Last night my family and I were hanging out in the living room and there was a big spider crawling on the wall near us. I was going to capture it in a glass and release it outside. I've done this a bunch of times without incident, but this time things went horribly wrong and I crushed the spider. My kids were appalled that I killed "Larry Jr." and my wife Katrina later put up this "crime scene."

Katrina is a good artist and she's dabbled in greeting cards in the past. I've included a few of her drawings. They're old, but they're my favorites. These days most of her drawing happens in the classroom, illustrating concepts for her 5th grade students.

But that spider police sketch is too accurate. I think I'm gonna get busted for this crime.

oh no! I too, have had spider rescue go terribly wrong. I don't want them in the shower with me or anything, but I can't say no to free organic pest control. Love that your wife roasts you though in sweet good humor :)

I love spiders! I used to have a pet tarantula, who turned out to be a pretty boring pet, but I took good care of him until he died of old age. Anyway, I have a special "bug vacuum" that gently pulls the spider into a transparent tube and then I can take it outside and shake it loose.

Cute drawings. I take it there was a previous spider they dubbed Larry.

I would contribute to your bail fund should you be arrested for this crime. I'm okay with spiders outside but not inside.

Yeah, the first Larry makes appearances in my daughter’s room. As long as he’s not on her bed she doesn’t mind him. When I first saw him, I said to her, “There’s a big spider near your window.” She said “Oh, that’s Larry.” It cracked me up that she was so nonchalant about it

Scott Metzger

I hear you. I generally capture and release the spiders that are just chilling out on a wall. The little scurrying ones meet a different fate

Larry can stay in his outside space as far as I’m concerned. That being said, our cat, Sammy, actively hunts spiders and other creepy crawlers in our basement. Not fair, so much art talent in one family. I’m sure your wife’s students benefit from her expertise!

Your wife’s drawings are so good! Love the spider crime scene… hate to say, I’ve never caught any in a glass and released them..😳 I “allowed” one to live once when I had my babies in the tub…dang thing scurried down from ceiling, landed on my daughter’s face, and bit her! 😠 not a fan, although I know they are helpful…🙃

Scott Metzger

Good for Sammy! Neither of my cats is a spider hunter. Not interested at all.

Scott Metzger

Whoa, that’s not good. That spider deserved to be crushed.

This is hilarious. :-D. Our son has an amazing cat named Emma who actively hunts flies. 🪰 We live in an area where flies can be problematic during late summer, so her jumping and catching skills are amazing! FYI she is an indoor cat, so no birds are harmed by her amazing athleticism .

Scott Metzger

Emma sounds awesome! I used to have a cat who loved to eat flies ("sky raisins").

Love it. I could share so many farm Cat stories!
