Sometimes Jean feels his life doesn’t truly belong to him.

There are nights when stillness hurts, and others when the wild pulse drags him without permission. He doesn’t know if his condition is a wound or a refuge; only that he no longer remembers what it was like to live without it.

When the world falls silent, he hears his breath blending with the beast’s. They don’t hate each other, yet they don’t understand either.

And in that quiet truce, Jean realizes that curse and blessing might be the same:

what awakens within us is never wholly dark, nor completely light.

I keep thinking about those theories of analytical psychology by Carl Jung. Recognizing our shadow, accepting it, and so on, to form a more harmonious whole of our spirit, not trying to repress it and letting it get out of control when it can no longer be repressed.

Blessing without a doubt. If it’s a curse I hope it’s contagious.
