amazing reaction like always. I'm so happy you did this song its one of my favorites from the album and one that I relate to the most. There's a few different lines I want to talk about here. "I'm tired of tending to this fire" goes with the line "in time I will leave the city, for now I will stay alive". The line "I'm tired of tending to this fire" part is like I'm close to giving up. essentially saying I'm not going to end my life which is what vialism is about (the religion in Dema where the end goal is to die by suicide) . "in time I will leave the city, for now I will stay alive" to me that line is referencing Dema (the dark parts of our mind) so in time I will leave the city means in time i will die. That's inevitable so I'm going to keep fighting until my time comes. "But this year, though I'm far from home In Trench, I'm not alone These faces facing me They know... They know... What I mean" is his way of acknowledging the banditos (us fans) the "faces facing me" are fans watching him and Josh at their shows. We know what the lore means and the meaning behind their music. Also one thing I love about this song is when they played it live Tyler would have the fans sing "in time I will leave the city, for now I will stay alive" first then he will sing it back to them I look at that as him having us promise to him we'll keep fighting and then he promises us the same. "In Trench I'm not alone" that line is just saying we are never alone our fellow banditos are there to support us and so is TOPs music. I know this is a lot but I hope it all makes sense. Here's a link to the live version I was talking about as well https://youtu.be/Jx7737548yk

I think you pretty much nailed it. The city is Dema and even though it's his depression and anxiety there is a feeling of being safe because it's what he knows. As for the last part of the song. The album Blurryface blew them up. They went from being doing small venues and opening to selling out places overnight. After the last tour for Blurryface they went on a hiatus. They (especially Tyler) dropped off the face of the map. He was completely silent from all social media for like 2 yrs. They even blurred his picture on family photos that were posted. This is when he wrote Trench. When he says "this year I'm far from home but in Trench I'm not alone these faces facing me." He's talking about being on tour and knowing we are his fans and love him and he's not alone. He was really worried that most of the success he saw in Blurryface was fake and that when they came back there would be no one. But also know he's true fans would be there for him.

Thank you Tom, you have no idea how much that compliment means to me. I have dyslexia and have to proofread everything so many times and still get things wrong. I can't thank you enough for completely making my day/week.
