Hey hey Patreon Fam!

We filmed a little update for you all right before we left to travel to Sweden that we finally had time to upload and share with you here!  The journey was successful but exhausting to say the least.  Sierra did amazing, and after several days of flights and battling some major jet lag, we are just starting to get all settled in here :)

In this update we talk about our plans for Sweden, the work that we've been doing in the boat yard, our longer term plans for crossing the pacific, and some other little bits and bobs :)

Sending big hugs and cozy vibes from Gotland 🥰🥰🥰

Video idea.. a meetup with RAN sailing

Bev

What about different Christmas Traditions in Sweden for a little

Sean Martin

Idea for a video while in Gotland: ASMR style video walking through a snowy forest!

Joe Rollinson

I second Bev's idea to show Christmas or holiday traditions in Sweden

Bill

Stockholm was one of my favorite routes when I flew for the airline. Especially the month of December. It got dark at 3pm and the city was totally lighted for Christmas. Very very festive! I also visited a reindeer farm in winter which was very interesting. I think both would be a good short videos for the tribe who have never had a chance to visit Scandinavia. Have a great visit guys!!!

Colleen Balch

It would be wonderful if you filmed a bit about how the holidays are celebrated in Sweden …Sierra’s and maybe Brian’s first chance to be a part of it all. OH look! I’m not alone on this one. :)

Maria Levin

Hej.

Anne West

im down for a Swedish Holidays vid too! I hope you all have a great, relaxing time and Sierra gets to enjoy time with Mormor.

David Hagler

I would be interested in a little insight into how you plan out for a trip across the south Pacific. Kazza mentioned the planning and some of the ordering etc. for the upcoming trip. As a sailing nerd, I would be interested in hearing how you go about planning for such a long passage. Overall: I would rather you get to enjoy your time in Sweden and catch us up when you have had a bit of a rest. Safe travels and have a wonderful holiday season.

Peggy Pot

I join my voice with those asking for a peek at Swedish holiday traditions, and I also wonder if there is any ice sailing like I have seen in the Netherlands.

William Flower

Definitely hope you caught a video of Sierra's reaction to snow... and reindeer! Mad love for you all... :) :) :)

Hi Brian: two questions for you. First off, I notice that everyone who can’t afford a gyro-based stability system complains about bad rocking anchorages, for obvious reasons. I was wondering if you’d ever tried building a DIY stabilizer that I read about years ago. As I recall, it was two outrigger poles on each side of the hull, with something like a milk crate with a hinged bottom at the end of each. The concept was supposed to be that the boat rocked, the hinged bottom popped in, filling one side with water, and damping out the sway back. As the water drains out, it’ll sway to the other side, and the process starts again. As I recall, it was one of the old-timer circumnavigators that described the setup, and he said that it worked well. I’m marina-based, so I never bothered to try it, but your life often seems so miserable that it might be worth a try.

Question #2: I remember recommending S.M. Sterling’s “Island in the Sea of Time” series to you a year or two back. It’s where the island of Nantucket and the Coast Guard sailing vessel Eagle are thrown back to the Bronze Age. It’s the series that made me want to buy a sailboat. Great sailing yarns, adventures, and well-researched history. I was listening to it as an audiobook for the hundredth time the other day and wondered if you ever got around to reading it? Cheers, Lance and family. S/V Great Escape. Oakville, Ontario, Canada

Have a great family-time in Gotland, guys! Enjoy the cold winter days. I love to see Sierra playing in the snow, that must be a wonderfull time for you all. Cheers!

David

Have a great time! (Brian are you going to try the Surstromming? again.)

Art Deene

It would be so cool if you could do a video with Lisa. I get to see her work all the time but never get to see her. Just a thought. Safe travels. Cheers.

Bill Dapp

How about filming how Christmas is different in Sweden vs North America? Safe travels and enjoy Sweden. Nugget sibling in the making? ;-)

Lisa & Claude

Sailing Ran is there in Sweden building their dream boat you guys should perhaps meet up would be also cool to see the two little girls together Also would be so cool to see Lisa again safe travels

Telly

Maybe some traditional Swedish snow activities? I have no idea if these are but: Outdoor fika? polar plunge? dog sledding? hunting for Northern Lights? Anything! Goes along with the theme of do-the-opposite from what's typical on Delos. :)

Sammy the Ditch Doctor

Can we put in some South Pacific island requests? Two I’d really like to see that were on my sailing bucket list before my life circumstances changed were Johnston Atoll and Palmyra Atoll. Videos with a little bit of the history of both of those would be super cool…

Scott C. Wise

It may not get cold enough, but I would love to see you guys do some ice (sail) boating! I wonder if there is a small/medium lake near by Gotland where people do that? I did it once with my older brother (who had his own ice boat) and it was thrilling!

Distant Shores TV

Wishing you guys safe travels and a wonderful time with family in Sweden 🇸🇪. It was so great catching up with you at the Annapolis boat show! ❤️

Daniel James

I say put the cameras down and do what you want. Enjoy your visit, enjoy your holiday :)

Scurvy Dan

have a great holiday..cant wait for you to get back already..also super excited to see how the forward facing sonar works. was thinking of it myself. have a safe trip

Steve Borst

I hope the time in Gotland is both relaxing and restoring. dont miss the daily sauna (a 180 from boat life) and if you run across a proper swedish christmas market, give us a peek. Looking forward to January!!

Scott Leak

Sweden over the holidays should be great; I lived in Norway for a few years and I actually liked the winters for the most part.

Dusty Ritz

don't they have great Choclate in Sweden? they definitely make fabuless BLONDS HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!

Andrew Lee... lost, at sea!

Safe travels. the PV circumnavigation party video was awesome. Sierra is getting so big. Hope you have a great trip. Stay Salty.

Michael Williams

There appears to be many historical sites on the east shores of Gotland - including Karlsvärd Fortress. Do you think you will explore the island a little?

Jim Bickerstaff

A tour of Stockholm would be sweet. Also there is a castle on the west coast, maybe near Kungsbacka? I have friends in Malmo and Varberg but have not been back in some years. I loved my time in Sweden and want to return someday.

Lowell McCormick

Visit sailing channel Ran and Sierra can have a play date with their young daughter Vera.

I would love to see this too if it is a possibility. Especially as both your families are involved with the plastic recycling project in-mocean.org

Lance Daniels

Dittto to Lowell McCormick's comment. Plus I look forward to seeing and hearing Lisa. Maybe she can join you for some of the Pacific part of your trip next year.

Most of those things is on the nothern side of sweden. So sadly one 3 hour boat trip and about 14 hours car ride from where they are. But who knows what adventures they are willing to do for us ;D

There are A LOT in fact you can walk many places in the forest and come across viking burial mounds. The entire island is pretty cool and the city of Visby is fantastic to explore. It will be wintertime so probably won't venture too far but during the summer we certainly do alot.
