As usual, this is a work in progress. If you don't want to spoil anything before the comic is done, DO NOT READ THIS POST. However if you want to read this post after the comic is posted, you're more than welcome to look at my thought process and changes.

Update 2/25:

Finished Panel 1 and 2!!

This is a collab I'm doing with the wonderful Sarah Navin (you may know her better as coinswallow). I'm really excited because she brought up a really good concept that I want to explore further in the future.

This comic in general is going to be pretty simple. There's not too much depth in it in terms of figuring out what happened. I wanted to give the readers a break from all the more clue searching intensity that the comics usually have.

I wanted to ease readers who are first timers from Sarah's following so they don't get overwhelmed or just simply think, "I don't get it".

I sometimes try to be aware of how I use negative space and lines to manipulate how the reader's eyes move. Using something like the large tree on the left becomes the new frame for the panel. This is because it's large, imposing, and all the lines are vertical, drawing your eyes downward. The eyes go to the hunter, and follows the line of sight of the gun to the elk. If I can guess how the reader will read the page, I can optimize how to hide things.

Update 2/26:

Finished Panel 3!

I hope having three panels the same scene will build up tension for the final reveal on panel 4. I don't know if it'll be effective or just boring. I have some ideas of building tension for one single moment, but usually opt out because I only have 4 panels to do it.

Update 2/27:

Finished Panel 4

Tadaaaa big reveal! It's a dead elk!

Sometimes the real horror is in the final inking of details.
