When Miguel sees Sam walk past him in the cafeteria, cue Just One Day by BTS.

Not all martial arts is about self-defense and not all “offensive” first styles are inherently wrong. There’s a reason muay thai is the primary striking component of modern mma. There’s a certain point where the philosophy isn’t compatible with practicality. There’s a balance and merit to both viewpoints which the show is gonna explore. And johnny isn’t really saying strike first as in you start fights. It’s meant to be framed as if you need to strike, *then* strike first. The no mercy part is the actual thematic throughline of the season.

look i get it, kyler sucks, puchable face, stupid, yadda yadda but fish is gross. i cant blame him for that. wanting fishsticks tho? lol DUMB. its still fish..... just say no thank you and ill just be having water and salad or just water if salad isnt on the menu. cant talk with food in your mouth anyways

glad you guys like demetry. he is my fave of the cast and cobra kai crush. so jewish, so funny, such a nerd/geek, such a pessimist. HILARIOUS!!!!! sigh the hair, voice and bod are bad to boot. just whip cream on top. most people hate him especially in the beginning calling him annoying and i cant see it. he is cool to me

rickie woodson

that is an INSULT to robbie. chala-AINT could NEVAH

this is how black people in my area ask that question of each other: so where are your people from? vs where are you from.

They really should’ve asked about dietary restrictions when serving raw fish to a first time guest lol. I like that small myopia in daniel though, in that it seemed like he projected his openness to that stuff onto a stranger. A nice little touch to the character.

Johnny's philosophy is effective for real world situations.

Captain K'nuckles

Not sure why Suraj thinks Daniel would automatically be able to whoop Johnny considering during their last fight Daniel only won because of an illegal kick and Mr. Miyagi's magic healing powers

I know its been said but Navi is just wrong sorry, one philosophy for karate is not all of them also the strike first strike hard is a life style as well which you saw starting to work in a good way it gave miguel the confidence to at least try to approach Sam, its not bad its just how you interpret it

Macs

The where are you from? question is interesting, I get asked that question for a different reason I'm white but I spent my childhood in india so I have an accent, it use to be much stronger but it has faded, I still get asked where I'm from, which I say "I grew up in india thats why I've got a bit of an accent". I use to say I'd just record that line and play it for people because anytime I meet someone new/start a new job etc, that question will inevitably come up, as kid when I moved back it would annoy me but now its just funny for me knowing the question is coming and all the different ways people try and ask while also trying to avoid being offensive. I know its not the same thing but just how you guys described the ways people are round about asking where your from reminded me of that.

Because Johnny looks really haggard and seemingly damaged by years of heavy drinking, partying, etc.

And daniel packed all of his gear away and is a full time owner of a business. It seems like he’s just going off the result of the movies but the person above is right, daniel barely ecked out a win. Their fight would be a lot more even.

Nikhil Bogineni

The term martial art comes from fighting techniques used in times of war which Karate is specifically from and originated from, sure now a lot of karate practitioners practice the rule that it is for self defence only which is great cause no kids are really at war but it did originate from this strike first strike hard no mercy mentality. So learning that aspect of it is not really a bad thing. Its just about how people use it and balance their lives.

He was also able to beat the shit out of several teenagers who outnumbered him

Because Daniel was the protagonist of the movies, duh. Relax bud.
