My new name (he/him)

Kinda relieved the Frenchie is gone. Sorry, but I never liked his storylines. Karen Fukehara acted the grief really well, though.

Jackie Gibson

As always I save my final thoughts for the finale. But after starting so strong, the final season is a bit underwhelming for me, not garbage but not spectacular either, kinda meh but we will see. Rip Frenchie though his send off was great.

Jamaal Ellison

These two comments on X pretty much sum up my feelings about the season and series as a whole. Shameless ad for Vought Rising > Built up Ryan just to abandon his arc > Built up Marie Moreau just to nerf her Soldier Boy gets put him back on ice

Jamaal Ellison

The Boys Season 5 is very likely heading to a Game of Thrones level finale and its making me genuinely sad. This season has absolutely struggled with pacing, its struggled with writing and has frankly entirely failed to feel like a final season. Episode 7 is good in a vacuum, it has plenty of interesting character moments and drama but as THE penultimate episode of the entire series? There is simply no logical way to wrap The Boys up in a satisfying manner in one more episode, this has 0 feeling of finality in any sense so far and the constant cowardly writing that refuses to push the envelope properly continues to be a huge issue. The marketing, looking back with the destroyed Vought tower feels so misleading and it makes me so sad. Its sad to see one of my favorite shows that had a genuinely fantastic run with Seasons 1-3 completely fumble and stumble towards its end. Maybe they aim to stretch this plot out over The Boys Mexico spin off, otherwise, I cannot possibly see this show wrap up in a satisfying way next week. Whatever they do, its going to feel rushed and unearned. I don't think it was hard to make a Season 3 level season with multiple major fight scenes, and character arcs wrapping up, especially with how Ryan has effectively been written out of the show despite being the most important aspect of S1-3. I am just disappointed.

Silva Jin

Tbh its better than the comics ending so at least it did go in that direction.

Jamaal Ellison

Is it better that Black Noir has been shown to be capable of flight and able to tank a minigun, but he died via throat stab? Nah, son, bump that, bring on the Homelander clone.

Shockzz1234

Ibr, i do not care about Marie at all (in the context of the final season of The Boys, i mean). Gen V should have never gone in that direction, so I'm fine with her being a non contributing factor. The rest is valid though.

Shockzz1234

Maybe it's because I've lived through several botched endings and final seasons, but I really don't think this season has been bad so far tbh. I've seen what true hell looks like in regards to series ending, and this isn't it. It still has very good moments. Could it be better? Yeah. It is the worst thing ever? Absolutely not. Like, I've seen people compare it to GoT Season 8 and I'm questioning what drugs they're on, because it's not even close to that shite, this is still way better than that mess lol.

slimeball

Homelander most likely didn't eviscerate Frenchie cuz he realized he was dead anyway, which doesn't seem like a Homelander thing to do but the writing has kinda been all over the place the last two seasons

Vermars

welcome to the commodification of IP and the hollowing out of art for corporate profits

Vermars

He didn't rip him to shreds so he could have a moment with kimiko, the writing isn't bad conceptually but Amazon clearly took their algorithms into the writers room and stripped any creativity out of it, story beats by the numbers to increase the value of the IP going forward, which is backfiring in real time because no one wants that kind of content.

slimeball

well yeah in a more meta sense thats why it happened but that definitely wasn’t Homelander’s reasoning

Donald Moultrie

Fun fact, the guy who said that’s a wrap everyone during OH FATHER performance. You hear and see the the voice of present Mic aka Dave Trosko from my hero academia

Cheesey1

this season has been unbeleiveably bad lmao

Phil

Suraj when MM is having a heart-to-heart with Annie about how he got his name and how he feels like he's slowly losing his morality: 😴😪😒 Suraj when 2 goofy side villains are taking each turns sniffing each other's Butts: 🤣🤩😂 I swear bro has the attention span of teenager sometimes

Dabossman702

How are they gonna say the physics could just lie to save themselves so they wouldn’t die but then call Ashley a bitch for the scene with Homelander and the president when she did the same shit kept herself alive he would be able to tell if she’s lying

KMun79

You don't need algorithms to know that an emotional death scene is the best creative choice. Not everything is a conspiracy by the big bad media company.

HouseDogget

If the finale of Breaking Bad came out now under the hater YouTube/Facebook meta, it would not be considered universally loved. So many moments in that finale we gave pass under "Good enough". It was so open ended, we were like "I guess Jesse just got away or maybe not, who knows?" "How'd Walt even get a chance to kill Lidia? Well I guess sense he's a genius." "How did Walt just randomly find a car that had the keys hidden inside while he's hiding from the police." "Man they sure have concentrated and focused on Todd as a main antogonist, I wonder how he overall plays in the finale"

Michael Colorado

#sundayrundown RIP Frenchie. As I stated before, I don't see a scenario in which The Boys win. All of Homelander's loose ends are wrapping up: A-Train is dead, Queen Maeve is dead, and The Deep is washed. Starlight and Butcher are on the run with no plan, and Soldier Boy is on ice again, like Superboy was in Cadmus. With the first team member, Frenchie, now dead, I think the last episode will be a bloodbath of Homelander killing the remaining few. The last scene will be Homelander stepping on Butcher's head, breaking the fourth wall, and saying, "What did you think I was going to do, lose? I'm the fucking Homelander.

If you had told me last year that this was the penultimate episode for the final season, I would have laughed you out of the room. The whole point of Season 4 was that it was spinning its wheels in order to setup Season 5……….only for Season 5 to also spin its wheels 💀 This show made the critical mistake of jumping way too fast back into the established dynamics, which makes everything feel so samey. That combined with the writers only knowing how to setup and not payoff makes for a lackluster final season. I am not whelmed. Side note: Sage saying that she was absolutely useless is the smartest thing she has said all series. Love that for her.

Ren Davis

I will say more things happened in GoT Season 8. That’s for true.

Ren Davis

Before you know it, Peter Dinklage will come in for the final episode as Dwarf Boy talking about Ryan being made the president. Dwarf Boy: “Who has a better story than Ryan the Beaten?” Ryan: “Why do you think I came all this way?”

Ren Davis

Maeve is still alive. She was depowered and allowed to live a normal life with her girlfriend.

Shockzz1234

Well, yes, but if 90% of those things that happened were complete dogshit, does it really matter? No imo.

Ren Davis

In that sense, I don’t see a difference with The Boys Season 5 😅 One is just wheel spinning while the other suffered from having to truncate the complexity of the plot. Both are bad. But at least the latter is more interesting to talk about exactly why it was bad.

Cheesey1

THANK YOU SURAJ FOR BEING THE ONLY ONE TO CALL OUT THE NONSENSE THIS SEASON. this has been one of the worst final seasons ive ever seen. they RUINED kimikos character with those terrible jokes, they ruined sister sages character, they killed black noir after having him do NOTHING for 5 seasons, its episode 7 and the gen v crew has had about 2 minutes of screentime, and ryan has gotten about 5 minutes.... after both being built up for multiple seasons to rival homelander. solider boy got taken out the chamber, just to be a vought rising ad, then got put back in in the lamest way possible. NOBODY CARES ABOUT STROMFRONT, NO ONE CARES ABOUT BOMBSIGHT, WHY HAS SHELINE GOTTEN MORE SCREENTIME THAN GENV AND RYAN COMBINED THIS SEASON. ERIC KRIPKE IS AN ABSOLUTE CLOWN. also when annie told me marie she couldnt control her powers.....THE ENTIRE POINT OF GEN V SEASON 2 WAS HER LEARNING HOW TO CONROL HER POWERS. HE BROUGHT HE SISTER BACK FROM THE DEAD JFC THESE WRITERS WERE ALL IN THE WRITERS ROOM DOING A SHELINE AND DOGKNOT CIRCLE JERK

Ren Davis

Not really. People complained about those aspects back then. It’s just the journey up until those moments felt properly earned and climactic because it genuinely shifted the status quo. The Boys feels the exact opposite. Too much playing in the same sandbox because it’s too afraid to explore any dynamic outside of the comfortable. And there hasn’t been enough critical plot points to make it feel like we’re going anywhere significant. So it has the effect of just feeling like another Boys season, with the added benefit of actually resolving the series long conflict at the very end. But if, after all is said and done, the only thing different is Homelander defeated then we didn’t need eight episodes for that. Could have wrapped it up in a two hour special and called it a day.

HouseDogget

This is kinda what I mean. The handwavy moments were there, but they weren't blasted on a algorithm feed that hollows people out. There's this economy around hate, that if breaking bad came out now, your feed would be filled with twenty 50 sec videos about every nitpicked moment of the plot. As far the boys go, it's been a 7/10 season so far. I've rewatched before. Its been a pretty consistent show. You say that's a waste, but that's like 40 episodes of good to great Episodic television. With fantastic performances, heavy gut laughs, and some heart. I know people clown the bird story, but that's just because we're fucking traumatized right now. There's a good chunk of the country that's going through Mother Milks journey.

Ren Davis

Nah. Disagree. People didn’t feel that it took away from the enjoyment of Breaking Bad because it succeeded in other areas more than it failed. It’s that simple. People aren’t feeling that way with The Boys because the flaws are overtaking the successes. Again, people mentioned that back when the Breaking Bad finale came out. It’s just it didn’t affect the overall enjoyment from most people because Breaking Bad mostly fulfilled its promises. The only reason you feel that the Breaking Bad comparison flies is because you happen to like The Boys Season 5 like other people liked Breaking Bad Season 5.

HouseDogget

No you're still of ignoring my main point. Yes it was accepted as it was when it came out. I again am saying that in 2026 breaking bad wouldn't be as easily enjoyed by the public because the internet makes a hate ecosystem that didn't exist 15 years ago. The Boys is extremely consistent with itsself. I've rewatched the show, it's been very much the same show. Its just it used to be a critique about capitalism and now it's about facism. Other than that it's the same show it always was. The heavy issues people have with this season. Are things they built up in their own head that the show never promised to be serious about. Even Sage was pretty much a joke character since she came on the show.

Ren Davis

I’m not ignoring your main point. I’m saying that I don’t agree with your main point. I think you’re starting from a faulty premise precisely because you like The Boys final season more than the average viewer. There are still shows that are applauded nowadays. There is no indication that Breaking Bad wouldn’t be the same if it came out today. The fact of the matter is that fans don’t feel The Boys is fulfilling its promises, thus the criticisms are mounting.

HouseDogget

I don't like it more than the average viewer. Its at worst a 7/10. Im objectively looking at the season of this goofy dark action comedy that wears its politics on its sleeve. If you don't like the show that's fine, I'm not arguing that you have to. I am saying the echo chambers the internet puts people in, magnifies what's an ok season of a show into ",well this is the next disappointing". Which I'm not saying is coming from you. Its the hate economy. There's like one show that Got applaud this year and mostly because it was simple uncontroversial story of a knight in a fantasy world.

HouseDogget

Ok, it's pretty cool and story related. There's a chance Homelander will let you live if you're not afraid of him. Yeah if you piss him off, he'll do it. But Frenchie never had that antogonist relationship with homelander like Butcher or Hughie or Starlight. Homelander hates it when people are afraid of him. Frenchie wasn't afraid of homelander and even gave up his own life trying to hurt him. Plus the uranium does still make him weaker, and Frenchie (who has been able to lie to homelander before) told him Kimiko got upgraded. So it makes story sense why he leaves Frenchy to die a painful death before he get possible jumping.

HouseDogget

Has it been? What's been the worst part so far?

HouseDogget

Ok well 10 years of a prince that was promised story line that went no where, characters literally standing around doing nothing for episodes at a time. A finale climax that people could literally not see. Characters betraying principles theyve spent years building up. A crawl to an ending where Bran become king. There's pretty clear differences between a show that stayed true to itself it's entire run and Game of Thrones abandoning it's audience

HouseDogget

I'd say, every episode has great moments. Not even just one . Its great moments wrapped around an ok plotline. Which is what tv we grew up used to be.

HouseDogget

The deep is extremely powerful. Hes bullet proof, and can swim to the bottom of the ocean. So his force with a special Noir knife, could get the soft flesh part of your knee. Also most importantly. Black Noir II was an actor, he wasn't a soldier or even fighter.

HouseDogget

You know all your complaints can be addressed in the last episode extremely easily.

HouseDogget

Im pretty much having the same reaction. Its a darkest timeline thing. We're all kinda snarky shit heads living through a horrific time period. So if anything isn't just completely helping our soul. Its gets labeled "another failure like game of thrones". Its not real criticism, people are in their feelings and expressing it the way the internet has trained us to express it.

My new name (he/him)

I agree. I don’t think the season is as bad as most people say

slimeball

Frenchie was definitely afraid, dude was quite literally shaking in his boots

Jamaal Ellison

If the leaks are true, the season won't be redeemed, but I'll be completely satisfied. I've seen two different leaks. If either is true, I love them both. I've already seen people complaining, but I'll be satisfied.

Jamaal Ellison

Elephant, noir, 2 was bulletproof and he could fly. He wasn't just an actor, and unless that knife was made out of some ancient material from the deep ocean or some magic relic, it shouldn't have been able to pierce his skin.

SergeTroy

Sad to say, I was much more moved by A-Train’s death than Frenchie’s. With A-Train there was a full story arc with a hero’s death that was inspirational. I feel like I would have cared more and been surprised more by MM’s death.
