This episode shows the moral quandry that people in this life face when they get mixed up with the mafia. It focuses on three people who arent in the mafia, but are mafia adjacent and are being ruined and/or corrupted by it. Adriana, Brian and Zellmann. Adriana is becoming a wreck since being targetted by the FBI and is doing all kinds of wacky shit to try better her situation, but nothing seems to be working and her relationship with Chris is toxic af but she doesnt have the strength to walk away. Brian is getting pulled into this world and is starting to enjoy it and Carm can sense that being around Tony and the crew is beginning to corrupt him. Zellmann also is going through it, he feels guilty after pulling the HUD scam because although he is a dirty politician, he is not a career criminal and like most politicians, he probably got into the job to make things better and over time became cynical and self serving. Tony on the other hand doesn't give a shit about anything and has no guilt whatsoever, because this is another Tuesday for him. Tony's act at the end was petty and spiteful. Tony dumped Irina unceremoniously and wanted rid of her, and as soon as she finds someone else, he decides he cares all of a sudden. Zellmann even spoke to Tony about Irina to make sure he was okay with it and he gave them his blessing. This is one of what I call a "despicable Tony" episode, and ranks number 2 for me on the Tony A-hole moment list. And Paulie really needs to STFU about Jersey business in front of Johnny Sac, he is causing all kinds of chaos this season with his chin wagging.

#SundayRundown I love how David Chase wasn't worried about fans seeing Tony as a villain. A young Vince Gilligan was taking notes.

#SundayRundown The great Vondie Curtis-Hall plays Maurice, but you probably know him best as reporter Ben Urich in Season 1 of Daredevil. He's also an accomplished director who did Gridlock'd with Tupac & the second episode of Firefly. On a more infamous note, he also directed the Mariah Carey stinker, Glitter.

#SundayRundown The TV show Adriana gets the marriage idea from is called Murder One (1995). It's a fantastic legal show from the creator of NYPD Blue. It was also one of the earliest serialized prime-time dramas. The first season follows a single legal case across the entire 23 episodes. Sadly it's only available on DVD or paid streaming. I think it's held up remarkably well, & I definitely recommend it

yeah it wasn't about the 7k. that's basically just a pretense for tony to spitefully get back at him and then he doubled down and still gave him a whipping. tony was being a bitch in the episode, that was the point. but the point is also to remember why tony is like this and the show has by this point, given us a giant well of reasons for why tony gives in to his bitterness. his choice of whipping also harkens back to his own father using a belt as well (he mentions this in s1e2). it could be a subconscious way to get back at his own father (he even says to zellman at the beginning of the episode: "what am i, your father?"). he also links his lovers to his mother so his possessiveness can link back to that as well. there's a lot of subconscious issues to unpack that could you could write an entire essay about.

I hate that I have to write this but major PSA for pet owners. First off, prevent your animals from eating string, do not let cats play with yarn, do not let dogs eat floss. It will seriously fuck up their insides, and if they do pass it, let it happen naturally. DO NOT PULL ANYTHING. Please pass this message along to Pat.

The TV show that Adrianna was watching at 5:05, Murder One, is an unfairly-forgotten crime drama from the late 1990's. And the series has a Buffy/Lucifer connection; D.B. Woodside is featured in season 2 as an attorney defending a homicide suspect. Murder One was his first major television role (he was 27 when it aired). Young D.B. can be seen in the season 2 opening credits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOsb1e7DxXs

#SundayRundown My memory of Tony's attack on Zellman was it being more graphic. It's still pretty disturbing & even though we've seen Tony kill before this feels like him at his most unhinged. Peter Riegert (Zellmam) was on the Talking Sopranos podcast in 2021. He said the scene was originally written with Tony pulling off his underwear & then whipping him. He didn't want to do that & James Gandolfini had his back on it which helped get the scene changed.

question for all normies: If you ever borrowed money from the mob and missed a payment what punishment would you rather have a beating or a gun shot to either the arm or leg?

Thee Chronicle

The Sopranos, The Wire and Breaking Bad are elite shows. Any chance the Normies watch The Shield to complete the Mount Rushmore of Modern TV. The Shield is on the same level as those shows and has the best tv finale/conclusion of all time. You guys will love it. No poll. Just to the old way of choosing the best tv shows you haven't seen yet 🤞🏾

You left out Broadwalk Empire which is just as great as Sopranos and the wire unfortunately it run on HBO at the height of breaking bad and Game of Thrones so it's not as popular as them

Kwame James

#Sunday Rundown just to clear things up a the 400k was money from Tony, Ralphie, and Silvio so they get that back off top they percentage I'm pretty sure is just the profit and they was even told it was a little less than expected and that they doing again soon

boardwalk isn't as great as the other shows but it's still a strong crime drama. there's a reason it's not usually mentioned in the same breath as the others. it does the crime/gangster elements well but it's lacking in human and interpersonal depth compared to sopranos and doesn't have the societal and institutional depth of the wire. doesn't have the same level of good guy to bad guy change as breaking bad and isn't as epic and sprawling as game of thrones. it's a solid hbo show but it's not surprising it's not as popular or acclaimed.
