SHAQ and the infinite grenade! Steel | Group Reaction BAD DC SERIES

The Normies react to Steel, starring the one and only, Shaq. Pat, Spidey, Suraj and Chris give their review!! The film stars Shaquille O'Neal as John Henry Irons and his alter-ego Steel, Annabeth Gish as his wheelchair-using partner Susan Sparks, and Judd Nelson as their rival Nathaniel Burke. The plot centers on an accident caused by Burke which leaves Sparks paralyzed. The accident results in Irons quitting his job. Burke begins mass-producing weapons and selling them to criminals. In order to stop Burke, Irons and Sparks create a suit of armor that leads Irons to become the superhero Steel. Kevin Grevioux, the guy with the super deep voice, is the creator of the Underworld universe (he also played one of the Lycans) and he voiced Black Beetle in Young Justice. He also graduated from Howard University with a degree in microbiology with minors in both chemistry and psychology. He was working towards a masters in genetic engineering, but became an actor instead. Really interesting dude.

A little backstory.......Kenneth Johnson is the director; he created the Incredible Hulk tv show as well as alot of other good tv shows/movies. Unfortunately, his 70/80s mindset was really the downfall of this movie, he took out all the references to Superman and other DC comic characters that were in the original script, as well as giving the movie a corny tv feel instead of a big budget summer movie. He was the wrong director for this movie and it's too bad because the movie was sold to Shaq with the og script which had references to the death of Superman storyline and why John Henry Irons became Steel. Such a lost opportunity, I mean the cast was great, Annabeth Gish (Sparky) and Judd Nelson (Burke) were 80s stars and Richard Roundtree aka Shaft is always awesome, heck even Ray J had glimmer of stardom. This movie ended Shaq's Hollywood movie career as well as Kennth Johnson's movie career. Johnson went back to tv and we all know what happened with Shaq, MVP and championships.

I cant wait for Catwomen (Halle Berry) and Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin). Also the first Suicide Squad is considered a bad DC movie.

My new favorite running gag is Suraj & Navi having seen a character in every DC thing they’ve watched and still forgetting about them lol. Add Steel to the list 😭. All fun The movie is bad, 90s corny but it’s fun for what it is. I totally forgot Ray J was in this movie lol; but Chris is right, the general audience wasn’t gonna see this after Batman & Robin basically killed comic book movies until Blade & X Men were released, it being low budget + a mostly black cast that unfortunately, at the time, wasn’t gonna catch certain demos.

Blade was a godsend. Before that the black superheroes movies were all pretty terrible. This, Blankman (comedy but still), The Meteor Man & Spawn.

Kenneth Johnson did the Fox TV series version of Alien Nation. It's far better than it has any right to be. Unfortunately it got canceled after a season & when they tried to do TV movies years later they just didn't have the same sauce. His movie credits are pretty much garbage..This, Short Circuit 2 & D3: The Mighty Ducks.

Speaking of Sinbad movies I saw Houseguest in the theater. That was a very quiet experience for a comedy in the theater.

There was some buzz online for it still after Blade II. I remember Snipes talking about being ready to roll for it. Never made it out of developmental hell though.

#SundayRundown Has there been any discussion about getting into the Timmverse? I know you started Batman The Animated Series but you didn't get too far at least on screen. I don't know how many people have already seen Superman The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League or Justice League Unlimited. I watched BTAS as kid. When I saw years later on DVD I was blown away by how good it was. I watched those other shows after that. I think they're some of the best animated superhero television that's ever been made. Voice acting, animation & music. Everything about them is top tier.

I remember liking this movie as a kid. Honestly it's not as BAD as the ratings would have you to believe. It is however worse than what I remembered.

They did a bit of BTAS but I think they stopped because of the workload and low views of the videos. This was a few years back.
