Hey Tribe good news!  We are now officially complete with the  design of Delos 2.0!  It's been quite a few intensive weeks....  They always say the last 10% of any project is really 90% of the work.  And I couldn't agree more!  But we now have a 3D model that incorporates the entire structure.   And there is well over 1,000 pieces to this amazing sailing machine!

If you are familiar with what it takes to create a render based on a .3dm format, and would like to help us bring the 3D model to life please drop a comment below!  Sending lot's of love and good vibes- Brian, Karin, and Sierra

Awesome! I’ll check with my engineers and ask!

Richard S Florence

Send it I can see what Inventor can do with it. How big is the file

Christopher Morse

I can read 3dm into SolidWorks and manipulate / render it from there.

Juan David

3dm is native to Rhino. I can use it to open the model and from there export into other formats to create renders in other more specialized softwares. I have a couple in mind. Message me, should be fun 😁

I like how the rudders are protected like that. And it looks like you have 2 main bulkheads, and the keel is solidly attached. Looks nice.

It appears that you have some good info. I checked with ChatGPT and got this answer:

Rendering a 3D model file, such as a `.3dm` (Rhino 3D Model) file, typically requires specific 3D modeling software that can open and process the file. Here are some ways you can render a `.3dm` file: ### 1. Rhino 3D - **Rhino 3D itself** is the primary software for `.3dm` files. It has built-in rendering capabilities and also supports various rendering plugins for more advanced visualization options, such as V-Ray, Maxwell, and more. ### 2. Other 3D Modeling Software - Some other 3D modeling applications can import `.3dm` files and have rendering capabilities. You might need to check each software's compatibility with `.3dm` files. Examples include KeyShot (with a plugin), and sometimes Autodesk 3ds Max or Maya through data conversion or plugins. ### 3. Conversion Tools - **Convert the `.3dm` file to another format** that can be opened by more common rendering software if you don't have access to Rhino 3D. There are several online converters or software tools that can convert `.3dm` files to formats like `.obj`, `.stl`, or `.fbx`, which are widely supported by various 3D rendering and modeling software. ### 4. Online Rendering Services - There are also **online platforms** that offer 3D rendering services. Some might support `.3dm` files directly or you might have to convert your file to a supported format first. These services can render your model without requiring you to have powerful software or hardware. ### Steps to Render Using Rhino 3D: If you are using Rhino 3D for rendering, here are basic steps you can follow: 1. **Open Rhino 3D** and load your `.3dm` file. 2. Set up your scene, including camera angles, lighting, and materials for your model. Rhino has a materials library and the ability to edit lighting settings. 3. Choose the render button or go to the render menu to select your render settings. Here, you can choose the resolution, render quality, and other options depending on your needs. 4. Initiate the render process. Once it’s complete, you can save the rendered image. For specific rendering techniques, adjustments, or using plugins like V-Ray in Rhino, it's advisable to consult the respective manuals or online tutorials for detailed guidance, as rendering can get quite complex depending on the desired quality and realism.

Brian, I'd be happy to help with this. Got quite a lot of 3D CAD work experience.

Way to go Delos Tribe! What a team.

There are Blendr plugins that will import .3dm files. It would be fun to give it a try.

Here to give a cheer!!

Cool the Deck by Painting the stripes white instead of black! Plus it looks great. Cheers!
