Artie’s line functions as a civilian translation of Tony’s criminal mindset. When Artie describes Tony as someone who thinks twenty steps ahead and instinctively calculates outcomes at lightning speed, he is unknowingly articulating the same predatory logic Tony explains to Davey in season 2. Tony’s “frog and the scorpion” speech to Davey is not about malice but inevitability. He exploits Davey not out of hatred, but because it is his nature to recognize opportunity and act on it. Both moments underline the same core truth about Tony, he cannot turn off who he is. Whether he is loaning a friend money or maneuvering within the mob, Tony is wired to assess advantage, minimize risk to himself, and rationalize the harm he causes as unavoidable. Artie sees this quality from the outside and almost admires it, while Davey experiences it from the inside and is destroyed by it. This deeply unsettles Tony because he knows it is true, but he doesn’t want to fully confront it, especially after learning about Gloria’s suicide. When Cousin Brian in the episode keeps calling Tony a great guy, it only makes him feel worse because it clashes with what he knows about himself, that he’s an evil person who cares only about himself and how he feels about himself.

#SundayRundown Oh man, Jeff Hardy catching strays 🤣 Probably the most embarrassing moment in TNA history & that's saying something.

It's fitting that Tony's starting to slide more into Livia territory in an episode that features Gloria's death. The thing that still separates him from Livia is that he genuinely feels the emotions and empathy, but at points he displays a pretty self-absorbed nature in regards to his coping mechanisms and at the end where he decides to write it all off, which is a bit Livia-esque.

#SundayRundown Love to see an Artie heavy episode. He's such a fantastic character. Just the perfect amount of pathetic that makes him hilarious. His Taxi Driver rehearsal moment in the mirror followed by his real life humiliation 🤌

Just a heads up Tony didn't know she tried to kill herself before

Well the Carmela thing wasn't really being nice it was a living trust so if Carmela divorces him she isn't covered by the trust anymore

If AJ had a older brother he would have understood and let him women are normally more territorial I've had home girls realized I had a lady over days later and I cleaned covers and sheets and aired out the room and cleaned as I often do

Just a heads up only Tony has a tab he's a childhood friend and the boss that's why Ralphie said no as a non criminal friend of Tony Ralphie wouldn't be able to beat Artie up because Tony would come down on like Richie beating up the pizza guy because he wasn't made it's not a good enough reason to kill him but he can make it harder for you to make money which he did to Richie for not listening and Artie knew that Richie just David not to gamble anymore to he catches up on payment Tony slapped him around Tony can hurt his childhood friend his crew can't

#SundayRundown This episode was written by Michael Imperioli ( Christopher) and directed by Steve Buscemi

#SundayRundown Artie is a habitual fuck up. He makes all the wrong choices. Someone that stupid should not hang around gangsters. All he needs is a coke problem to complete the complete idiot ensemble.

Veya

yeah, the characters aren't watching the show with us

Kwame James

They probably assumed Jennifer told him but she couldn't even if she wanted to

As much as we all hate Ralphie, you can see here he is a shrewd business man. He saw through Artie's BS immediately and he knew that if it all went South and Artie wouldnt be able to pay him back, Tony would step in to protect Artie. He wouldnt be able to outright take Artie's side because Ralphie is made and Artie is a loose associate at best, but as Ralphie rightly said, he wouldnt be able to treat Artie like he normally would his debtors and it would just mean a head ache in Ralph and Tony's already rocky relationship. Its a double win for Tony though, not only does he get his tab wiped at Vesuvio, but one way or another he is also going to get that money back from Jean Phillipe. I do find it funny that Tony got offended when Artie told him he knew the only reason Tony lent him the money is because he knew what would happen and that it could only end up as a win for him either way. Tony pretty much admitted this mindset in season 2 with Davy, when Davy asked him why he let him gamble, being his friend, and Tony told him because he knew that even if Davy couldnt pay, he knew he had his store and other assets that he could leech from, and that its in his nature, like the frog and the scorpion.

Artie was right about Tony. It’s simple risk assessment with him and it makes him look like the good guy in the process, which he desperately needs to feel at the moment. If the investment works out, win-win. If it doesn’t, he gets his tab wiped at Artie’s restaurant and he still gets his $50,000 back from Jean Philippe. 🤷🏾‍♀️ He only stands to gain no matter the outcome.
