The Normies react to the 2011 movie, Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell. Suraj, Navi, Chris and Spidey give their review of this bad (?) DC movie. A test pilot is selected to become the first human member of an intergalactic police force called the Green Lantern Corps. It makes Hal Jordan the Green Lantern once he is given a ring granting him superpowers. When Parallax, a being who threatens to upset the balance of the universe, he must confront him. I don't hate this movie. But it does make me wish they would watch Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Easily one of the best superhero TV shows of all time and perfect adaptation of Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern mythology. I mean, it's literally co-created and produced by Bruce Timm, the mastermind behind Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited. That alone is enticing.

Totally crash! Everytime I watch this movie, it's hard to tell what it's missing. Maybe we needed to see Hal interacting with alien civilizations and struggling to figure how to properly help people, since he's Hal "Hot Mess" Jordan.

Aside from the pacing, one of the biggest problems is that Ryan Reynolds was miscast, something that his fans cannot, to this day, admit. I think it's because they like that one-note character that he always plays. The fact that the studio made them choose him instead of Bradley Cooper, who was the first choice, is a tragedy. Cooper could've sold even this dialogue. The movie would've been better if they had started this story with a Sinestro Corps War, in media res, and then caught us up. It worked with Star Wars.

#Sundayrundown it's a good thing we got this movie because before the Ryan Reynolds film we were gonna get a bad comedy green lantern movie staring Jack Black as Hal Jordan and the fans made sure that movie was never made.

The director is Martin Campbell who did some awesome movies like Goldeneye, The Mask of Zorro and Casino Royale. He was the director to bring in to revive a dead or non existent franchise. The problem with Martin Campbell and what doomed the movie is he had no idea who Green Lantern was or what his powers were or how they worked. He just thought the ring shot lasers and killed people. Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Johns was brought in to fix what Martin Campbell messed up as Johns wrote the excellent graphic novel this movie was based on. Johns fixed the issues with the ring and using constructs but the movie just had too many other problem, one of which was the casting of Ryan Reynolds. He wasn't right for the role and did the best he could. The studio wanted Bradley Cooper but Campbell wanted Reynolds. On the bright side Mark Strong as Sinestro and Temuera Morrison as Aben Sur were awesome casting decisions as well as Taika Watiti playing Hals friend, Thomas. The movie died a slow death which was a shame as it should've been better

#SundayRundown (& FUN FACTS, Suraj might like one aspect of it lol) Mark Strong as Sinestro is probably one of the best comic casting off all time. It’s so funny how so many actors in this movie went on to play other comic characters later in their careers. - this was movie was meant to have started the first DC cinematic universe, but due to the mixed reception and poor box office that was obviously scrapped - The DCU Lanterns show that’s coming out on HBO next year is being show run by Chris Mundy (Ozark, True Detective, & Criminal Minds) & help created by Damon Lindelof (from Suraj’s fav; LOST, The Leftovers and the Watchmen TV show)

I love this movie and don’t think it deserved to be as hated as it was! Yes, it had pacing issues and lackluster villains but it got so much right about the Green Lantern mythos. Sinestro, the oath, Oa, the Guardians being dicks, the enormity of the whole Corps together, etc.

This movie is underrated. Shock by all the hate it gets. Just like the amazing spider man 2. Some movies just don’t deserve the hate they get.

People trying to defend this movie, it makes every single bad decision a movie could make. I honestly think the only worst adaption of an idea from a comic book is Galactis from f42. They had the GEOFF JOHNS run allready for years at this point. They could have made this actually cool, like the green lantern comic book, and instead we get Thor meets a Netflix Star Wars rip off. This movie sucks, it’s offensive to green lantern fans, and probably the worse thing to ever happen to Hal, even worse than emerald twilight. Fuck this movie

They get none of that right😂 the guardians in this movie sucks, sinestro feels like a mustache twirling villian from the 30’s, with none of the nuance from the comics. And they don’t even properly use the green lantern mythos, they make parallax a fucking cloud ffs. To say the movie has pacing issues is an UNDERSTATMENT, the movies paced like The Room, there’s no build up of any of the themes, which is supposed to be bravery… I guess, even though that’s not a theme, it’s a character trait. This movie sucks and if your read comics and still like it your doing a disservice to Hal by defending it.

Guy Gardner comes after Hal Jordan in the most comic and adaptation chronology. He's the youngest of the three (hal, john, guy), and usually portrayed as the young inexperienced hot-headed jock type, which is why Nathan Fillion's casting originally seemed a bit weird. Hal is the first human Lantern to get a ring and join the Corp, although there's a magic based Green lantern before that, Alan Scott of the Justice Society. John and Guy were appointed as backups to Hal, not successors.
