Los ninos is over😌🫰🏻

My new name (he/him)

It was satisfying to see Homelander turn into a complete cringe-athon as soon as he lost his powers. Really shows that he was resting on his powers and was deep down nothing all along. I do feel bad for Butcher though. Poor guy lost everything.

Michael Saylor

I dont even remember what happened to queen mave but for once the recap didnt spoil cuz she's no where in this episode also im disappointed gen v only got a minute of screen time and Emma only got like 15 secs lol

Sickleweed

Wasn't the finale I was hoping for, the season was a bit wonky but truly sad it's over, especially because I will miss seeing Antony Starr as Homelander. Hope he gets more high profile roles after this. Same goes for Colby Minifie who really won me over with her portrayal of Ashley. I loved Karl Urban and Jack Quaid's performances after them, but I don't think they'll have any trouble getting more work since they have been doing great anyway.

Smash Bran'Discootch

This finale was bad and they should feel bad 🤣 Some truly mind-boggling decisions. Like why would Starlight fly The Deep to a BEACH? She didn't know the fish hated him, so why would she take him somewhere she could only assume he'd be at his strongest? I do think Butcher wanted for Hughie to kill him, so he put Hughie in a position to where he had no other choice. I did like that and found it fitting.

Phil

Overall Mid series finale Butcher and Homelander going "scorched earth" was basically scorched carpet and some broken furniture. They couldn't give some budget to the final fight of the show??? Also what was the point searching for V1 when it made 0 difference in the final fight?? Finale isn't terrible by any means but still very disappointing

Ren Davis

Answer me this. Replace the White House with Vought Tower, replace Kimiko with Soldier Boy, add in Maeve, and what changes? Why couldn’t this show end back in Season 3? Ryan only lost his powers from the blast, so Butcher has no reason to turn on Soldier Boy. Just add in some reason for Butcher to go scorched Earth on supes and Hughie to stop him and voila. You have yourself an ending. They could have made this entire final season a two and half hour movie and called it a fucking day. Somehow, Butcher’s genocidal tendencies returned. The writers were so focused on what Clara wanted that they just kinda forgot about making a good finale. But there have been stranger things.

Ren Davis

You’re right on the money Smash Brandy’s Cootch.

Smash Bran'Discootch

Thanks! I mean im sure there are tons of people who thought it was great, and i won't knock them for that. Just a whole bunch didn't land for me.

Jackie Gibson

Ugh. Not in the mood to write a huge rant so here is a small one. I've seen some trash series in my life and the boys ending wasn't absolute garbage... But the overall season definitely wasn't my favorite 😭 season 1-3 was the peak for me before it started to fall off. Gen V was a literal waste of time. They could have and should have done so much more for the final season instead of setting up vought rising. Soldier boy is put on ice for future spin offs. The only parts I liked was the ending of Homelander/Deep/Butcher/Hughie/Annie/Kimiko/M.M/ everything was meh or disappointing... Also I'm glad Maeve didn't return to ruin her character. I still like the boys and the enjoyment I got from previous seasons doesn't disappear because imo they fumbled the pace and storyline in the end, ultimately I'm not really excited or interested in watching the other stuff planned for this universe. Still was a good show with memorable moments.

Armani 🐢

Its not an awful finale like GoT, but man that shit is disappointing. Homelander begging for his life after losing his powers was to be expected, but to have him offer to suck Butchers d*ck? Idk I just think Erik Kirkpe should put down the pen.

Rando calrissian

I liked this last season but then again im not some critic that looks for every single flaw in something. I just sit back and want to enjoy what I'm watching but seeing all this negativity online makes that really hard sometimes. I actually think some people go into a show or movie actively looking for any reasons to hate it. But this is just my personal opinion so just try to be civil if you choose to respond to this ✌️

Armani 🐢

"The Boys does action scenes great" *immediately plays an action scene with 50+ cuts in 60 seconds. Maybe I've been watching too much Daredevil but that was pitiful..

My new name (he/him)

I agree. People were too negative online. Just enjoy the show, it’s not perfect but it still makes some hits along the way.

Shockzz1234

I'll be real, I didn't hate this finale. It was perfectly fine. The season as a whole has been pretty up and down though, yeah. But the finale? Completely fine to me. Give Antony Starr all the awards that exist btw.

Shockzz1234

I've seen several people think that Maeve was gonna come back but like...why did people think that lol. She doesn't even have her powers anymore.

HouseDogget

I enjoyed the show as a whole. It was a pretty surface level message of Fascism vs Anarchy. One can't really exist without the other. The finale isn't perfect but it's good one that makes rewatching the show stay enjoyable. 40 episodes, would recommend watch with a partner.

HouseDogget

Well him being by water wouldn't matter either way becauses she's just trying to get him way from the group.

Jackie Gibson

Personally I didn't actually think she would be back, but strangely I think some people already didn't like how the season was going so maybe they thought Maeve returning was a possibility since it would have been bad writing and that is how they saw the garbage ending playing out in their minds.

Katra

I really wanted Homelander to stay alive longer to be humiliated and suffer more before being immediately killed off. They could've stretched this over a couple of episodes rather than doing so much in the series finale.

Paradoxhamartia

This finale was mid at best, imo. I'm lucky enough cause I've been having issues with the show's writing all the way back since season 3 (while it was still going, not only after the very dubious finale). I wouldn't necessarily say I'm a fan of this series, but I did regularly tune in since season 2 debut, so it's still a shame to see them ending on such a mediocre finale (and overall season). If I have to pick a single word to describe this ending, it would be "bland". Even the scenes where I was clearly meant to care about the events and characters, I just couldn't. But I really wanted to! Like Frenchie's death. He has been my best boy ever since season 1, but his final scene was so clearly tailored to be the "standard scene of a main character dying and saying their goodbye", that I simply couldn't connect with it. A lot of the scenes from this season feel like they are straight up based on some kind of default model out of a 101 Beginner Writing book. And if a scene ends up feeling stereotyped instead of genuine, the characters suddenly slip back into being actors, and the whole castle falls down. Tbh that's just one of my personal complains. Nonsensical pacing, main themes being dropped altogether (can a hero based society be functional? and what does it mean to be a true hero, anyway?), plot points that were set up and never payed off, completely wasted characters (what they did to the Gen V cast is criminal, smh...) and more. Since this morning I've been playing around with the idea of doing a long form video essey to talk about it, but there's already going to be a massive amount so I'm probably going to discard that thought. But even then, it would mostly be about how I would rewrite the final season, just to show that it was indeed doable in a satisfying way (even tho they shot themselves in the foot with the season 4 finale, knowing full well how they ALWAYS reset the status quo by the time the next season rolls out, and yet still tried to set up this strong shift in Butcher's dynamic with the Boys). I genuinely think they just dropped the ball and assumed "we're established/popular enough to be less meticulous with the writing". Still, it's insane for me to hear people say this was worse than GoT 8. Like, no. Mostly cause GoT came from a place of being "one of the elites", writing-wise, in its early seasons. Imo, The Boys at its best still doesn't come close to the seasons where GoT started having its first issues. GoT ended up suffering an actual fall from grace. The Boys simply became a (big) disappointment. (bruh I'm a professional yapper wtf)

Richard Kors

solid ending , just dont like how the superhero show who made fun of superhero franchises became what they were parodying , 2 confirmed spinoff and 1 possible

Pavi

Suraj talking about how sad it is that Terror died in the show, then in real life. Spidey: "Nah bro, Terror is just method" I'm dead

Paradoxhamartia

I'm sincerely in disbelief about how comprehensively mediocre (if not straight up bad) that final fight scene was. Weirdly shot and edited, with the characters' powers being all over the place. And it's very weird cause in they past the show has pulled out some truly memorable fights (like Herogasm). I wonder what the issue was, maybe they really did mismanage this season's budget.

PurportedGrey

Glad yall enjoyed this so much! Personally though, this show went the same way as Stranger Things and GoT for me, not as bad as either of them of course, but the same kind of quality decline as those 2. It started fantastic, but slowly lost focus over the last few seasons, and S5 ended up feeling really messy because of it. The finale still had some genuinely great moments though: Homelander’s plea for mercy, Butcher and Hughie’s final scene, Butcher killing Homelander the same way he killed the Black Noir clone in the comics, and even Hughie and Annie ending up pregnant, even if the “fighting crime while pregnant” part was really dumb. I also liked that it ended on a happier note instead of the cynical/nihilistic comic ending. But overall, the final fell flat and there's alot of inconsistencies from stuff this season and even this episode that's too long to list.😂 Overall, the season felt like Kripke and the writers were just ready to move on to Vought Rising. It gave me the same vibe as D&D, the Duffers, and a lot of other showrunners whose series fall apart at the finish line because they either lose the passion or aren't smart/creative enough to stick the landing. Also hats off to the people behind the scenes, this show just like all of these shows, always have a fantastic behind the scenes/on camera crew!

MichaelA

More of an office kerfuffle really.

BindingofNack

I just think its wild that they expect viewers to follow along to their new spin off show when Gen V had all the consequence of a wet fart. I mean the real viewership is a friend's we made along the way but its hard to not feel like Gen V ultimately amounted to nothing when it culminated in a cross country trip to Canada? Just why would any viewer be at all excited to see where this universe goes next when Vought Rising season 3 will actually just be a backdoor pilot to the Boys Mexico with each show serving as a springboard for the next until Kripke looks like a dried out SpongeBob, utterly drained lewd and crude superhero jokes.

BindingofNack

Kripke had an interview where he said Antony Starr had to reel back in on Homelanders character motivations as Kripke wanted to make him an "snl parody" of Trump. The show has always been a reflection of our lives but two things hurt them I believe, people are legitimately tired of seeing anything tangentially related to that orange man and they sacrificed storytelling consistency to do it. Seeing as how the final battle was essentially a copy/paste of the Herogasam fight its clear that the show was meant to end there and these last few seasons have just been gravy, so with a sudden multi season order and the reemergence of Trumps popularity (somehow) it seems they said "why not!" And pivoted hard into the parody to the point where it dominates the plot, I still think they did the parody well but it got to the point where this orange specter was hanging over the show constantly reminding you of real life and begging you to live vicariously through this show where the bad guy is taken down! It's all very cathartic but not at all the tone or stakes the show had set up previously (end rant, sorry!)

Cheesey1

This finale was rough, because on one hand, it was super rushed, and so many characters story conclusions were brushed by or just completely disrespected (gen v). But on the other hand, this show did such a great job building butcher and homelander up in the earlier seasons that their final monents were really hard to hate. No matter how terrible this final season has been, I think the show was BARELY able to save itself just because of how strong the earlier seasons were.

TrixieTurner

I really like the performances we get here especially from quaid urban and Starr, really like the use of piano man, but this finale just felt middle of the road lackluster. The action was mid most of the wrap ups were mid, a lot of the writing and dialogue was on the rough side. Even the stuff like wish fulfillment seeing homelander and deep get humiliated was kind of just whatever so it’s not even full dragging them or letting them go out on a full serious note just kind of flopped in the middle.

TrixieTurner

Omg the fight writing so bad, we see homelander laser kimiko earlier in the fight when she tries to blast him but when they’re holding him but leave his head and eyes completely free he dos nothing. He flew to space and back in three seconds but can’t fly out of there Lol.

SergeTroy

So glad they cancelled GenV over this abject failure. But oh! at least we have Vought Rising to look forward to. Should be a thrill to watch Soldier Boy throw a car through MM’s brownstone, and count the number of not white families Stormfront plays Palpatine with.

Adan Guzman

Regarding Starlight taking him to the beach, her goal was to keep him away from the fight with Homelander, not kill him. Even if he could summon the sea creatures, they’re no good if she could just fly outta there unharmed.

Adan Guzman

I personally was fine with Maeve never retuning. Not only was she powerless to face Homelander but she already had a happy ending for her character conclusion.

Chaos T

The issues people bring up within the finale doesn't change the overall satisfaction I have with the main characters resolution to their story arcs including Homelander's. It was extremely satisfying seeing him begging to suck Butcher's cock as a last-ditch attempt to save his life. A-Train was right in saying he was an empty fucking suit who was nothing without his powers. Exposing him to the world for who he really was is a better outcome imo than a scorched Earth showdown that overshadows the delusional manchild Homelander is. Also, "Scorched earth" is a tactic used in the process of fighting a war to achieve an end war goal. Though there are definitely exceptions to this, that tactic is generally not the tactic used in the final battle of a war between two adversarial forces. Scorched Earth is a tactic used to inflict major damage over time. When Butcher and Homelander met each other and talked about scorched earth in season 3, they were discussing the process getting to the point of their final confrontation. The path where both characters converged at the end was paved with A LOT of horribleness and rivers of blood.

Chaos T

V1 wasn't a powerup upgrade beyond immortality.

Ren Davis

I think the final shot in the comic completely goes against it being a cynical/nihilistic ending. It literally ends with Hughie and Annie embracing and kissing while the bridge that was destroyed in 9/11 is finally rebuilt. It’s the ultimate statement that centering your life around being greater than what you suffer and rebuilding through love is a healthier response than anything Butcher did. There’s much more of a sense of Butcher being a toxic relationship with Hughie in the comic. Even at his most sympathetic, you’re still reminded that he’s a piece of shit. I feel like they soften him quite a bit in the show and it hurts the overall point of why the comic ended the way that it did. Personally, I think they either needed to spend more time with the Butcher heel turn or simply write a new ending for him. Felt too much like checking a box solely to end like the comic did.

PurportedGrey

Eh, yes and no, Ren. The comic’s ending is fundamentally cynical even with Hughie and Annie getting their happy ending. Everyone else is dead, Vought is still Voughting it up, and superheroes are still going to abuse their power/powers while Hughie and Annie just live with the trauma. Even the sequel mostly just expands on their happy ending while giving us Butcher’s backstory. The show’s ending is way softer by comparison because Kripke seems done playing in the sandbox and rushed past the aftermath of the fascist regime we spent an entire season highlighting. Almost everyone survives, Starlight is still fighting crime/bad supes (villains some might say), the Gen V kids are most likely doing the same thing, and the only genuinely cynical thread left is Edgar taking control of Vought again to continue the machine. Otherwise, the show mostly acts like everything is perfectly fine now. That’s the core difference: character endings vs. thematic endings. Both versions end hopeful for the characters, but the comic leaves the world feeling still fundamentally broken and unchanged. Garth is essentially arguing that killing the worst people doesn’t fix the system because there will always be more corrupt supes left behind, to the point where it almost feels like the story validates Butcher’s worldview. (Garth being a cynical curmudgeon who thinks genocides a coll system change, what a surprise! 😂) Meanwhile, the show barely engages with any of it's fallout or hanging threads, which is why ironically I say it is less cynical, because it refuses to deal with the implications at all. Which is funny for a show that spent years criticizing corporations, celebrity culture, broken power structures, and Trump-style politics, the last couple seasons feel more like surface-level commentary than genuinely biting satire/criticism like the earlier seasons.

PurportedGrey

But Chaos, they made it seem that way with the dialogue and Homelander having a power orgasm at the end when he injected himself, that gave implications of a power boost.

Stephanie

Imo the finale was a bit rushed. How they got into the White House and into the oval office happened so fast. Although I liked that Homelander got what he deserved at the end, I think I would have preferred him to "win". I always had the feeling that at the end he would really lose it and just kill people like in that scene where he imagined lasering all the demonstraters. I also think that the whole religion thing was the wrong way for Homelander's path to the finale. All in all it was still a good finale. Not great, but also not bad. Not related to the show, but are you gonna react to Project Hail Mary? I would love you to watch it. It's a great movie.

Katra

Kimiko got lasered in episode one and was torn in half. I guess she got more powerful through the radiation?? All those fake posters of what would happen in season 5. Homelander was looking down from space in one of them, and one had all those flying supes. Starting to think that they took a lot of the budget from this show to give to the spinoffs planned, which I did not even know about until midway through this season. I just have no interest. Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, and now The Boys. These productions just don't know how to wrap up many story lines and have satisfying conclusions. The only guys capable of doing this off the top of my head are Vince Gilligan and Joss Whedon.

Macs

"Why couldn’t this show end back in Season 3?" its not what clara would've wanted

Ren Davis

Disagree. The comic’s ending is arguably optimistic because it doesn’t sugarcoat the world to manufacture a happy ending like the show leans into. It acknowledges the structural power of capitalism and the overreaching influence that corporations have. The idea that one good fight would end all of that power was never on the table. Hughie flat out says that Butcher was wrong to focus on supes because the root cause is still maintained: profit motive. As long as corporations see value in exploiting superpower for financial gain, the problems won’t go away. So he opts instead to leverage his own deterrent to keep Vought (now under the new name American Consolidated) in check. Garth Ennis is very big on the idea that absolute power corrupts absolutely, and Hughie’s conversation with James Stillwell in the final issue is the check on Vought’s power to hopefully prevent them from profiting off of supes in the military. The comic rightly calls out both Republicans and Democrats for empowering the military industrial complex and that even someone as charming as Obama didn’t really do much to rein in the MIC. The Boys’ deaths ring much more hopeful because it uses them to delineate the difference between Butcher and Hughie. Butcher saw them as stepping stones, purely there to sate his revenge. Hughie saw them as friends, people who helped him move past his trauma so he could stay himself, no matter how much Butcher tried to change him. This is why he writes their initials into the cement on the reconstructed bridge. He leaves Butcher out because Butcher doesn’t belong there. The comic ends completely condemning Butcher for his actions. The show, no matter how much it says otherwise, essentially always goes back to making Butcher feel understandable in his goals. He is the personification of “breaking a few eggs to make an omelette.” That’s much more saccharine and sanitized to the point where it presents the opposite message of what the show intended. That, deep down, it actually is kinda sorta maybe okay to be Butcher provided you take out the bad guy, and once that happens things will mostly be okay. As shitty as the comic is, I think Ennis’s conception of the ending rings a bit more true to the series and strikes a stronger chord than the whimper that the show ends on.

PurportedGrey

Nah, nope, nuh uh, no, not true, Ren! 😂 Joking aside, I’m picking up what you’re putting down about the ending! Especially with Garth Ennis essentially muddying the series with his own cynical biases while still landing on something meaningful underneath all the cynicism and nihilism about society and superheroes. I’m honestly curious now to see what old interviews from when the comic was releasing look like and compare them to what he says about it now, over 20 years later. But back on point, this is what I love about reading and media ingestion in general. Two people can walk away from the exact same story with different interpretations and still have interesting discussions without tearing each other apart over disagreements or minor misinterpretations. Of course, there’s a limit to that too. Some people miss the point so badly that they completely co-opt or misunderstand the themes and characterizations, like the MAGA and red-pill fans who think Homelander is cool or badass because of his actions and "aura" instead of understanding the satire (aka the meme potential) and character study behind the character. At that point, it stops being an interesting interpretation or minor misread and just becomes a fundamental misunderstanding of the story, whether intentional or not.

Dante Sparda

It is sad to say that The Boys is another show that ended in a rushed and disappointing way.

Ginzo

You don't have to thoroughly analyze the show to see the flaws. You just have to stop and think. In the same episode, we see Homelander fly a guy to space in a few seconds yet he wasn't fast enough to escape Butcher's tentacles. You also saw how fast he moved when he was chasing A-Train and when he noticed Frenchie breathing. Gen V? The serum we were building towards? Marie being the Homelander counter? Completely wasted. Kimiko said earlier that she admired that one lady because it was nice to see someone who looked like her on TV....Except Kimiko grew up in Japan and was taken in by some terrorist group. When Soldier Boy first awakened, he only cared about Stormfront. Then he goes and sides with Homelander because, "That's what Clara would have wanted." And proceeds to get put back on ice. Oh Father is seen using his voice to easily blow furniture across a room. Yet somehow MM is strong enough to hold a sex toy in his mouth so his head explodes when he attempts to use his powers. Sage has always been poorly written with everything going just as she planned with little to no elaboration until after the fact. And then there's Starlight flying The Deep conveniently near the ocean, not knowing the ocean had turned against him. Why would she fly the guy who is The Lord of The Seven Seas to a beach anyway? Because plot. Both Noirs were wasted potential. The second Noir is supposedly able to fly but he just sat there and let The Deep kill him. Remember when Butcher didn't want Soldier Boy to hit Homelander with his chest blast because it might hurt Ryan who was in the process of restraining Homelander? It's okay, the writers don't remember either. There's so many instances of bad writing that I could write an essay about it. In a vacuum, I could understand how one could enjoy season 5. But when you look back at the previous 4 seasons, and the 2 seasons of Gen V, you realize that 90% of it didn't matter. You only need to watch the Season 3 finale and last 2 episodes of season 5 to understand The Boys. The writers made every plot thread they were building up to in the previous seasons irrelevant.

Ren Davis

“…still have interesting discussions without tearing each other apart over disagreements or minor misinterpretations.” Nah. Fuck that. I’m tearing you apart!!! How dare you disagree with me!? It’s on sight! I WILL DESTROY YOU!!! I’m crazy 🤪 😏

HouseDogget

Nahh dude, that money went to a Melania documentary and season 2 of Rings of Power.

HouseDogget

Somehow his tendacies returned? The whole show told you that butcher was this person since he became an adult.

HouseDogget

Dude don't defend the comic. Hughie got mad at Annie for getting assaulted in the comic. Annie is gang assaulted by half the team. Butchers whole mission almost means nothing at the end because we find out homelander didn't even do half the terrible things we thought he did.

HouseDogget

Gen V works as a two season show because today's college graduates are entering a workforce held up by an AI bubble. Its kids with an unsure future being told they have to keep trying.

HouseDogget

The fact that people are still trying to compare this to the game of thrones finale is the biggest sign that the hate economy won and media literacy is dead. In no way is it the same. Jon killing Dany had the emotional weight of a wet fart followed by a dumb moment of a dragon melting a thrown. Compared to two characters that started the show together with a complicated history that in the end never fully gave up on each other. The Hounds hyped fight actually meant nothing because he's fighting a zombie basically. Compared to Homelander fistfighting two characters he ended season 1 with that changed the show from the comics completely. People are comparing promo posters for the boys new season to GoT's 10 years of fan theories and the prince that was promised. We didn't even get a satisfying death for any of the characters in the last two season of Game of thrones. Meanwhile we have one of the most cathartic moments of tv in finally seeing homelander face fear and crumble.

HouseDogget

I do need a solo reaction of Marketa reacting to homelander end scene

HouseDogget

You're over hyping the herogasm fight. It was also just guys throwing each other against walls.

Ren Davis

Yeah. And they spent a copious amount of time walking back that development only to have to ratchet it all back up at the end to justify ending the same way as the comic. I’m not giving them credit for doing a late game push for something Butcher already should have been planning to do regardless whether he had Ryan and Terror. They already set this up in the Season 4 finale only to immediately reset the status quo. It’s muddled and repetitive storytelling.

Rando calrissian

Wow you have too much respect for homelander he would 100% offer to suck someone's dick in order to survive. That was completely in character for him 🤣

Rando calrissian

My response half of the issues you stated is those are some incredibly nitpicking examples and who gives a shit. You are very much over analyzing it. Almost like you went into the season looking for reasons to hate it 🤣
