Grammar Nerd cartoons (Patreon)

Here are some cartoons I've done about grammar, punctuation, and writing. The Grammar Man comic is one of my favorites because it's an homage to my father, Phil Metzger. He is the Grammar Man in the cartoon. He passed in 2003 and I'm guessing he wouldn't be pleased that it's become acceptable for the word "literally" to mean figuratively. Or maybe he wouldn't care. He would often say that language is always evolving.
A lot of people have said that the "Grammer Hell" comic doesn't contain any grammar mistakes. It does contain one, but I agree that the rest are simply spelling/punctuation errors. In my original sketch, the sign read "English Major Hell." I probably should've stuck with that, but I like the misspelling of "grammar" because it makes so many people (including me) cringe.
The Pete the Pencil comic is from 2012. It made the rounds online -- a lot of writing-related Facebook pages shared it -- and one day I saw that Grammarly was running an advertisement that was an obvious ripoff of my cartoon. I sent them a message saying, essentially, "That's not cool." They apologized and removed the ad.
Even though I'm a bit of a grammar nerd, I would never correct someone's grammar. I do correct my kids, but that's different (and it also means I've turned into my dad). My six-year-old son is tired of me saying things like, "You mean, 'Michael and I played on the monkey bars.'" I don't care - I'm going to drill that into him.
I want my kids to talk good.
