Pam breaks down crying realizing she'll never achieve her dreams and everyone bursts out laughing. Y'all have the most confusing weird reactions.

It must be hard being in a relationship where you get no support from that person. Despite what you guys seem to think, those kinds of relationships are not always easy to leave. Especially if someone has been made to feel like what they want doesn't matter, then they'll internalize that thinking, which makes them think that they don't deserve anything better, and shouldn't want anything better.

It kinda seemed like they thought it was meant to be for comedic effect...but it's an odd reaction to say the least.

I’m here for this comment. My wife had previously been in a fairly long, committed, yet absolutely miserable relationship with a guy not too dissimilar to Roy. That stuff is hard to break off after several years, especially if you feel that ‘love’ is about making things work regardless of how bad they are (but you don’t make progress and just keep at it half heartedly). Add in childhood issues with confidence, a fear that no one will ever appreciate you more, and a deeply rooted feeling that you don’t actually deserve better and.. yeah. It can be painful to see someone keep themselves trapped (I hated seeing it) but it’s a reality for more people than would ever admit it. Perhaps that’s why, upon rewatching this show with ya’ll, I relate even moreso to Jim (his many flaws included!) and Pam, though I’m nowhere near as charming or handsome, etc and my girl is perfect. lol. I am positive that some if not all of the Normies have friends or family who’ve been in similar situations. Romance can be messy.

Well said! I do feel like a lot of people don't really realize how tricky of a position Jim is in. It's definitely not as simple as a "guy that's going after another guy's fiancée." He knows that Roy is awful to Pam, but what can he realistically do? He can't turn off his feelings, he can't force Pam to face her own feelings, he can't force Pam to leave Roy, and he doesn't want to stop being friends with her (especially because he probably realizes that his friendship gets Pam through a lot). So, while it's slightly torturous to himself, I think he does his best to just be there for Pam in whatever ways he can, and hope that eventually Pam feels empowered enough to leave her bad relationship.

Spidey and especially Suraj had a "good" reaction. I'm really confused with the rest of the group though. Always when it comes to Pam (and Jim).

Office has really good serious moments even if the show is mostly comedy and sometimes they even throw a joke right after the serious moment to bring it back

This. I was pretty sad when 66% of the group bursted out laughing in a serious, emotional moment.

Bob
>>93392485

omg stfu always crying every week cause people dont love Pam and Jim

Bernhard Escher
>>93392485

You don't have to love someone to not burst out laughing in an emotional moment. Go back to "Vance Refrigeration", Bob.

homie theres people who I know and hate in real life and if they started crying in front of me the last thing I would do is burst out in laughter. Especially if I knew that they were crying because they felt hopelessly trapped in a very unhealthy relationship. I have empathy which means I can relate to peoples pain and the shit pam is going through is real shit that sucks and I've been through something similar. It is absolutely wild to bust out laughing at that.

Jacob Castle

We've made the normies react to too much dark TV they've become completely dead inside to all human emotion.

Erich Bomke
>>93392485

Yeah, that was really a weird reaction. Its not even that the scene was surrounded by anything funny. Like it was a solid 2-3 minutes of real life painful stuff.

KimKaiRen

I've literally never seen any1 laugh at Pam's pain like that. Bruh. I feel that maybe being in a bigger group/crowd mentality might be an obstacle to feeling empathy for the characters.

KimKaiRen

Pam's situation symbolizes internalizing everyone else's expectations onto you and never living for yourself. Like passively going through life and finding the idea of change terrifying. It's something a lot of ppl irl go thru and relate to the show so much. The Office isn't all about comedy you know...

fr0st

Yeah, I really feel for Pam here, but like you can literally see in this episode that if she was brave enough to go for a few things, like take a chance on potentially a new relationship or a literal career opportunity that is also something she's passionate about, she could have much more. You see Jim immediately supporting and urging her to go for it without even knowing the details, just that it makes her look happy and excited, and then you have Roy with his being happy she doesn't blah blah blah at him when she gets home, and shutting down the career opportunity. There's never been a clearer moment of how she is in absolutely the wrong situation but is afraid to do something about it. And yeah, weird to react to someone being sad about their life and dreams being down the toilet but it seems like y'all don't really like Pam much anyway, so I guess it kind of checks out?

I don't think they are taking this show too seriously and that in depth

fr0st
>>93413581

Possibly not, it is very funny, but it's just an odd reaction to someone genuinely crying about how shit their life has become

MPH

You are right to cringe! This is one of the darkest shows ever. The writers clearly don't have a positive view of humans. That's also what makes this one of the best shows ever. It's Infinite Jest in sitcom form (hence one of the major characters named after the author). Enjoy and interpret the show however you want. That's the whole damn point!

Pleeeease react to the bloopers for each season. They're on Youtube and are like 10 minutes. It would be hilarious.
