As a child, Franklin gets in trouble at school for refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. Alton, who encouraged him not to, pulls him out of school and tells him that he will always support his choices. In the present, Alton implicates Teddy for Irene's death on a radio show and promises to expose him. Franklin finds him at his house planning to kill Teddy, and a vengeful Skully breaks in and is shot before Alton flees. Skully goes to Louie's hospital room, who stalls him until Jerome returns and fights him off. Alton tries to threaten Teddy into cutting Franklin loose, only for Franklin and Cissy to arrive, the latter agreeing to take Alton away and never return. Despite this, Teddy follows Alton to Havana and kills him. Havemeyer gives Gustavo information that confirms Lucia lives safely in Miami. Louie and Jerome inform Franklin that they plan to start their own trade and buy cocaine from him. Franklin visits Melody and promises to kill her if she talks to anyone about him again. She promises to never do so if he admits to killing Andre. He nods, sets his cane down, and walks away without limping. Seeing Suraj serve my fellow black folk in some hood classics (not save the last dance) was disheartening 😂😂

Idk why my comment got hidden but I’ll reinstate my point. I don’t feel bad for Alton. He’s willing to endanger his family just to become a martyr, and he’s only willing to die for the cause because he wants to make up for his failures as a husband and father. He may be morally correct about the bigger picture, but he’s selfishly willing to get himself and his family killed so he can feel like he died with a purpose and rewrite his own wrongs. Alton is lucky Franklin didn’t deal with him in Episode 7.

Chris was spitting facts in the discussion. Leon has every right to want to leave, F Franklin

And Franklin's not putting all their lives in peril by doing what he is doing? Let alone all the people he is killing, inadvertently and otherwise? Also, yes, he wants to do right by his principles, his ideals as a communist, but he's not acting solely out of guilt for not following those principles, nor is he acting out of guilt for what he has done as a husband/dad. He reasonably believes the CIA will absolutely get rid of Franklin down the line and that this was their only chance to get out from under the CIA's thumb without that happening.

Alton is a guilt ridden martyr especially after the fact that Franklin paid for the shelter. Franklin has the key goals of keeping his people safe and make money to secure his future, he knows the consequences so he takes the steps to make sure he can get out safely. Alton is trying to make up for the fact that he was a junkie alcoholic that abandoned his family for his addictions, damn the consequences. Alton and Franklin suffer the same sin. Pride, but Franklin isn’t trying to make himself out as a hero or revolutionary.

Micky, if Mel didn’t talk to the reporter at all, the only thing Franklin would have to worry about is the turf war with Manboy and Skully. The reporter was a huge wrench in both Franklin’s and Reed’s plans that caught them completely by surprise. Also if Franklin were able to contact Reed when he was in Panama or Nicaragua this issue could have been dealt with sooner. You have to remember that dramatic irony exists.
