I find Gabi to be one of the most compelling and well written characters in AoT. Even if she is a ideologically brain washed and violent child soldier. In fact, I would go as far as to say that a character like her has to exist in order to address one of the major themes in AoT which the cycle of violence and how it is fueled by constant recrimination over past historical events. Also you are right about the direction of the plot. IMHO, a good one word description for the direction it is heading is, "escalation". And props to the people watching along as you stream AoT they are doing a good job at answering your questions without spoiling. I can't wait for the next 2 episodes.

6:19 -- Sasha's parents speak in a particular dialect. In the English translation that dialect is rendered as a variation on the "Southern drawl". Note also that in the episode 2x2 we find out that while Sasha was being on her military training she was trying to speak in a more formal language in order to hide her native accent.

9:29 -- Note how at this moment Conny dosn't face forwards, but sideways and looking upward. We all know that Conny was a very close friend to Sasha (you can find several examples of this throughout the series -- a good example is a scene in the Season 2 opening where Sasha helps Conny to put on his ODM gear), so it's reasonable to assume that Conny was often accompaigning Sasha when she was coming to this restaurant to enjoy Niccolo's cooking. His somewhat odd behavior here, therefore, might be related to his familiarity with this room.

Regarding the southern accents, it's really just an approximation of a Japanese dialect that they view in a similar light to how a lot of English speakers tend to view the southern accent in that they're kinda country bumpkins. I don't think it actually sounds like that at all, it's just the easy way for the translation to convey it. I've definitely seen series where people get made fun of for their accent but the translation makes no effort to convey the accent otherwise and you can't even really tell. I don't think it does directly translate so they just use what English speakers would approximate to it. You probably won't see this almost a year later but just in case that's the answer
