La Chica o El Mundo | Pluribus 1x9 | Group Reaction

Pat, Navi, Chris., Marketa, and Spidey present their reaction and review to Pluribus Season 1 Episode 9 (La Chica o El Mundo) Writers: Alison Tatlock & Gordon Smith Director: Gordon Smith - Spoiler Alert - In the emotional Season 1 finale, La Chica o El Mundo (Spanish for “The Girl or The World”), Carol Sturka finally meets Manousos Oviedo in Albuquerque after his long journey. This meeting forces a collision of their conflicting views about the “Joined” (the peaceful hive-mind Others) and what must be done to save humanity from losing individuality. Carol and Zosia’s relationship reaches a turning point. After brief time together, Carol learns the Others intend to use her frozen eggs to create a custom virus that would make her join them, undermining her autonomy. Ultimately, Carol returns to Albuquerque, where she shockingly unveils an atom bomb. The finale ends on this cliffhanger, setting up a radical start for Season 2. This is my first time commenting on Pluribus but man this show was awesome, can't wait for season 2, I saw a lot of discussion online which side was better, but from episode one I am on team Carol/Manousos. I would be PETTY if my partner died or lost their individuality. like Pixar's Inside Out people are meant to feel a range of emotions, the happy and the sad, not to get too personal but me and my partner had a significant fight a few years back and it came to down to should we even continue the relationship or not, we both came out of it stronger and it's one of the best memories I have with her (also the makeup sex was incredible 😂) I'm not saying you have to suffer, but I think overcoming hardships or even having someone around to share the pain is something that makes a person who they are, and it's interesting to see how the hive simply cannot understand that.

I don't think people died because Manousos warned them first so they could prepare.

#SundayRundown Carol and Manousos are the new Dale and Brennan from Step Brothers. Carol: Did we just become best friends? Manousos: Nope. Want to fuck up the hive mind anyway? Carol: Yup! Season 2 is going to go hard as fuck! P.S. How does Vince Gilligan get comedy better than 99% of comedy writers and comedians?

They were just being nice about it with the peruvian girl, I 100% think they would turn you without permission, even if you said no, its been shown and said over and over, as long as its not invasive its not "harming" you, they are going to do it, with carol they would send the planes with chem mist and drop it from the sky the minute they can, I'm sure of this.

The Fermi Paradox is the idea in spite of billions of stars within our own galaxy that could support life and the high likelihood there are millions of intelligent alien species, we don't see numerous spacefaring alien races spawning throughout the galaxy. This suggests intelligent species destroy themselves before becoming spacefaring or there's a nearly insurmountable barrier or filter that exists in the development of life, from pre-life to advanced interstellar civilization, preventing most life forms from becoming widespread or detectable. The events in "Pluribus" have horrific Fermi Paradox implications in that once a species hits a point in technological development there's a high likelihood that an advanced intelligent species will receive a signal with the information for a hive mind virus, get infected, and have the biological imperative to spread the virus to other planets that have the potential for advanced life. That premise hasn't been explored much at all in live action media. Most know of Vince Gilligan through Breaking Bad and BCS however he got his start in the industry as a writer and producer for The X-Files. It's great seeing him get back to his scifi roots. Really excited for Season 2 in seeing how Carol and Manousos go about stopping a threat greater than themselves and humanity.

They absolutely think they are improving them by "turning" them. The only part they need consent for is the pain part to get their stem cells. They already dosed every human on earth without their consent, they do it, as Zosia said, BECAUSE they love them.

It's a threat because what human are, or how the show portray the nature of the collective humanity, It's the human experience that made the hivemind doing what it's doing, not a command from the “virus”, at least this is what the show told us so far. So I don't think it's trying to telling us there is a "virus" wiping out all the intelligent species.

In the beginning of the series, one of the astronomers stated a signal as powerful as they received would have taken an antenna the size Africa to accomplish. It implies most intelligent life has a similar collective being as humanity that has been shown in this series. It lines up with the idea within the fermi paradox that most intelligent societies destroy themselves. Most intelligent life with emotions, have creativity, etc. are probably going to be very much like humans.
