2026-10-20 12:00 #SundayRundown: Love the discussion! Just wanted to share my take on Tony and Christopher’s increasingly distorted/damaged relationship. Chris is such an amazing, tragic character. I think Tony’s resentment stems largely from the enormous hopes he had for Chris as his successor. He wanted it to work so badly that he spent years overlooking the fact that Chris is, frankly, a grade-A idiot, lol. From his constant Hollywood distractions (since season 1!) to his terrible judgment and habit of saying the wrong thing at the worst possible time. For us as viewers, it's insanely entertaining, but for Tony.. lol. And then there’s Adriana. Tony feels he cleaned up a mess Chris should’ve prevented in the first place, let alone handled himself. Yet Chris somehow ends up resenting Tony for it, even channeling revenge fantasies into his movie. Meanwhile, Chris takes almost no ownership of any of this, convincing himself that the growing distance is simply because he “doesn’t drink with the fellas anymore.” And somehow he almost convinces us viewers of that too, lol. Such incredibly layered writing. The ultimate tragedy: Christopher was groomed to be Tony’s heir, expected to fill shoes he was never remotely equipped to fill. Ultimately ending up being Tony's biggest disappointment.

2026-10-19 18:00 That scene when Christopher sees everyone laughing at him is so powerful to me. You remember when he was hanging out with Tony and Tony B, they treated him like a joke and it really hurt him, he blamed Tony B. Now he sees that no matter what happens in his life, where he gets too or how much money he makes the rest of the guys will always see him as a joke. As entertainment. Also here’s a couple links to some YouTube videos one that relate to the sopranos and it’s ending and the other is a Sopranos skit

2026-10-21 09:00 #SundayRundown J.T. Dolan is yet another civilian that gets sucked into their orbit & pays the price. Almost every appearance we've seen of him once he got indebted was him being degraded. Even though he was another gambler I feel like he was a more sympathetic character than sports store owner Davey Scatino. J.T. knew Chris was in the mob from the jump & should've steered clear but at least he didn't drag his entire family down like Davey did.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the series' whole point is to critique how much audiences romanticize being a Mobster or living the Mafia lifestyle. I think the show's creator grew up around and near a lot of mobsters like Tony, Christopher, and Paulie and stated that these guys were complete scumbags. He disliked how audiences admired and romanticized the characters and lifestyle depicted in movies like the Godfather and Goodfellas. If you watch this show thinking you want to be like Tony or want to be in the Mafia, you clearly don't understand what you are watching. I could be wrong though.

2026-10-20 05:00 "There's so many thing that you can take from this show, that's why it's so good". Which is exactly why I'm so sad at the state of The Sopranos subreddit. Most times, when you try to bring up a discussion about an interesting scene or episode, the only comments you get are a barrage of memorable quotes. It's funny, sure, but it also does feel like a disservice to such a good series.

49:59 Obligatory Timestamp comment about how they at the end go over the scene again when Tony picks AJ up from the police station for attempted murder on his uncle Junior.

Ozark!!! would love to see y'all react to it!

#SundayRundown Tony is very much framed to look like the devil in the laughing scene, shrouded in his cigar smoke, sadistic grin, male-pattern baldness making his hair look like horns. The slow-mo people laughing shot makes a return (since Tony and Feech), don't think they used it anywhere else so far. Seems to signify a major turning point in the POV character's perception of someone(s) else. Must have hurt, being Chris, to see his mentor and father figure (Tony), his friend and uncle-figure (Paulie), and his professional role model (Benny Fazio criminal mastermind) all losing their shit at a very over-the-line joke about his daughter. Real lack of standards, this generation. Anyway, I am once again asking for your Deadwood reactions berniememe.jpeg

LSTER

Spoilers beat it. Don't watch these till the end

Hank Scorpio

The skit doesn't spoil anything at all. It came out in 2001 WAY before the end of the show.

Hank Scorpio

Part of that is because the sopranos circle jerk subreddit got shut down lol. Now a bunch of those people moved over to the actual Soprano sub and are doing their thing over there lmao

Brody Perry

Please do Boardwalk Empire, it’s such an underrated show

Paradoxhamartia

Was not aware of that, but it does make a lot of sense, lol.

Javi

One of my favorite episodes of the show, the characterization from everyone involved in this particular episode is all time

Yusuf Musa-Fari

Y'all have to react to Boardwalk Empire after this, its the only logical option. Please everyone agree 🙏

2026-10-20 07:00 suraj is correct about the comments missing nuance when suggesting you're supposed to JUST hate tony (literally saw a comment last week pretty much suggesting this). it's clearly not even the case when we look at THIS episode. tony is crying about his son and he obviously inherited a bad hand with his anxiety and depression and he had worse parents than aj, but also, his pettiness and cruelty are completely unsanitized and portrayed in a completely honest light. people have overcorrected with the show not wanting people to idolizing these terrible people, but the show never ceased to show why and how they are so damaged and most people with empathy aren't going to just dismiss that. as a note: two massive subtext that wasn't brought up in the tony and christopher relationship: dickie and adriana. tony doesn't just dislike chris because he's not drinking. chris even points out that he feels his relationship with tony fractured since the adriana incident. dickie was chris's father who was a mentor to tony and he's brought it up a number of times. notice how chris insulted him during the barbecue. remember that tony's dealt with issues with his own father. now chris is insulting one of the more positive father figures in his life.

Stan the Man

AJ’s character arc over this final season is something alot of people don’t appreciate. Somethings to notice: The song Tony was singing on his way down the stairs in the morning was “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd. Maybe that’ll be important. Tony giving information to the feds is a great litmus test for the audience. Tony is ratting. Flat out. See if the guys Tony was ratting on were white? The audience would be up in arms. “Oh my god! Tony is a rat! He gave info to the FBI!!”. But they don’t. Barely any audience members make a peep. And why don’t they? Because this was post 9/11 & they are middle eastern foreigners. They aren’t part of Tony’s tribe. Even tho Tony made money and did business with these guys. But because 9/11 caused so much anti middle eastern racism, most of the audience doesn’t see what Tony does as a breach of his code. Tony just crossed a major line and most people miss it because it’s for “terrorism”. Tony’s guys can go around, killing, stealing, beating, corrupting but some middle eastern men crossing the street with beards? That they can hand wave away and go along with. They don’t see it as Tony breaking his fundamental code of omertà. That’s part of what’s great about this show. Sometimes it can reveal things about the audience as much as it does its own characters.

BindingofNack

Id say either Mad Men or From would be the best choices for a replacement, From reactions would probably coincide for maximum hype for the final season coming up in 2027 though.

Adam Vialpando

Plus like, it's just been talked about so much. This show ended nearly 20 years ago. And it was an absolute phenomenon when it was airing. Even tons of things can be taken from it, most of it had been discussed to death. If you have a question or viewpoint about it, chances are you'll see at least one post for it. So what do you do when you've discussed a show seriously for 20 years? You start making jokes about it. Honestly, half the reason I started it was because every Mafia clip I find on YouTube or Reddit had at least one joke or quote from Sopranos on it.

A L

Please react to Boardwalk Empire or Deadwood after this is done. There aren't enough reactions to either show out there, which is crazy to me.
