fun fact. thugnifacent was based off of ludacris. Heck ludacris was supposed to voice him but Luda wasn't interested.

(Wrote this ahead of time cause I’m one of those types Chris mentioned who won’t stop talking about this show 💀) TLDR; Logan Roy (the father) has a lot in common with Tywin Lannister, he doesn’t trust his kids with the legacy he created and is disappointed in them. He not only holds them to an incredibly high standard but encourages them to backstab and do anything to gain power (as well as his favor) We see right away that this billionaire family who runs Waystar (conglomerate that controls this universe’s version of Fox News) are totally removed from reality. Like the Kennedys and Murdochs they have a family name that has power and expectations attached to it. Their family drama directly impacts society (A main recurring theme is established in this episode: words mean NOTHING to these characters. They will say whatever to anyone to get what they want) This episode is really just a microcosm of the kids lives, they haven’t been allowed to be a family. They’re just people who are related, chasing daddy’s throne Think the slow zoom out of NYC at the end of the episode was to show the power that Logan has, his kids are fighting for control of an evil media empire that shapes the world A Succession “book club” is on my bucket list, y’all got me hype af

if they’d gotten ludacris they’d have all the best mid 2000s Atlanta rappers on the show 🥲

Bruh if y’all gonna watch The Boondocks can y’all please stop being so sensitive about it lmao it’s clearly supposed to be parody. Yes it speaks on some real stuff and has some truth in the jokes but like it’s ok to laugh at it lmao. That’s what’s genius about it, it makes you think and laugh at the same time. Nobody is gonna think y’all rayyycist or wrong for enjoying the show 😂🤣

#SundayRundown Succession showrunner Armstrong first wanted to make a movie about the Murdoch family, founders and owners of News Corp and 21st Century Fox, but no publishers picked it up. He switched it to a TV series instead and based it loosely on Rupert Murdoch, the Maxwells, and the Redstones all owners/founders of giant media conglomerates that still exist today. Can't wait for Pat and Micky to join you guys.

Double drop office for premium subscribers please. We deserve it at least once a month.

Wow surprised Succession is on here i thought it lost to Harley Quinn. Finally a super quality show (no offense to some of the others a number of which i enjoy a lot), but this is a GOAT show on the same pantheon as Sopranos, Wire, Breaking Bad etc. It’s a deceptively shakespearean show, even if the premise doesn’t really hide it. But i think the tone and satirical nature can muddle it at times. It’s gonna be really interesting watching them, especially Chris who could barely tolerate Dwight or Angela react to truly awful but nuanced and complex characters. Also yeah, the billionaire take is about what I expected but I’m more with Suraj on this point that it likely isn’t as simplistic as simply throwing money at everything and everything would be solved. In some cases it probably is, in others, i doubt it. People have tried to donate massive amounts to poor places and stuff like local politics and warlords get in the way. It’s a giant mess.

We don't "deserve" it, but this would have been the best week for a double drop.

You sold me. I'm a TV and movie snob, but you seem to care about nuance, depth, and having something to say. I thought succession was some GoT-like nonsense, but I'm gonna give it a shot because your analysis seems intelligent. Also, I'm a sucker for Sopranos and Mad Men-type shows.

Infinite tsukuyomi (he him)

Great first reaction Normies! In response to why billionaires don’t solve world problems I honestly think it takes more than a billion dollars to truly tackle problems like world hunger, homelessness, and the like. Of course you can always make small steps I mean everyone can make small contributions.

Morgan Le Fay

Yay, Succession!! I’m only on S3, but it’s so good. Looking forward to hearing how the opinions change throughout.

Governments being incompetent at implementing policy is a big reason why billionaires throwing money at problems won't have the intended impact.

rickie woodson

why is thugnificent's lightskin boyfriend so fine?????? reminds me of taboo of black eyed peas.........thugnificent's hair is FLY!

Mzuka

Succession! #SundayRundown Romulus isn't his real name, Roman is. Romulus is Logan's nickname for him.

it wasnt that late at night, maybe 1am? me and some neighbors were outside chilling and this woman and her man were outside (she had this BIG ass dog) and she was accusing him of cheating. she was reading him for FILTH! i was like "yaaaaaaaasss thats all they want girl! just fake phone bitches not flesh and blood real ones" lol i can so relate to what she was saying lol. then she threatened to sic the dog on him so i had to leave cause i didnt want to be a witness to a crime. i dont get involved lol

@MPH the series deserves its praise and accolades it has received. "Succession" is great at achieving both really good drama and very dark comedy. Veya what get's lost in the "billionaire can fix everything" conversation is it takes two to dance as governments play a huge role in the conversation. Politics are what comes out of the asshole but government systems own the horse stable.
