Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day, and it's a follow-up to a story I told you about 3 years ago, that only NOW everyone else is jumping on. A look at the entire saga of Afroman getting sued by the police after THEY screwed up, from the original raid to the final verdict. Enjoy!

Buckley takes you through the entire Afroman Saga! 3 years ago, the "Because I Got High" singer had his home raided by the police, and when they found nothing (literally nothing... they found NOTHING at the "weed is my entire lifestyle" guy's house), he made some songs making fun of them... so the cops sued him! 3 years later, Afroman had his day in court. A look at the whole thing from beginning to end, from the mysterious "kidnapping" allegations, "Lemon Pound Cake", and the precedent this might set when it comes to your right to mock public figures!

Their informant was Fuzzy Dunlop! For those who've watched the wire

It’s rare to see cops eat a slice of humble pie let alone after ransacking a guy called Afromam!

Ron

Im from Ohio, weed is legal here since 2023. Afroman won cause it is right and he needs money to fix his house.

Ash Archer

Is it funny? Yeah. Is it sad it went this far? Yeah. My god, the Courts waste valuable time and tax dollars on the most flippant, petty bullshit.

A Dose of Buckley

Yeah, the part where I said weed wasn't legal, that was from the "3 years ago" video, which was recorded in very early 2023 (the bill to legalize marijuana passed in November 2023, before that it had been decriminalized for small amounts)

Ron

My bad missed that part. Well as an Ohioan I apologize for those cops. And the cop did eye that cake lol.

Ron

Yep as an Ohioan my tax dollars went to a case that should have been settled out of court

I saw somewhere that it was a former assistant who claimed that Afroman had a sex dungeon in his basement in which he imprisoned and tortured people. Worth noting that Afro’s house doesn’t have a basement. A call to the city planners office could have clued the cops in on that.

A Dose of Buckley

Oh so even better, a classic PizzaGate thing, "they're trafficking kids in the basement!" "Umm... we don't have a basement". Or, for the older crowd, a great Pee Wee's Big Adventure reference to be made there, Pee Wee wanting to see the basement of the Alamo.

Pretty much. Law & Chaos Podcast did a pretty good breakdown of the case. Afroman did a good job of pointing out that the police were the ones who caused all of this - they broke down his door, they stole his money, they didn’t apologize or pay for repairs. So he made music about it to make money to pay for the damages. Another fun point : one of the cops claimed the songs let to his divorce and that he was humiliated by Afro saying he (Afro) had sex with the cops wife They put the ex wife on the stand and she said 1) he thought it was funny at the time 2) the song has nothing to do with their divorce and 3) she’s a school teacher and yes, kids teased her about the song but this was because they were kids and it’s what kids do. If the song hadn’t existed, they’d have teased her about something else.

Also - if you get the chance to hear the closing from Afros lawyer, it’s pretty great. He talks a lot about artists exaggerating- noting that, for example, nobody thinks the boasts in WAP are real nor would they hear Lil Wayne’s Pussy Monster and think he was talking about a literal monster. Court is funny.

me and my dad are making lemon pound cake in celebration

No one had heard of Afroman in decades, and now he's probably more famous and recognizable than ever thanks to a bunch of dip shit cops who got their little feelings hurt. It would have been better had they shut up. Now it will follow them for a lifetime. 😎

A Dose of Buckley

Yeah for sure... the last time I had even thought of him before this, back when I was PA Announcing for the baseball team I worked for, and one of the other teams in the league had a guy with the last name "Stoner", so we would play "Because I Got High" as his walk-up music as a joke. That was over 10 years ago now, and the reference was barely useable then!

Benjamin

God bless America indeed. Now this is going to be part of the “what radicalized you” meme

Cops once wanted to see what I have in my basement because they had some ongoing investigation in the building. Turned out there was nothing to see, lock was broken, someone stole pretty much everything I had there aside some old paint. They asked me what I didn't report it to the police and I told them the last time I was in the basement was 4 years ago so there could be homeless people living in there and I wouldn't know. They wanted to add me to some suspect list but turns out there is no law that orders you to check on your basement every now and then.

Niki MG

I saw that footage of the cop looking at the pound cake. 😂
