Adobe Photoshop added "Generative Fill AI" to their toolbox in early 2023. Have you used it? How far do you think nightscape photographers should go with this tool? Never, discreetly, or as far as the technology will take them?

In today's "Guest Artist" collaboration for my ebook updates, I'm sharing Matthew Costanza's before and after photos of the Wolfe Ranch cabin he took recently in Arches National Park (that's a winter Milky Way over the cabin). As you may know, you're no longer allowed to use "artificial light" in the park after dark, except to find your way or light your campground — so Matt lit up the inside of the cabin with AI.

In a the recent Night Photo Summit, five panelists, including Russell Brown, Adobe’s Senior Principle Designer, discussed “The Good, the Bad and the Future of AI in Night Photography.” They concluded that AI was definitely here to stay and that the public would continue to become more wary of the truthfulness of the photographic image. To help preserve the integrity of each person’s own photography, they suggested that photographers be totally transparent with their use of AI and identify when and where AI was used. This suggestion did not apply to “digital fine art” creators whose work is already presumed to be highly manipulated.

What are your thoughts? (Matt was totally upfront about his use of AI for this image.)
