This video is about Israel’s participation in Eurovision 2024 and what we can do about it. But it’s not our new video essay. You can expect the new video essay soon, and it's going to be long and gay and I think a lot of fun. This video isn’t so much fun, but it was important to us to do something within whatever sphere of influence we might have.

As a Ukrainian, my only answer can be - YES, they shouldve never been allowed in!!!!! Just like ruzzia should've been banned way earlier, for example after ruzzians attacked Georgia in 1991, Abkhasia in 1992, Moldova in 1992, Chechnya in 1994 and again in 1999, Dagestan in 1999, Georgia again in 2008, Ukraine in 2014, Syria in 2015. Maybe if international community reacts to the genocidal imperialism differently in our time, these colonizers will think twice before murdering thousands of people.

Mavka

I remember when ruzzia was finally banned I was happy, but my first thought was 'what about Israel??'. Also happy turkey doesn't take part, cause fuck them too. murdering Kurds in perpetuity is ok for them, but what seeing Conchita win was too much💩

Am Israeli. No lies detected. We absolutely don't deserve to be in Eurovision as long as this war/genocide continues.

Ruxandra Grecu

just yesterday Romania announced it's not participating this year, because financial issues (there are always conversations about that in the country). And re: Germany... considering how much they're defending genocide at every level (it really gives me chills), feels like a losing game :(

Thank you for this video, I have contacted my local broadcaster. I hope one day for the genocide against Palestinians to stop

In Sweden Vänsterpartiet and it's leader have taken a stance against Israel participating in Eurovision. It's leader Nooshi Dadgostar was written about in a negative way because of this stance in newspaper editorials. Today I saw a text by a political columnist in Aftonbladet that calls for Israel to be excluded from the ESC. It's the first one of it's kind that I've noted in Swedish media. It would be great if people could signal boost it. https://www.aftonbladet.se/kultur/a/15EbaQ/stoppa-israel-fran-eurovision-song-contest-skriver-eric-rosen I think it would be best if people who are not Swedish nationals write to SVT etc in their own words and being earnest about not being citizens and taxpayers etc. The translation to Swedish that was in the pinned document had many errors in it and swedes are really paranoid about foreign psyops right now. It was obviously not written by someone fluent in Swedish, the gramar was off and there were many misstakes in the wording, as in using words with the wrong meaning. I hope you update the Swedish translation to not sound like written like space alien machine translation which will have them think russian psyop and dissmiss the whole thing. There is a more correct translation in the comments.

I've also discovered this when googling "Israel Eurovision": https://www.timesofisrael.com/luxembourg-taps-israeli-singer-as-eurovision-song-entry/ " Golegrant said she visits Israel at least once a year, sometimes twice. “I love Israel,” she said.//“The song is about being a ‘fighter’ in life. We all deal with things in life; the song is about coping with difficulties,” she explained, saying it spoke to her because of the challenges in developing a music career. “But everyone has his war and so the subject is universal,” she said.//“It’s crazy, everyone is Israeli,” Golegrant said of the production team. As she advanced toward the final round of the selection process, she received a lot of messages of support from Israelis." So even if the country Israel is banned Israel will be represented in the ESC in a way.

Ada: I saw that Romania is not participating, honestly seems like a good choice this year!

Verity Ritchie

Ada: Thank you for the link, what a genuinely well constructed opinion piece! Seeing this and the protest by 1000+ Swedish artists makes me feel like the pressure from within Sweden will just keep mounting so hopefully that gets to SVT/EBU! I've replaced the original translation with a newer one, I hope it's better now. A lot of the original translations got improved by now but I think it's still easier to take an imperfect translation and edit it than to translate everything from scratch. :) Also if you can point me to what you think is the best Swedish translation in the comments I can put that one in the document!

Verity Ritchie

Ada: Yeah, I read about that, honestly Luxembourg shouldn't have bothered returning to Eurovision!

Hey, I don't know if that's the place to ask or if you've mentioned it beforehand - but do you plan on releasing a review of Poor Things? All the Best!

m.stnbssr

Thanks for the quick reply! 😊Oh I hope you'll be able to! I loved (and got to know you through) your review of Barbie. Poor Things led to so many discussions within my friend circle. I'd love to see/hear your take on it! Cheers

I complained to Auntie Beeb yesterday and received a response this morning. There was the expected spiel about the contest being apolitical but they did at least say they would pass on my comments to senior management and that they were included in their overnight report. So hopefully it will be adding to pressure from other BBC viewers/license payers.
