Foul-Language Friday Flashback (Patreon)
Content
This is a cartoon I did in 2009, which was loosely based on real events. I'll get to that in a second.
Years ago, I would sometimes use swear words in my cartoons. These days, I think they're unnecessary most of the time. I'm not against the use of curse words in comics. There are cartoonists who pepper their comics with curse words and it's funny. Fowl Language Comics is a good example. If you are a parent, I highly recommend it.
I got the idea for this cartoon after picking up my daughter at daycare. Almost every time I picked her up, these two boys would be arguing or yelling at each other. They'd really get into it. Meanwhile my daughter would be off to the side, looking a bit concerned and trying to mind her own business. The boys didn't swear at each other (they were only three) but I'm sure they would have, had they known the words.
In my opinion, this cartoon wouldn't work with toned-down language, like: It's my damn truck, jerk! It has to have swear words to make it funny. When I posted this comic on GoComics, I had to use symbols ($%@&) in place of the curse words. Even that didn't work very well.
Of course, there are people who won't think this cartoon is funny at all, just because of the bad language. I understand and respect that.
If you do like this comic and would like to send it to a friend, it's available as a greeting card here.
Have a great Friday and enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!
