I like this episode but I can’t believe you picked this over Lobo

Denickart

Dan Turpin was modeled after the King of Comics, Jack Kirby.

#SundayRundown Intergang and Bruno Mannhiem were in Young Justice, like 3 episodes. Just like this they had weapons from Darkseid in Young Justice. In young justice his nickname was "ulgy" Mannhiem. Look up a picture of comic book artist Jack Kirby, Inspector Dan Turpin is animated to look just like him. Jack Kirby created Darkseid and the New Gods, and co-created Captain America, Thor, Hulk, the X-men and many others. He should have been as famous and wealthy as Stan Lee who he often worked with, but life didn't turn out that way. He struggled financially later in life and died in 1994. So Dan Turpin who already existed in the comics was changed to look like Jack Kirby as a tribute.

This is more important in the long run of the DCAU, the Lobo two parter is fun but in the long run only the ending is important for them to see JL/JLU.

Fun fact: Darkseid's first appearance was in the Superman's Pal: Jimmy Olsen comics in 1970, at the time Jack Kirby was writing and drawing it. So, technically, he's a Jimmy Olsen villain, lol.

You beat me by 15 minutes! 😂

#SundayRundown Dan Turpin’s design is based on Jack Kirby, his creator in the comics. Kirby was a legendary comic creator, being seen as one of the Fathers of Marvel starting in the 60s and created The New Gods at DC with the conflict between New Genesis (Highfather, Orion, etc.) and Apokolips (Darkseid, Granny Goodness, etc.). He created them in Superman’s Pal: Jimmy Olsen because no one really cared enough to stop him as it wasn’t one of their big titles, so he was free to experiment as he pleased. He later took those same ideas for New Gods over to Marvel when he returned and created Eternals.

Beat me by an hour! 😂

But Lobo though 😢 That episode had one of my favorite jokes in the series 😭

Ren Davis

Beat me by two hours! 😂

The benefits of having a day off today!!!

#SundayRundown Kanto's outfit is comic accurate & definitely has serious ren faire vibes. He's not a character that's been adapted much onscreen. He did make it into the PS2 game Superman: Shadow of Apokolips that was based on Superman: The Animated Series though.

CJ Dennis

Darkseid in the comics is a New Gods villain, but this show has made an entire generation think that he's a Superman villain lol. Also, y'all asked if Darkseid and Brainiac ever teamed up and all I can say is just wait 🤣.

Zeee

#SundayRundown y’all saw Intergang first in Young Justice. They’ve been in 2 of the Superman animated movies y’all watched & they were in Black Adam. They popped up on and on during the seasons. They would always get alien tech and use it against the heroes

#SundayRundown Great reaction!! Definitely an important episode and setting up things to come!! Suraj got me good as well with what he called the statue that Intergang destroyed with the tank!! 😂 Also yeah, Kanto wasn't in Young Justice though if there were more seasons I'm sure he would have been eventually.

Ludwig's Fishbowl

True!! Would definitely love to see them react to it some day though!! Even if it's after they do the rest of the DCAU!

Michael Colorado

Suraj saying DarkSide inching his way in here me thinking we'll if he just had lube he could slide all the way in

I enjoy the animated version not so much the comics version back in the 90's. It was a fun at first when they revamped him as a parody. Then for awhile he became massively popular & was everywhere. That's kind of around the same time I stopped paying quite as much attention to comics. I think is popularity has died down since then.

If you’re willing to throw in something extra for fun, I would recommend the Main Man two parter. Introduces Lobo. I just watched it and loved it

Quite a few first and set up that will matter till the end of the DCAU in JLU. -Bruno “ugly” Mannheim is the leader of Intergang (some of you already met his YJ version). He was introduced in a skipped episode, where he still had the facade of a legitimate business and got exposed because he was stalked by another Superman villain The Toyman (why Dan knows where he lives). Intergang were the antagonists in the live-action Black Adam movie, occupying Kandac. - First appearance of SCU officers Maggie Sawyer and Dan Turpin. Maggie would move to Gotham in the comics and replace Jim Gordon as chief in the excellent Gotham Central comic series as one of two lesbian characters with Renee Montoya. Turpin’s looks and personality is based on comic legend Jack “King” Kirby, who created/co-created many DC/Marvel characters. He’s the creator of the New Gods.

#sunday rundown Darkseid's first "The Animated Series" appearance had to be one of the biggest FAFO moments in any of these connected series. I bet Manheim wishes he'd stayed on Earth and gone to jail now :-)

Shockzz1234

Darkseid being first introduced ever in a fucking Superman spin off comic focusing on Jimmy Olsen will never not make me laugh. Just so so funny.

Shockzz1234

Be prepared for his popularity to (possibly) spike again when he appears in Gunn's DCU lol

@eric.na.goo.yen

“Metropolisha!” KILLED me 🤣🤣🤣💀

Gambit3838

Please, please, please make sure they watch ALL DAN TURPIN RELATED EPISODES. THEY ARE AN ABSOLUTE MUST SEE. IYKYK

Daniel Gonzalez

Glad someone said it Turpins likeness is based off the OG Jack Kirby himself in my opinion Lee gets all the Love but Kirby was the man

Daniel Gonzalez

This is my Superman I've always loved the character but never knew where to get into comics its just so confusing you can have a storyline go through several different comic lines and unless you read them all you're missing something important plus all the different timelines and realities this one simplified it for me he's a good guy a boy scout but he's also got an edge to him and we see it every once in awhile he's not perfect but he strives to be an example of the greatness we can achieve

John Hernandez

Marketa has some Benjamin Franklin looking forehead ahh
