My favourite live action Spidey film. Of all the films watched in October I didn’t expect this one to have one of the biggest scare reactions from Rana & Pat

Jon Mercano

Tom Holland revealed they considered a nightmare sequence where Peter turns into Man Spider, but thought it would be too scary for the kids. Cowards! It was in the 90s cartoon!

Richard Kors

a good one the end credits song by steve lacy is a banger

YC

YEEEES… been waiting for this, hope it’s a good reaction 👌🏼 was hoping Spidey would be here, wanted to see his reaction since the trailer reaction but maybe he watched the movie already

#SundayRundown I do get why people think there might be too much Spiderman in media. However I think what you need to consider is that we haven’t really gotten anything that captures a FRACTION of comic book Spiderman like this movie. And they don’t need to have it BIGGER. I think that’s actually the problem with the last three movies. There’s so much more to show of how it is to be spider-man that just hasn’t been covered in films. Like we have NEVER gotten married Spiderman. How does it affect MJ to have a husband who is, basically, a firefighter who has to risk his life on a constant basis? We haven’t gotten Peter at the daily bugle with Jonah and Robbie, covering something that has real life analogs. We haven’t gotten Flash Thompson, inspired by the heroics of Spiderman, joining the marines and being a disabled veteran who LOSES HIS LEGS and still aspires to live up to his hero. All of these stories have been explored in comics but not film. And that’s just a tiny part of what it’s like to be spider-man.

Thank you Normies for this unexpected surprise! I was fully expecting to just sit this Saturday out since I'm not a fan of your Halloween selection for this week, so you just made my day with this double drop! ❤️

It's me

As soon as he said "our mission is to redirect destructive energy into something useful", yeah this guy is evil

Jade

It’s funny everyone calls MJ, Mary Jane but her name is not Mary Jane in the MCU Spider-man movies. It’s Michelle Jones-Watson.

Step B.

Peter going to college, his tumultuous friendship and roommate situation with drug addict Harry Osborn, his romance with and eventual death of Gwen Stacy, his friendship with Mary Jane leading up to their relationship and eventual marriage. Movies never have the time to touch this stuff

Step B.

It feels like they wanted to make her Mary Jane as a twist then decided afterward not to because Michelle Jones and Mary Jane couldn’t be any more different than each other. At least comic MJ anyway

Jade

Sadly I’ve never followed the comics but I love MCU movies. So I don’t know how comic Mary Jane is supposed to be. So many things that I wish I did as a kid now that I’m an adult and 1 of those things is getting into comics. But I will say I enjoy this MJ more than OG MJ with Toby.

Jade

My family tried to call me MJ growing up because those are my initials too but it never stuck. 🤣

Don't want to watch master of the universe? Then give coyotes vs acme a watch. It's worth it.

They ruined Jean

Gambit3838

Does anyone know if they actually saw the Jean Grey after credits scene?

Popeye F

Yeah, but this feels more like an adaptation of "The Other" storyline from the comics, so I'm glad they didn't do it. I know that the Punisher was actually in that story arc in the series and even had to face Man-Spider, but this was best as is.

Enjoyed the Jon Watts trilogy but this was definitely a big step-up in every possible way. It looked so much better, too. REAL CINEMA. Destin Daniel Cretton really stepped up his game since Shang-Chi. He better gets his own whole trilogy!! I'm still sceptical about making the X-Men THAT young but let's see how the X-Men movie gonna look. Hugh Jackman's Logan definitely isn't a fit anymore with this Jean 🚫

Step B.

I mean the X-Men started out pretty young anyway. Most of them were teenagers except I think Hank and even he wasn't much older than like 20. X-Men Evolution is another great reference for handling younger X-Men characters so if they do it right they'll be ok. And honestly I'm fine without a Logan/Jean romance cause its always stupid and rarely if ever are the two of them actually interesting together

Step B.

I think something that holds these movies back overall is really that they're movies. Like Navi said having other Marvel characters show up is great (I'm paraphrasing) , but on the other hand I don't think they've ever laid down a lot of groundwork for these movies to work without them. Things that were long arcs in the comics or other media has to be shortened for the sake of movie length; Raimi movie Peter has been in love with MJ for years in that first movie, in the MCU Peter goes from literally not even knowing Michelle's name at the end of Homecoming to wanting to ask her out and take her on a date in Paris to give her a special gift and being in love in the beginning of the next movie. There's no time in these movies to have Peter and MJ meet for the first time and just be friends for years before they ever consider a relationship let alone getting married. There's a lot of story stuff like that and more that movies never have the time to tell. At least there's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 coming soon

Gaen RDN

"New Spiderman?" -Marketa "No it said new sighting" - Navi "Didn't it say New Spiderman" -Marketa "No it said new sighting bcuz Ned made that thing" - Navi "We can go back if u want" - Chris "It's Ok, I believe you guys" -Marketa. Marketa was almost gaslight if y'all didn't replay the end credit scene a few times😭 Also anytime someone gets gaslight, Navi is always on the gaslighting side of the couch😭😭. She might just be the Normies Gaslighter🥀. No hate tho

My new name (he/him)

I agree with Chris on the sentiment that Spider-Man getting overdone a bit. "No Way Home" was a good ending for me. I didn't need this movie and it was too depressing for my taste.

Why does Chris want money making franchises to stop trying to make money? lmao

I like how they presented Jean at the beginning of this and I hope they keep some of that tone in the X-Men films. I remember one of my favorite things in the comics was learning how each mutant manifested their powers and it wasn't usually all hugs and rainbows.

Maurice Gray Jr

#SundayRundown Rana did her best Pat impression with "New Spiderman new sighting?" instead of "New Spiderman Sighting" (only the thing the app says every time he shows up somewhere :-) ). Had the rest of the couch doubting themselves :-)

James W.

I started reading X-Men back in the late 80s and kept up until the late 90s. Back then there was no Sara Grey, or other Grey siblings that I remember, but X-Men is the pinnacle of retcon. They modify whole origins to serve a new narrative purpose. She is a welcome addition though and I really dig the introduction of Jean. One of my gripes with her character was that her whole arc seemed attached to her relationship with Scott or what Xavier did to her to suppress her abilities. Here she already has more agency and power even before the idea of Phoenix is introduced. Her line to Metzger seems more of a declaration of intent for what this version of Jean will be "The only hands that will wield this power, are mine." . Very cool and by extension I we get a Scott Summers who is more assertive and interesting as well. I think BND is now my favorite Spider-Man movie. I love Toby and Andrew but this felt so good. I hope Daniel Destine Creton gets to keep going; Wonder Man and BND have set a nice standard. Homie has had a hand in some of the best stuff to come out after Infinity War. It will be very interesting to see how that inhibitor chip tech is used moving forward. It won't be Sentinel tech directly but it feels like it could 100% a way to introduce Genosha and all that madness.

Just want to say that in the comic book lore, Spider-man would have been mentally crushed by Jean Grey, no Phoenix Force required. Jean is an Omega level Telepath, with more raw power than Charles Xavier, if less disciplined. It’s pretty obvious at the end that whatever was holding her back got absolutely shattered. The only thing protecting Spidey was Plot.

AHMADD

This version of mj is pretty close to the spirit of the character I'd say, she also has that snarky attitude that I love from comic mj
