Me seeing GitS reaction: “Wait which one? 😰” Me hearing Navi say “anime movie reaction”: “Oh thank god 😮‍💨”

I was never a big anime fan and stayed away from the genre until my adulthood because I mistakenly though anime was nothing but power ups, mechs, and the power of friendship. Someone convinced me to watch GitS (Berserk as well) and from that moment on I was a fan of the anime genre. GitS made me re-evaluate my ignorant view of what anime is. You all will really like Perfect Blue. The movie was ahead of its time and its themes are extremely relevant for the modern world.

Perfect Blue is great, really any Satoshi Kon movies or series are fucking great.

Dale Cooper

Maybe they will get to it one day. I really love that show.

I would like a Perfect Blue reaction! Also if you liked this, i'd recommend Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It's a GiTS series that's a different continuity, but it's very good. In your own time or as a reaction, i wouldn't mind the latter lol. Also you should know that the manga and the anime movie (and the SAC series) are quite different tonally. The manga is a bit more lighthearted/comedic than either (especially the movie, which is the darkest of the three). There's actually a new GiTS anime coming out soon that is supposed to be more based off the manga! (cool ass poster of it - https://cms.theghostintheshell.jp/app/uploads/2025/06/TGITS_teaservisual2-scaled.jpg)

Redline is so fucking good man

The Matrix got a LOT of influence from anime of this era and Ghost in the Shell is one of the major contributors. The philisophical questions of self and identity as well as digital self vs reality self. But one particular part of The Matrix was a direct homage to GitS. The end of movie scene when Neo is being chased by the agents and he's running through the market, when the agent opens fire and the watermelons explode in gunfire is directly referencing the market scene at the start of this movie when Serge said "My Cabbages" as the wagon of watermelons explode in gunfire.

GiTS is also getting a new more manga accurate anime next year animated by Science Saru(Dandadan's studio)

MrInuhanyou123 .

Ghost in the Shell 1995, is objectively one of the greatest movies of all time. This movie specifically is what inspired the Wachowskis to create the matrix films, they were that blown away by it. And yes, westwold the tv series was also directly inspired by it. Many franchises have been both in japan and abroad. one of the most influential movies of the 20th century without a doubt. While this is the most well known and popular part of the franchise, all of it from the tv show anime adaptions and the original manga are very good and worth experiencing although they are different in tone depending on which one you are reading/watching

This is some peak cyberpunk, you can see it’s dna all over modern day sci fi. It holds up tot his day as one of the best anime movies, the scene when she rips her own arms off trying to open the tank still looks absolutely amazing the animators put their whole pussy into this movie.

I bought this on VHS years ago!!! Such a classic film! I can recommend some old school classics like Fist of the north star, Golgo 13, Vampire Hunter D and Bloodlust, Demon city Shinjuku, Ninja Scroll, Fatal Fury trilogy, Guyver Bio Booster armor, Wicked City and Project A-KO. Just to name a few for future interest.
