Original Sin is complete filler and irrelevant to the Dexter series imo. I somewhat enjoyed watching it as it released but I strongly felt the plot was not good bc none of it was referenced in Dexter (aside from the recreations of the scenes). Tom might get some entertainment out of it but there is a reason it got cancelled during filming of season 2. The entire season was pretty much the Harry-flashback show leaving several episodes where you're asking "When is Dexter's mom finally going to die"

I concur with you that the tale opened our eyes further on the Morgan and Moser’s family tragedies and gave Brian’s situation more depth and a sympathetic look compared to how he was presented in the original series, which emphasized the fact that while he was indeed responsible for his eventual choices, the external factors constituting what he became didn’t end with Laura’s murder.

It got cancelled because they wanted to focus on Resurrection, not because the show itself was unsuccessful. It had actually been renewed already and was only cancelled after a merger and review by new leadership.

Well still they had so many plot holes which were just wrong. For example: Vogel. The writers basically admitted that they messed up, as they didn't really have an answer for why she was missing ^^ Though timeline wise she would have had to be there. I still enjoyed it but I would have also been fine with 50 year old Michael C. Hall wearing a damn wig as they did in the original series lol :D
