I always knew this day would come. In this universe, Batman almost broke his code but Tim broke it first

Narutoanime16

Yes! Other then Jason Todd being killed and him paralizing Barbra this is the most messed up thing Joker has done, least in this media he's done crazier things in comics. I love how Terry is as a legacy Batman he is a great character I prefer him over Dick taking the mantle of Batman.

Arturo Mauleon Higginbotham.Jr.

HELL YES! This was the first time I ever saw or learned about Terry and seeing old Bruce Wayne. Such a good movie.

christopher

ok so finally, after this its Justice League, right i cant wait for next week

SunnydaleClassof99

#SundayRundown The bump in budget is evident from the jump in the first action scene. Just some incredibly beautiful animation in the film. I remember all the talk online about the release being censored back in the day. There was definitely concerns the creator's true vision might never see the light of day. I'm glad WB eventually responded to fan demand. It's just a few small cuts but it really makes a difference in the final product.

#SundayRundown!! Fantastic reaction to a fantastic movie!! Marketta's "Ace up his sleeve joke" was great!! There was another Batman Beyond film planned but sadly the sales weren't good enough for this one to get it. What could have been....

SunnydaleClassof99

Imagine after all this time they just started watching Nickelodeon's Doug instead 🤣 People will get the superhero they waited for in Quailman!

SunnydaleClassof99

I don't know. I think the worst thing The Joker ever did was eat the entire population of China with the chopsticks after he stole Mister Mxyzptlk's powers.

SunnydaleClassof99

That's cool. I don't think that was an uncommon experience I remember seeing the original DVD all over the place. It's always interesting how people experience a show differently.

Shockzz1234

I can’t watch right now and will later but please someone tell me it’s the uncut/og version? 😭

Solebat

#SundayRunDown 4 Shows made up the Justice League and yall skipped Static Shock. There will be major events won't impact the way it should

Adan Guzman

Can’t wait to see Silver Skeeter 😅

Daniel Gonzalez

Personally this is my favorite animated Batman film at least of the old DCAU that I've seen Terry is my favorite Batman and 3rd favorite DC character overall after Superman and Nightwing

#Sunday Rundown Can’t imagine why Warner Brothers passed up the Batman Beyond movie pitch by the Spider-Verse production designers. Batman Beyond deserves better as an IP. Tweet of concept art: https://x.com/yuhkidemers/status/1759965713719235056?s=46&t=wO-da0wEVrXIT_GlznBwjQ I actually spoke to Will Friedle recently and asked him if would be open to doing Terry again. He said he would’ve before Kevin Conroy passed away but not now but would probably be more open if another Batman iconic voice took the role like Keaton or Kilmer but nothing’s set in stone. Had him sign a POP that says, “Let’s dance, bozo,” so look forward to that.

Jon Mercano

Btw there’s an episode where a group of Jokerz go beneath Arkham and you see a skeleton with a strip of cloth with a flower. Barbara here said they buried Joker under Arkham For Navi, Batgirl was only in the George Clooney movie and they definitely didn’t have anything going on. I think she’s mixing her up with the psychologist in the Val Kilmer movie who was DYING of thirst for Batman. Probably because they were both blonde

Shay

It's a 4k upscale of the uncut, so even better👍🏽

Shockzz1234

Nice. Can't wait to watch it later, thanks!

Adan Guzman

I think I missed that completely. Do you remember which episode?

Jon Mercano

2-3 Joyride. You can also just look up Joker’s skeleton in images

Jon Mercano

I’ve never heard that the Killing Joke movie was too dark. The most common complaint is a completely new Batgirl plot they added before the real story so the movie could be long enough to release in theaters for a limited run. Barbara is annoyed with a crime boss guy who’s attracted to her and keeps making unwanted flirtations. And it gets into some BatmanxBatgirl stuff. It was weird and gross. The actual Killing Joke part is pretty good

#SundayRunDown this I think is the best animated Batman movie. I do wish you guys watched more but I get that you needed to pick and choose for Justice league. Couple fun facts, -They wanted the opening of this to be like a bond film, where there’s a whole short mini adventure to start it off before the rest of the movie focuses on the main plot. - The directors of into the spiderverse pitched a Batman Beyond animated movie in the same style but Warner bros passed on it. -Around the time this came out, marvel was going to make a spiderman 2099 animated series, but due to his successful Batman beyond was, they retooled it into a whole new series because they didn’t want to look like they were copying Batman. -There’s rumors that the game developers of the Arkham games are making a Batman beyond video game. Overall this has been a fun series exploring my favorite version of Batman. I wish you guys did more but hopefully we’ll get more in the future.

Daniel Gonzalez

Asked our favorite part but I gotta say probably at least 4 the opening is great also the club scene where Terry takes out the Joker gang without his suit the entire flashback sequence which could've been its own movie and then Terrys final confrontation with the Joker where he clowns on him and completely throws him off his game and cementing himself as his own Batman for me he definitely earned the cowl in this one but the actual biggest sin of all is not having the original Arkham dev team do a Batman Beyond game in the same style it would've been so schway

KrimzonHawka

I dearly hope you will all go back and check out Season 1 Episode 5 Meltdown to wrap up another arc 🙏

real1

The animation kind of feels like an anime because the film was animated by TMS entertainment in Japan.

Ren Davis

Yes 🙌🏾 🙌🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 Been waiting for this. This movie really cements Terry as his own Batman. Like he said, he was never a Robin. I loved that he got his own dynamic with Joker where he had no respect or fear. He just saw him as a pathetic joke and laughed at him. Bruce and Joker may have this strange special relationship, but this Batman has moved………..beyond (heh 😏).

J. J.

Batman Beyond/Terry McGinnis would do so well with the modern audience but DC is too stupid to capitalize on it so we need to recycle Bruce Wayne every 5 years.

J. J.

#Sundayrundown Will Friedle (Terry) and Kevin Conroy (Bruce) had a very close mentor/student relationship off screen too. There's a 5min Batman Beyond short for the 75th anniversary of Batman that they reprise their roles in 15 years after the show ended as well if you guys want to check it out and both of them are in the DCAU Crisis on Infinite Earths movie as cameos and their final project together. Sadly Will Friedle said he wont voice Terry again after Conroy passed away.

Adan Guzman

They watch the uncut version and also watch the censored clip of the Joker’s death in the discussion.

Jon hansen

Pls watch the killing joke

Chris Barron

#SundayRundown I've been waiting for this! And yes, Killing Joke is a must watch, but it is dark.

Maurice Gray Jr

#sundayrundown Best Batman Beyond episode of the bunch and it's not even close :-). I for one needed to know what happened to the Joker- the Jokerz were NOT a good enough legacy for Baman's greatest enemy. This was a satisfying ending to the series. The icing on the cake was "Nana Harley" :-). Having her as grandma to Double Dee was a stroke of genius (that old lady tirade with the double butt smack had me crying laughing!). Ironic- after all her talk of not wanting to go through childbirth, she did! My head canon: she landed on a ledge instead of falling all the way to the bottom. When she saw her Puddin' dead, she cut and ran. I'm guessing she found herself pregnant with Joker's child and chose to embrace motherhood instead of continuing as Harley Quinn or maybe becoming the new Joker in his honor. And by doing so, she got the happiest ending of any Bat-villain whose final fate we were shown.

Shockzz1234

I finally got to watch it, fantastic reaction to a great movie. Probably my favourite of the old DCAU movies. For Joker's microchip DNA thing, they establish in an ep of BB that you skipped (several, actually) that in BB DNA/Gene splicing is a thing open for public use and that in this future it's popular to splice some animal DNA into you so you can get some animalistic traits. Sometimes these traits end up taking over though, so you become more animal than man. Anyway, Joker basically did that before it became popular and available for public use - he spliced his own DNA into a chip and implanted it onto Tim Drake, slowly taking him over like the animals taking over the humans when they do it in the future. Also, i think I remember the creators saying that Terry is basically kinda like Peter Parker if he were Batman, heavily inspired by him. And you can see that for sure, especially the last fight where he talks shit to Joker lol. Next week - the long journey finally reaches the promised land...the start of the Justice League! Can't wait!

Frankie H

Is the scarecrow clown doing a Christopher Walken impression? That's Michael Rosenbaum aka Lex Luthor from Smallville. The character growth of Terry from the pilot through the series to this movie is great. He's become a great batman. I love how Ace the dog and Terry did not like each other and are now best friends.

TrixieTurner

Oh thank god hallelujah and peanut butter we’re finally there after all these months we can finally watch justice league. I thought this day would never come. On a side note goddamn the Dee Dee’s really open up a can of whoopass, if someone kicks you in the neck hard enough you get air time that’s the sign to just stay down and call it a day.

TrixieTurner

The killing joke is a bit overrated but honestly the movie does it well, for sure worth a watch and you get to see how messy Batman’s love life can be. That’s such a key part of Batman you don’t see it enough.

Frankie H

Also Tim Drake was voiced by Cavil the lead Cylon from Battlestar Galactica.

The Normies

very cool! thanks for all this added lore!

Adan Guzman

I have to agree that the uncut version of the Joker’s death was the way to go since Tim directly shoots and kills the Joker which would affect him so much harder and would be reminiscent of him killing Bonk earlier in the film with that BANG gun. Poor Tim went through it and even after killing the Joker, he wasn’t free from his clutches and didn’t even realize it.

Adan Guzman

Thank you guys for all these episodes before getting to Justice League which I guess might start next week. I know you didn’t have to, but thanks for going above and BEYOND to get to know a lot of these characters before jumping to the show that will feature them all. If possible, consider checking out one more episode it would be Meltdown for Batman Beyond 1x5 which features another conclusion to one of Bruce’s old enemies.

Stan the Man

This really should’ve been watched after Justice League. The “chip” on Tim Drake that contains Joker is explained in the Justice League Unlimited Series. Has this crew watched Mask of the Phantasm? Cause that is straight up the best Batman film.

Patrick Boyda

*The Jonkler, but understandable, that's a common misconception

Zeee

#SundayRundown, between this and the views the first drop is getting on YouTube, you guys should just watch this show after JL

Kay Bee Baby

#sundayrundown Uncut was the right choice but I did like that you looked up the “PG” version they actually put some effort into that too. Easily one of the best animated Batman movies and a great way to close out Batman Beyond (just sad that Maxine did not get at least a small appearance). Also having Terry take on THE Batman antagonist and in the end defeat him by being himself and not the Batman Bruce was is just the thematic icing on the cake. It explains what the show never really addressed in three seasons. Why there’s no Bat family anymore, why Barbara’s attitude towards a new Batman and Bruce is very icy and why Bruce is a lone in the manor. Since only some watched BTAS the events of the movie have essentially been cooking since that show. It’s been brought up several times that the Joker has two “goals”: actually make Batman laugh and be the one to kill him. If you follow the show(s) you’ll notice that he fails at both and ends up humiliated by or in front of Batman several times, as well as Batman over the years getting really good at anticipating Jokers antics better and better. That’s why by the time TNBA/STAS happened Joker is constantly out of money and doesn’t even seem to have goons outside of Harley when “World’s Finest” happens. In “Joker’s Favour” the guy he stalked for years threaten to kill them both with a bomb to the point that Joker scream/begged for Batman to rescue him… only for Batman to laugh at him for falling for a fake bomb. Bruce/Batman openly mocked him and cheated him in a card came when Joker infiltrated a casino theme after him for an insurance fraud by a businessman in “Joker’s Wild”. In “Make ‘em Laugh” he drugged comedians just so he could win a comedy competition without competing. Batman stopped him and Jokers gets arrested his pants around his ankles while the public laughs at him. And in “Joker’s Millions” an old gangster that hated him conned him with an inheritance of several millions only to reveal that half of it was fake so he would get in trouble with the IRS. Batman caught him trying to steal real money when he could do anything thing to him for months. In “Beware the Creeper” Joker creates the anti hero Creeper by assaulting reporter Jack Ryder, when Jack as the Creeper hunts him through out Gotham Batman has to save him again as Creeper beat him with in an inch of his life. Like Justice League does later with other stories and characters from past shows this brings together years of stories and character development.

Michael Walsh

Several of the animators also worked on Akira. There's a behind the scenes feature where they explain that they wanted to "top themselves" in this. Also, in a brief scene where Terry is driving Bruce in the limo, it's a fun Easter egg where the limo is just the old Batmobile drawn upside-down.

Michael Walsh

Oh, and FYI, Harley is voiced by the late Arleen Sorkin, not Tara Strong.

Unstablebeast

So fun fact, both red hood, and Damian Wayne were created in the early/mid 2000s, so as far as the 90s animated continuity is concerned they dont exist ever, from batman the animated series in 1992 to static shock in 2001, tim is the last Robin, and Jason doesn't even exist because by the time the animated series started he'd already been dead for years kn comics

Annah Suarez-Domit

#SundayRundown I’m sure everybody else is going to have most of the other trivia but this is something I’m reasonably sure I’m one of the few people to know about this. Tim Drake’s wife, who’s only seen in line two scenes, is a direct reference to(and in the director’s commentary confirmed to be) Stephanie Brown. Stephanie Brown was Tim Drake’s longest running love interest and fellow superhero, even being Robin for a while before her death. You might recognize her as purple wearing side character from Young Justice that hung out with the Bat Family characters.

Michael Acuna

Now I wish we got Stephanie Brown in JL or JLU.

Matt

Are you guys gonna do some static shock episodes?

HalGLC

The most insane, dark, effed up, and compelling Batman The Animated Series plot....and it was in a flashback sequence of a straight-to-VHS tv movie of a spin-off Seriously though, well played
