The danger doesn’t always come from anger and hate. It can just as much be the product of adoration and jealousy.

The feather hunters did in fact threaten the peaceful existence of the innocent winged creatures, but they were not the only ones. Guileful, power-hungry tribal priests were obsessed with feathered beings and saw them as the highest form of human development.

Those were not, however, the praying and worshiping type of priests. They were more of an “if I like something of yours, I’ll make it mine” type. They hunted and captured the poor creatures, locked them in cages, and performed dangerous rituals in hope of exposing the source of their power. Was it magic or nature? Were they born like this or are they former humans? They stopped at nothing to achieve their goals. Starvation, torture, and violent demonstrations were not beneath their dignity. The questions, however, remained unanswered.

Will the birds they put in cages ever ride upon the wind? Will they ever be free and dare to claim the sky?
