Happy New Year Fam!  We're back after our little break with another episode from our adventures in the Sea of Cortez...or should we say misadventures.  We pull up to another picture perfect anchorage surrounded by gorgeous clear water, perfect beaches, cactus dotted hillsides and mountains...it wasn't until the sun began to set that we realized there was a secret lurking, waiting to terrorize us.  It's so wild how something so tiny can absolutely destroy such an otherwise perfect paradise.

And we have some other exciting news for you too.  We actually scheduled this release because when you get this message we will be somewhere between Sweden and Mexico!  We're headed back to Delos feeling recharged and ready to face a HUGE new year.  We've still got quite a few jobs to finish (Delos will still be hauled out for a bit once we return) and then we've got about 600 miles to cover to make it down to the southernmost check out point in the Baja Peninsula where we will wave goodbye to North America and begin the 3-ish week sail across the Pacific.

Anyone else have some big plans/goals/dreams for 2023?  Lets hear 'em in the comments!

Big Hugs from the Sky!

Brian, Kazza, & Sierra

If you guys ever get stung by bees again make a paste with baking soda and water and apply it to the sting. Let it dry and it will neutralize the pain and inflammation. I had a lot of experience with this when I was a kid. =D

Pedro Ferreira

Vinegar is very good against bee stings :-D

Brian Travis

I really hope you are felling better Kazza !

Shaniko Jack

Vinegar, alcohol, uric acid anything to stop the itch. I was diving off Isla Coiba, Panama, in a soup of jelly fish. We all suffered stinging. I was worst off because I was not fully covered in a wet suit. It took 3 days for itching to subside. One of divers, a doctor, said, too late, that he should have documented my condition.

I'm looking forward to watching! Some of my 2023 goals - 1) Line up my first offshore sailing passage, to build experience. I might have a lead on this already in the South Pacific! 2) Find my Delos 3) Put some miles under it and gain more experience!

OUCH Bugs suck!! Happy New Year!

Mickey Finn

After watching that crazy video about the bugs, I noticed one of the above comments about treatment was uric acid...aka PEE. It reminded me of a outrageous funny video from Friends when Monica got a jelly fish sting at the beach . Im attaching a 2 minute clip, guaranteed to make you laugh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpFqyWChCYw

Well, well did someone say, It's SV Delos Friday? Loved the spot, but didn't like the bugs. I also enjoyed the very brief time lapse of the night sky. I wish it could have run a little longer.

Klas Andersson

So now we know why it®s called "bug out" 😉 Small question, mostly to Karin who is from a place known for its mosquitos: Were these worse than svia eller knott? Take care folks, allways a pleasure seing you, even thou the buggs were an unpleasant part of it!

Bill Dapp

Please make sure you are safe in Mexico. With the cartel issues going on there I hope it's no where near where Delos is situated at this moment.

William Gross

Back when I spent more time in Florida, we used Avon "Skin so Soft". I don't know if it's even still available

It is Friday night here in Fairbanks, Alaska. We head to Grenada on the red eye tomorrow night. Thanks be to you Brian for re-igniting my want to be a nomad sailor! This has been a dream since high school. A dream I thought that would never be attainable. You proved me wrong. So, here we go to do the sea trials and the haul out! And thanks to your incredible brother and Alex via The Cruisers Academy, we are that much more ready! Tahoe was unbelievable! You’re responsible for so much joy and adventurizing! Here we come! Hopefully see you out there. Fair winds and love ya like family!! Morgan and Darren and soon to be SV Raven!!

Patricia

Nugs' "WOOHOO!" at the end is my favorite thing. Never gets old ♄

Scurvy Dan

Great episode. Happy New year!

Shelly Ackerman

Some of the yuckier side of sailing - bugs it’s hard to escape from and no quick doctor option! I am betting Kazza is back to good health by now though?! Love to you all!

Rick Mann

Looking forward to the haul-out videos! And to your visit to the LA area ;)

Happy New Year Delos crew!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Brian, this video is older so kazza has since made a full recovery! Although while we were in Sweden and Sierra started going to day care and bringing home lots of new bugs she had more than her fair share of colds and even got covid again. But we're all happy and healthy now and back in Mexico!

Sailing SV Delos

Yeah that makes sense, we've definitely heard of vinegar for jelly stings but didn't think about that for bee stings. How AMAZING is Coiba though?!?! We loved it there so much!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Ashley, we made it back to Delos safe and sound and no major disasters on board that we've noticed yet 😅

Sailing SV Delos

WOW you guys! That is such amazing news, we are so freaking stoked for you!!! And that's so cool you did some training with Senor Brady! The lake looks like such a cool place to sail, their pictures from there are insane! We definitely have to make it out for a visit :) Hugest congratulations and big hugs to you, we are so proud of all you amazing Delos Tribers out there making dreams come true!

Sailing SV Delos

Yes Shelly, Kazza made a full recovery, although since being in Sweden she got plenty of winter bugs and even got covid again...but we are all healthy and happy and just arrived back to Mexico so all is well for us here!

Hej Klas!

Andrew Lee... lost, at sea!

No see ums! Worst thing ever. Binge watched the last few months episodes. Been working towards launching. Always inspired and grateful of your sharing. Hoping the Delos family has a awesome year. Thank you! Stay Salty!
