Episode 1 did a condensed, non dialogue version of the chapter “God Like You” which speaks on Yhwachs backstory and how he created the Quincy race. Technically Quincy are humans that have Ywhachs soul in them that gives them their power. His birth and sharing of his soul created the race. Before that it was just The Soul King and him that were “true quincy” Also the Licht Reich was a location in the human world, somewhere in “Europe”, that was just the name of their country/army. I made a comment in the original Season 2 premiere episode that explains the opening, which in turn explains Ywhach backstory. You can read below “The intro for this episode is extremely important to understand a few things about who Yhwach is. This intro with the baby is a non commentary adaptation of the Manga Chapter 565. When Yhwach was born, he was born completely black. He could not hear, speak, see nor could he move. He had no way to survive, but despite this, even as a baby, he was never scared because he knew he would survive. The people he was born to treated him like a prized possession because they realized that when they touched him, they would feel a power grow inside of them. Severed limbs would grow back, people who were afraid would gain courage etc. Ywhach power was the ability to share part of his soul with whomever he wanted. While they gained part of his soul to heal or fix a problem within themselves, that piece of his soul would gain the entirety of their knowledge, strength and talent that person acquired through their life. He would gain all of that knowledge and talent when these people died. His soul would return to him and eventually allow him to hear, see, and speak and gain strength to actually move around. However, the people who touched him did not live long, almost like a curse fell upon them. Despite this, and them knowing it, they continued to touch him and praise him. In the visuals of the opening, you can see the outstretched hands are full of life, but when the red strings are attached, showing their new found connection to Yhwach, the hands are drained of life and become weak symbolizing Yhwach taking their very essence for himself. Additionally,Yhwach was not born with his name, but the people chanted to him because they believed him to be their god in human form. This God was someone they believed in before he was born. So he adopted that name for himself. That is what this intro depicts in a beautiful way. His angelic/immaculate birth to what appears to be a healthy mother. But then you see the hands reach out to him for salvation and thus bring him to divinity. And then the sinister red threads spread out and are connected to all those who touched him, his soul, draining them of life and cause him to be healed and grow. Eventually you hear they harmonize and call out to their God, Yhwach, Yhwach, Yhwach.”

Great comment. Also in regards to the "worth" convo, Yhwach says something like "I need you by my side", it was THAT moment which completely flipped the script for Haschwalth, you can literally see his eyes light up. This moment is also the first time someone validates Haschwalth, as his uncle and Bazz never really did, they both saw him as lesser than them. He was also indirectly (or directly if Yhwach did it on purpose) saved from his uncle by him, so sees him as a saviour type. At the end of the day, as you said, Haschwalth is just a kid who wanted to be needed - he was "needed" by his uncle, needed by Bazz and then needed by Yhwach - this also means that he basically kinda has no agency of his own, as you said he believes he has no worth and is destined to be more of a follower of others and doing what he's told to do by them (which is also why Haschwalth asks Bazz B what he should do when Yhwach tries to recruit him rather than think for himself), mostly as a result of his abusive uncle, which is pretty sad. (It would be interesting to see how he'd lead the Quincy considering this - he'd have nobody to follow at that point since he's the leader. Though maybe this is one of the reasons Yhwach appoints Uryu as successor instead, as he may know Haschwalth isn't suited for leading)

Im a day late and theres a lot of informative comments here which is great, but there's a couple of things that haven't been mentioned so far. First is the fact that Jugram kept the little 'b' badge that Bazz gave him, we see it in this episode when he unsheathes his sword. I'll email Penguin that little detail, its a blink and you miss it sequence. Also, Chris mentioned that Hubert looks like Captain Levi, funnily enough, Hiroshi Kamiya is the voice actor for him in the Japanese dub.

This episode definitely has AOT vibes. Loved this backstory

Victor Sanchez

When Yhwach first came to the village, he took away everyone Bazz B loved. He also took away the greatest villain in Jugram's life. When he came the second time, he took away Bazz B's pride. He also gave Jugram his pride for the first time.

#SundayRundown #Bleach i would just like to inform, thing that can manipulate "reishi" = "life energy", can live for a very long time (depending on how much they can manipulate).

#Sunday Rundown So the place that Yhwach was taking over Quincy lands wasn't actually a fourth world. It's just Germany a thousand years ago. Yhwach was straight up beefing with Charlemagne. You can also sort of figure out that it's before the first attack because a bunch of the skeletons that Yamamoto brought back to life after killing in the first war are there as living Quincy but it's a pretty small detail I only noticed because I overanalyze Bleach way too much. Also keeping in with Senjumaru's Bankai being foreshadowing for future fights for those trapped in it; Jugram's prison hell in her power was him being surrounded by flames, showing his future fight with Bazzard Black.

Bazz never understood Haschwalth. Everything in that backstory is Bazz not really "getting" what is happening with Jugo at any point. He doesn't get the implications of Jugo's uncle, he doesn't get that Jugo may have not cared or may have even been relieved when Ywach killed his uncle, he didn't get what Jugo was doing for him (unwittingly, but even so), and he didn't understand Jugo's thoughts and feelings when he was chosen by Ywach. But Haschwalth always understood or tried to understand Bazz. He even knew immediately that Bazz was upset, and why, when he was chosen instead and tried to redirect Ywach to Bazz, who was thinking that if either of them was chosen, it should have been him. Their friendship was effectively over the minute Bazz crashed out and tried to kill the person who was offering to save Jugo from the hell of a life he'd had up until that point. I think that was the point where Haschwalth realized how one-sided the friendship had been, in some ways and how much their paths were diverging. There was just no reconciling, and Bazz didn't get it.

I would argue that even though Bazz didn’t understand he still cared, in the end while Haschwalth wasn’t understood by Bazz he was still cared for. He chose the understanding of a good over the imperfect affection of a mortal. In the end Haschwalth failure was relying on a almighty power instead of a unknownable one. His lack of faith destroyed him.
