How Social Media Changes Your Mind

CW: Its gonna be intense, we're not just talking about the Amber Heard/Johnny Depp trial either, we're talking about like fascism and death and stuff too so. Hello! Would you happen to have a written version of this or a bibliography you can send me? I'm putting together research for a paper I'm writing about Depp v. Heard's media coverage, and this is an incredibly informative video, but it would be much easier for me if I had a written version/transcript. I would really really appreciate it if you could send me one, but I understand if not. Thank you!

Verity Ritchie

Our creative process is quite messy. I have a subtitle transcript I could send, but it doesn't include citations (which we put on screen, usually in the upper right hand corner). We don't have a ready-made bibliography because we just include them in the video at the relevant moments.

A subtitle transcript would be perfect. Thank you so much! I’ll dm you

Thank you for doing this, Ada and Vee. 💜

Great video, thank you. So well put together!

Wireless Ratatosk: Reading Ourselves Free

Thank you for doing this. Please take care of yourself. While it wasn't your point to address 'sides' of the trial, it's so disgusting how reasonable folks and views can be slimed by algorithms and escalated emotions.

Simon Patience

Can you please make it public so I can send it to someone?

Ghosts And You Might Die

This was such a great video — precise and balanced writing, vigorously researched, enough levity to give some reprieve from the existential horror of the misogynistic technocratic dystopia that spawned the whole sitch, just, well done. Brava.

Thanks, LaTonya! I will...try....lol. This is a stressful release!

this video absolutely eviscerated me, but in a really important way. my partner and i are planning on having children and more and more i can't stop thinking about their future on the internet. how do i protect them from all this without just entirely cutting them off from the world? we're trying to do our best as future parents to keep ourselves educated and informed so we can help them navigate these spaces. essays like this really helps pierce the numbness and remind me to embrace those convictions again with renewed energy. i think the work you're doing is really important, to this internet stranger at least. thank you very much for being here.

Verity Ritchie

Thank you, TempoRainy! I think about this a lot regarding my young relatives. I think you're right, the best thing we can do is try to make sure they are educated as to how all this works. I think generally people think of their social media profiles as authentic expressions of their selves, but very few recognise that that expression exists as product for a company. I wonder if I had had that perspective when I was younger if I would've approached the internet differently.

It was brilliant how you managed to get to the role of algorithms in swaying oppinions in the trial without having to spend time dissecting the trial itself - it makes the video more accessible even to people who are in the Depp stan bandwagon... with all the quoted sources, I'm saving this video to potentially use as material for my students
