Hey Hey Fam!  We're super excited to share this episode with you from one of the most beautiful and wild destinations we've ever encountered.  This little slice of paradise is called Refugio (which means refuge in English) and we can definitely see why.  It felt like we were anchored in the middle of the most scenic and picturesque swimming pool in the universe.  With rolling green hills, cactus dotted hillsides, and perfect white sand beaches, refugio was pretty easy on the eyes, but what blew us away the most was actually it's inhabitants- the California Sea Lion!  Unlike our last encounter which was during the mating season, we were now in the prime season to enjoy a dip with these playful little fellas, and we busted out the dive gear and spent an unforgettable 40 minutes frolicking with these curious, social, intelligent, and beautiful creatures.  We've definitely been blessed over the years with some incredible underwater encounters, but something about the level of connection and interest that the Sea Lions had in us made this so special.

By the way, if you missed our real time update from a few days ago, check it out now!  We announce the topic for our next Q&A video which will be all about planning and preparing for an ocean passage, so make sure and let us know if you have any questions if you haven't already.  Here is the link to that post if you didn't see it yet: https://www.patreon.com/posts/79037735

We hope everyone has a great weekend!

Big hugs from all of us,

Brian, Kazza & Sierra <3

Mexico’s most WILD and REMOTE Island? (We're Falling in Love Here) Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 403

It's been a while since we posted a video like this...No disasters, no storms, no hospital, just pure cruising bliss. We had forgotten what it was like to feel at ease, and man did we need this! And for all you Sierra fans out there, brace yourselves for some cuteness overload in this one 🥰 After all the chaos and stress of running from Hurricane Kay, the dust had finally settled and the seas had calmed, so we pull the anchor and set sail for Puerto Don Juan which is actually the anchorage we diverted away from at the last minute when we decided to opt for riding out the hurricane in San Carlos. We arrive to have our minds completely blown at the beauty and stillness of this sheltered paradise. It was such a relief to feel safe, secure, and relaxed, and we able to slip right back into the cruiser life with a bon fire on the beach, some wild coyote encounters, and of course no return to normalcy would be complete without at least one system failure onboard 😂 Watch our 4 part docu-series: https://80northseries.com Protect yourself from the sun! https://svdelos.com/rashguards Support Our Videos- Send Us Love http://svdelos.com/beer http://patreon.com/svdelos We're completing our sail around the world, so there's plenty more to see! Wow! What a blast watching you interact with those beautiful creatures, oh, and that little bye by Sierra at the end, so cute! I was wondering how far back in time we are from when you are now? Fair winds!

Awesome drone shots and perfect tracking of the graceful sea lions!

FreeWilly

Very cool, those sea lions are like dogs of the water, it was making me a little nervous though, I noticed Kazaa keeping her fingers in close when they came by...I think I would do the same.

Bonne Mike

Those Sea Lion teeth ....... look like they mean business. Sort of Wolf/jackal high-bred. They seam intelligent to interact with you .... or are they all just divas ....... looking for YouTube exposure. It is one of the great mysteries in life ...... like does the light in the Norge REALLY go off when we close the door? We don't know ... we EAT the only witnesses. Keep 'em flyin.

CATHERINE HACKETT

I love all your videos but your diving shots are always fabulous. What fun it must have been to swim with those guys! I loved your narration of that dive, too!

Sailing SV Delos

I know how precious was that 🥰 This video was from October right before we hauled out so a few months behind. But we will only show a little bit from our time in Sweden so then the videos will catch up really fast to within about a month or two of real time :)

Sailing SV Delos

Yeah they were super fun and playful but after seeing that skull on the beach and seeing those teeth we were definitely still a little cautious!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Catherine! We love it so much when we get the chance to dive these days, some of our favorite videos to put together. Will be lots of amazing underwater footage once we get back to French Polynesia, the reefs are so insane there!

Kurt Wengart

Wow!! Amazing underwater videography. And wonderfully narrated by Brian. Editor also get props, of this episode, for remarkably telling such a beautiful story and experience. This was a delightful episode!!! So happy for you guys. Thrilling memories.

Ahoy Delos! Hey I created some coloring books for wee ones (I have a new step granddaughter and wanted to create something fun to color while also teaching about animals.) I would love to send a package of them (4 in total) to beautiful little Sierra. Do you have a forwarding address I can send to? We love you guys and wait (im)patiently for the episodes. We plan to sail away for good from the San Juan Islands in 2024 so maybe we'll run into you (not literally!) somewhere in the world. Much love, Denise and Russell

Living the dream, doing some of the bright work on our new Sailboat. Looks like y'all are setting up for a pacific crossing? If so is Calico coming along for the ride? Much love from Port Canaveral.

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Kurt, definitely one of our favorite dive videos in a long time! So glad you enjoyed it, and thank you we will pass along the kudos to Jordan she was the chief mouse clicker on this one :)

Sailing SV Delos

Hey Brian, yes we are getting close! If all goes according to plan, we will set off at the end of the month. Calico are going to wait another year to cross, and One Life might cross if they can get ready in time...they've discovered some issues when they hauled out that need to be fixed before they can go, so it's still up in the air if they will be ready. Hope the boat work is going well for ya!

Hillary Horn

That was a wonderful video- such an enchanted wild place with friendly sea lions. How fun!
